Bridgeport, NJ – Racers and Fans swarmed Bridgeport Motorsports Park Booth this past weekend at the Motorsports Race Car & Trade Show in Oaks, PA.
Bridgeport Motorsports Park participated in the 2023 Pioneer Pole Buildings Motorsports Race Car and Trade Show at the Philadelphia Convention Center in Oaks, PA over the weekend. Track owners, Brittany and Doug Rose were kept busy throughout the show hours, answering questions from an array of drivers and great fans, selling billboard sponsorships, pit passes, pit parking and season tickets.
Bridgeport Speedway featured three competitors from the 2022 season. Back-to-back track Modified champion, Ryan Godown’s No. 26, the EZ Works Trucks sponsored No. 2 of CJ Faison representing the Delaware Auto Exchange Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series and the Barber No. 99 all set for Friday night action on the Spirit Speedway quarter mile.
A lot of the conversation over the weekend surrounded the two new attractions coming to the Bridgeport Motorsports Park this season – the American Flat Track race and the High Limit Racing Series. The Flat Track Motorcycles are the pinnacle of flat track racing. This event will receive national coverage through Fox Sports (FS1) when they hit the High Banks on July 22nd . The High Limit Series comes to Bridgeport for the final race on their schedule on October 3rd. Several drivers have already made the commitment to all of the events in this series including Kyle Larson, Rico Abreu and Justin Peck as well as PA Posse drivers, Danny Dietrich and Brent Marks.
The clay is on the way! The new clay will be added to the race track in the near future. The new clay should only make the racing greater than it has been in the past! It will certainly make for an even playing field across the board on opening weekend since it will be the first time on the new surface for all of the competitors.
There is a lot of excitement building for the 2023 season. The addition of the live Flo broadcasts last season has made Bridgeport a household name around the country as people from near and far are able to take in the racing action on the High Banks.

Doug and Brittany Rose, owners and promoters of Bridgeport Motorsports Park recently held a dinner party at Maria’s in Penn’s Grove, N.J., for the various track sponsors and business owners who supported the Speedway during the recently completed 2022 racing season.
In all, the business owners who supported the four-tenth-of-a-mile high-banked clay oval, as well as the Spirit Auto one-quarter mile inner oval, and supporters of the Doug Rose and Rich Tobias co-promoted Action Track USA were on hand, and treated to a delicious meal. Dinner attendees were then able to socialize with each other as well as Promoter Rose, who was moving about the room throughout the evening talking individually with the invited guