Bridgeport, NJ – The Bridgeport Motorsports Park offered a full slate of racing on Saturday as the Second Annual Street Stock Nationals highlighted the five division program.
Lernerville Track Champion, Tyler Dietz raced to the victory in the $10,000 to win one hundred lap Street Stock Nationals. Dave Brown raced to the win in the fifty lap F&W Grafix Fall Classic in memory of Bob Schweibinz for the Delaware Auto Exchange Mid Atlantic Sprint Series (MASS). Frank Cozze picked up the win in the Underdog 30 sponsored by Fire Management Control of PA and Rent Equip of Delaware. Joe Garey Jr. made it a clean sweep in the John Blewett Inc. Scrap & Waste Recycling Four Cylinder feature event. The Vintage cars were also on hand as part of the Saturday program.
Two Last Chance Qualifiers were run to complete the starting line up for the Street Stock Nationals. Billy Walker traveled all the way from Alabama to compete in the Street Stock Nationals and was the winner of the first Last Chance Qualifier. Bridgeport regular, Drew Brocklebank picked up the win in the second Last Chance Qualifier.
Chris Murray of the Devil Bowl Speedway in Vermont led the field to the green flag from his pole position start and led the early laps of the race. Murray was also the reason for the first caution after making contact with the wall, sidelining Murray from the event. Tyler Dietz took over at that point with Kyle Daneen racing in second. Jasen Gessaman, a Hagerstown, MD regular, made his way through the top five and took over second on a lap twenty-one restart. Gessaman pursued Dietz, lap after lap. The leader couldn’t afford to make any mistakes because Gessaman was right there to take advantage of any opportunity. Gessaman had a lot of experience in this situation after he pressured Jimmy Blewett throughout the 100 lapper a year ago.
Dietz led the way through halfway followed by Gessaman, John Carpenter, Shane Wolf and Daneen. The caution was thrown at halfway as the cars filed onto the quarter mile track to the attention of the crews. The ten minute clock ran during the break with the field returning to a double file restart at the end of ten minutes.
Dietz went back to work with Gessaman hot on his trail but Wolf came to life and made it a three car race. Carpenter and Jimmy Blewett completed the top five with Ryan Smith looking for his opportunity to get into the top five.
With forty laps to go, Blewett headed to the attention of the Ormsbee crew for tires with left side flats. Blewett’s race came to an end with about twenty laps remaining when the drive shaft went on the No. 19.
Gessaman raced side by side with Dietz on a lap seventy-seven restart and came away with the lead. Gessaman led the way until Dietz was able to regain the spot on a lap eighty restart.
As the laps counted down, several competitors were getting stronger. Ryan Smith raced in the top five while Josh Bassino had his hands full with defending Bridgeport Champion, Tom Wills, Jr. as they battled for sixth. Daneen slowed with mechanical ills on lap ninety-four with Wolf’s mount going up in smoke just moments later. Both drivers were racing within the top five with ten laps remaining.
Dietz raced to the $10,000 payday followed by Gessaman and Smith, both finished in these same positions a year ago. Bussino won the drag race with Wills for fourth while Wills completed the top five. Wills was the first of the Bridgeport competitors to cross the finish line. Three generations of Spider Ensingers competed over the weekend but it was Spider Jr. who finished sixth followed by 2022 Bridgeport Track Champion, Lee Allen, Bailey Tolson, Rich Stinson who qualified through a Last Change Qualifier. Andrew Fitzgerald finished tenth. The top ten completed all one hundred laps.
Dietz was already a fan of longer distance races and of the High Banks of the Bridgeport Motorsports Park. “This track is incredible,” the race winner exclaimed. “This is a one in a life time race.”
Dave Brown picked up the win in the fifty lap F&W Graphix Fall Classic honoring the late Bob Schweibinz. Schweibinz was the grandfather of 2022 MASS Champion, Buddy Schweibinz, It was Bob Schweibinz who introduced his family to racing. When Bob passed away before the start of the season, the driver and crew dedicated this season which included a feature win, the MASS Championship as well as the Tanner Brothers Dairy Store Bridgeport Championship.
Polesitter, Aidan Borden led the first lap but it was all Dave Brown from lap two on as Brown raced ahead of the field and through lapped traffic to capture the fifty lap victory. Brown led the way over Borden, CJ Faison, Tim Iulg and Schweibinz through the first five laps. The running order remained unchanged through the open red with fourteen laps scored. The cars remained on the track with a crew member adding fuel or making wing or shock adjustments. After the three minute break, the field lined up for the double file restart on lap fifteen.
Iulg had a good restart as he moved up to second behind Brown. Borden, Faison and 2022 MASS Rookie of the Year, DJ Tanner completed the top five through the halfway mark. Schweibinz battled with Tanner to climb back into the top five by lap thirty. Josh Bricker was the next driver to break into the top five, dropping Tanner to sixth with twenty laps to go.
Brown caught the back of the field on lap thirty seven but the Aston, PA driver had little trouble making his way through lapped traffic.
With just three laps to go, Dirk Rimrott had his No. 56 go up in smoke and drop moisture around the track. One lap later, Darren Cox ran into trouble going into turn one. Cox relinquished his top ten finish as he was towed back to the pits.
Brown led the field to the checkered followed by Iulg, Schweibinz, Bricker and Tanner. Mark Bitner finished sixth followed by Jeff Paulson, Phil Meisner, Jr. , Dan Leaper and Shelby Kelly.
The fifty lap event created a lot of interest for future races.
Brown credited his dad with the success of this season as well as the Bitner power under the hood of the No. 44.
Iulg finished ahead of Schweibinz in the final race of the season but it wasn’t enough to overcome the ten point deficit. Schweibinz collected the Tanner Brother Dairy Store Bridgeport Championship for 2022.
Frank Cozze raced to the win in the Underdog 30 sponsored by Fire Management Control of PA and Rent Equip of Delaware. It was Cozze’s first win on the High Banks and actually coincided with his big win in Syracuse on this same weekend some years ago.
JR Fulper celebrated his birthday by leading the starting line-up to the green flag. Fulper led the first five laps but it was Cozze who was out in front on lap six. HJ Bunting moved the Blue Hen Racing No. 30 into second on lap eight. Bunting was the fast timer in the timed warm-ups and was able to give Cozze a challenge on the restarts but Cozze was able to pull away when the race returned to green flag racing.
Cozze drove to the checkered for the win followed by Bunting, Richie Pratt, Jr., Rich Rutski and Roger Manning. Cozze was pleased with the wide, smooth track. “I finally get to win something,” Cozze stated, crediting his crew for all of their hardwork throughout the season. Cozze was joined in Victory Lane by his family, including several grandchildren who had the thrill of seeing him win a race.
It was the first Bridgeport start of the season for Rutski and David Hunt. Sammy Martz, Jr. used the event to shake down a new No. 24 Modified.
Joe Garey, Jr. made it a clean sweep in the John Blewett Inc. Scrap & Waste Recyling Four Cylinder feature event. Ken Johnson was the early race leader, falling to the challenge of Eric Deggler. Deggler led until just before halfway when Garey, Jr. took the lead.
Garey, Jr. picked up his second win of the weekend over Rich Page, Tim Jones, Shane Flaherty and Eric Deggler.

SWEDESBORO, NJ – With minimal open dates available on both the Bridgeport Schedule and North East Modified’s Schedule, Bridgeport felt it would be best to stick to a date they already have in place. “We didn’t want to schedule this date and conflict with another scheduled Modified race. We originally considered Saturday November 5th so we had the opportunity for a Sunday rain date, but we have 3 competitors planning on going to Charlotte. To be fair to them we have decided to revamp the November weekend in it’s entirety and run the Danny Serrano 100 and the All American 40 on Sunday November 6th“ stated promoter Doug Rose.
The revamped November High Banks Classic will take place over two days, Saturday November 5 and Sunday November 6. “When moving Danny’s race to November 6th and looking what was originally scheduled the two dates had many similarities. So to make it easy we are simply going to replace the original schedule of events for the 6th with the scheduled events from September 25th“, Rose summarized.
With the new purse structures in place for Sunday’s events Bridgeport organizers felt it would be best to run the weekend as a Saturday and Sunday only event. Rose cited, “I have spoken with the organizers of the USAC All Pro SpeedSTR’s and the USAC EC Sprints on our decision to remove the Friday portion off the weekend. They understood the logistics and costs for Friday’s activities, it makes sense to remove at this time”.
With the new schedule in place, the High Banks Weekend will look like this for November 5 & 6……

Bridgeport Speedway returns Friday and Saturday October 7 & 8 for the Street Stock Nationals. This incredible weekend of racing includes a 100 lap Street Stock event paying $10,000 to the winner along with for the FIRST TIME EVER a 50 lap Sprint Car race, along with Modified’s going 30 laps, plus 4 Cylinder Stock Cars and Vintage Modifieds. Going to be another great weekend at this Kingdom of Speed!
Bridgeport, NJ – Day two of the Danny Serrano 100 weekend sponsored by Izzy Trucking & Rigging was full of racing action from start to finish with the Danny’s Pizza Pizazz Modifieds, the Precision Hydraulic & Oil 602 Sportsman and the Delaware Auto Exchange Mid Atlantic Sprint Series (MASS).
CJ Fasion swept the weekend in the 305 Sprint Cars, picking up his second and third Bridgeport Motorsports Park victories of the 2022 season. Ethan Bill scored a $1,000 victory with his win in the Prelude to the All American 40 for 602 Sportsman for his third win of the season. Sam Martz, Ryan Godown and Neal Williams raced to wins in the Triple 20 Modified qualifiers to begin to set the field for the third annual Danny Serrano 100.
Following his twenty-five lap win on Friday night, CJ Faison came right back on Saturday, set fast time, won his heat race, won the six lap dash sponsored by ERK Steering and then took the win in the thirty lap feature event. Dave Brown again chased the leader for most of the race but with five laps to go, Mike Melair was able to put his No. 54 in front of Brown for second.
Faison led every one of the thirty laps to take his third Bridgeport win of the season. Melair finished second after starting the race in eleventh. Dave Brown finished third followed by Larry McVay and Jon Brennfleck. Tim Iulg, Ryan Stillwaggon, Dan Leaper, Tommy Carberry and Kristina Pratt rounded out the top ten at the checkered flag.
Buddy Schweibinz was crowned as the 2022 MASS Champion following the feature event. Schweibinz had an insurmountable lead going into Saturday night’s feature event. He had clinched the title at the start. He unable to complete the feature due to mechanical difficulties. “This is one of my favorite tracks,” Schweibinz stated following his win. Schweibinz is a former 600 Micro Sprint competitor. He first came to Bridgeport to compete on the Spirit quarter mile and quickly attracted the attention of Danny Serrano.
Ethan Bill has certainly avoided the Sophomore slump experienced my many drivers in their season following their Rookie year. Bill, the 2021 DA’s Auto Body & Repair Rookie Champion, raced to his third win of the season in the Prelude to the All American 40.
The Bauman No. 14s made up the first row of the starting line-up with Dylan Swinehart on the pole and Logan Bauman on the outside. Swinehart quickly took the lead on the start while Matt Ellery raced into second. Swinehart led through lap thirteen but then came to a stop one lap later when the rear broke in the car.
Ellery became the race leader with Ethan Bill and Travis Hill racing for second and Logan Bauman and Tommy Beamer battling for fourth. Beamer was in a second Ellery No. 2.
Bill kept picking off the spots and after reaching second, turned his attention on the leader. Ellery and Bill raced for the lead with Bill taking over on lap nineteen.
Bill raced to the win over Ellery, Steve Davis, Steve Kemery and Steve Yankowski. The win was worth $1,000 for Bill and set him up to start the All American 40 on Sunday. “My dad gives me a good car,” Ellery stated. “All I have to do is drive it.”
Logan Bauman finished sixth followed by Beamer, Brian Papiez, Joe Toth and Louden Reimert (substituting for Bubba Hughes).
Three twenty lap qualifiers were run for Sunday’s Danny Serrano 100. The top three in each qualifier locked into the top nine redraw spots on Sunday with the fourth and fifth place finishers being able to redraw for tenth through fifteenth. The top three finishers also qualified for the cash dash sponsored by Elite Welder Training and Testing.
Sam Martz Sr. led from start to finish in the first twenty lap qualifier in spite of some pressure from Dominick Buffalino. Martz had built a considerable lead as Buffalino, Danny Bouc and Jeff Strunk raced in second through fourth.
Martz took the win over Buffalino, Bouc and Strunk. HJ Bunting and Dillon Steuer finished fifth and sixth to win their place in Sunday’s redraw.
Wade Hendrickson grabbed the lead in the second qualifier and led for three laps before Ryan Godown put the No. 26 out in front.
This twenty lapper was interrupted by a caution just past halfway when Alex Yankowski ‘s No. 84y went up in smoke. Yankowski quickly moved the car onto the quarter mile track and was immediately attended to by the fire crews when the fluids from the car blazed. Yankowksi was the winner of the first Danny Serrano 100.
On the restart, Godown pulled out if front with Matt Stangle now challenging Hendrickson for the position.
Godown led the way to the checkered over Stangle and Hendrickson followed by Brandon Grosso, Ryan Krachun and W.B. James.
Neal Williams was the winner of the third qualifier as he led from the green flag to the checkered. Billy Pauch Jr. finished second followed by Cale Ross, Frank Cozze and Jim Gallagher.
Sam Martz Sr. then picked up the win in the six lap dash for the top three finishers in the twenty lap qualifiers sponsored by Elite Welder Training & Testing. Wade Hendrickson showed his nose to Martz who was able to pull away from the competition after the first lap scored. Pauch, Jr. edged out Hendrickson for second at the checkered.

Bridgeport, NJ – Night one of Bridgeport Motorsports Park’s Danny Serrano Memorial Weekend has completed and we can be sure that Danny is pleased with the results. Jimmy Blewett drove the Ormsbee Team Outlaw No. 19 into Victory Lane as the EZ Work Trucks Street Stocks raced in their final event prior to the Street Stock Nationals. CJ Faison raced to his second Bridgeport win of the season in the Delaware Auto Exchange Mid Atlantic Sprint Series MASS), paying tribute to not only Danny Serrano but to Danny Kinzer, a close friend and former member of Faison’s crew who passed away recently. Travis Hill came up with the win in a highly competitive Underdog 20 sponsored by Fire Management Control of PA.
More than 100 cars filed into the pit area for the first of three days of racing in Serrano’s honor.
The Danny’s Pizza Pizzazz Modifieds raced in three sessions of hot laps with the fast timer in each group earning a redraw spot in the Triple 20 qualifiers for the Danny Serrano 100. HJ Bunting and the Blue Hen No. 30, Ryan Godown and the R&M Motorsports No. 26 and Neal Williams in Sal DeBruno’s No. 0 were the recipients of the redraw positions.
Blewett picked up the win in the twenty lap Street Stock feature that saw a lot of door-to-door racing throughout the field. 2022 Street Stock Champion, Lee Allen ran second to Blewett followed by Spider Ensinger, Sr., Jeff Dirkes and defending champion, Tom Wills, Jr. completing the top five at the checkered.
Spider Ensinger, Jr., Brian Ludwig, Drew Bocklebank, John Parker and Andrew Joslin rounded out the top ten at the end of twenty laps.
Blewett had nothing but praise for the Doug Rose facility. “Every time I come here there’s been more and more improvements,” Blewett expressed in Victory Lane. “In my opinion, it’s the best dirt facility that I’ve ever raced at.” Blewett honored Serrano, acknowledging how Danny’s ideas have come to life on the High Banks.
Triple R Truck Parts heat races were won by Rich Stinson and Jimmy Blewett.
CJ Fasion raced by Jon Brennfleck on the first lap and drove to the win in the MASS twenty-five lap feature event. Dave Brown didn’t make Faison’s job any easier as he closed in on the leader as they raced through lapped traffic for the first twenty-two laps of green flag racing. Tim Iulg brought out the caution for the first and only yellow flag of the event as he slowed on the homestretch with just three laps to go.
Brown kept it interesting as he challenged Faison after the restart and then dove to the inside off of turn four to cross the line with Faison at the checkered. Buddy Schweibinz, current MASS and Bridgeport point leader, drove to a strong third place finish with defending MASS Champion, Kevin Nagy taking fourth over Brennfleck. Mike Melair finished sixth followed by rookie, DJ Tanner, Jeff Paulson, Rick Stief and another 2022 rookie, Cory Hunsberger.
Mike Melair was the fast timer in the 305 Sprints. EZ Work Truck heat races were won by Dave Brown, Buddy Schweibinz and Jeff Paulson.
Travis Hill raced hard to pick up the win in the Underdog 20 for the non-winners in the Precision Hydraulic & Oil 602 Sportsman.
James Hill led the way through the first nine laps and multiple cautions. Hill used the outside to make a run for the lead on the lap ten restart. Logan Bauman made a great move on the restart to race by several cars including team mate, Dylan Swinehart but was then collected in turn three with the caution flying once again.
Swinehart raced by Hill to take over second with three laps to go and then used the time to cut into Hill’s lead. Travis Hill led the way to the checkered over Swinehart, James Hill, Billy Chester and Mike Toth.
Steven Yankowski set fast time for the 602 Sportsman.

Bridgeport, NJ – The time has come for the big end of the season race weekends to begin and at the Bridgeport Motorsports Park, it’s all about the upcoming of the three day Danny Serrano Weekend.
It is on this weekend each year that we honor the late General Manager of the Bridgeport Speedway. While Danny made his living by working at the track, this was so much more than a job for him. He was also the world’s biggest race fan. He cared about the drivers and he cared about the race track. It was a combination of those characteristic that made Danny so popular among both fans and racers alike.
It all gets underway this Friday with the Underdog 20 sponsored by Fire Management Control of Pennsylvania. The Underdog 20 is open to any driver who has not won a feature event during the 2022 season in the 602 Sportsman. The Delaware Auto Exchange Mid Atlantic Sprint Series (MASS) will open the weekend with the first of their two shows, led by current point leader, Buddy Schweibinz. The Bridgeport Motorsport Park Street Stocks will compete in qualifying and a fifteen lap feature event – their final tune-up before the Street Stock Nationals on October 7th and 8th on the High Banks. There will be 3 practice sessions offered for the Danny’s Pizza Pizzazz Modifieds during Friday night’s program.
Pit gates open at 3:30pm on Friday. Grandstands will open at 5 with hot laps at 6pm. The racing program will immediately follow the conclusion of hot laps.
Saturday’s racing action will include the fan favorite, Triple 20’s. The Modifieds will compete in three twenty lap qualifiers to determine the starters in Sunday’s Danny Serrano 100. The 20 lap qualifiers are sponsored by John Blewett Inc. The Sprint Car (MASS) competitors return for their second appearance of the weekend along with the Prelude to the All American – a full show for the 602 Sportsman presented by Precision Hydraulic & Oil featuring a $1,000 payday to the feature winner.
On Sunday, the Danny’s Pizza Pizzazz Modifieds will race for a $20,000 payday for any driver who wins the 100 lap event over Ryan Godown. Izzy’s Trucking and Rigging has put up the $10,000 bounty for this event. The Modifieds will also be featured in 1 on 1 Match Races sponsored by Elite Welder & Training. The Precision Hydraulic & Oil 602 Sportsman will be featured in a full program, culminating with the All American 40 – a 40 lap contest paying $4,000 to the winner. This event is sponsored by Ellery’s Bar & Grill and Dejana Truck & Utility Equipment. The 4 Cylinder competitors will also compete on Sunday.
The pit gates will open at 2pm on both Saturday and Sunday with the grandstand gates opening at 3pm on both days. Hot laps will get underway at 5pm with racing to begin immediately following the conclusion of hot laps.
Dominick Buffalino was the big winner in the Danny Serrano 100 last year and would like nothing better than to repeat that performance. Alex Yankowski won the inaugural event – a win that will never be forgotten as Yankowski tangled with a lap car on a cool down lap and flipped just before the starter’s stand. These races have produced some fantastic competition and terrific memories!
We all mourned the loss of Danny Serrano in March of 2020 but he lives on through his ideas and his contributions to the Bridgeport Motorsports Park. Danny’s got his seat for the weekend. Do you?
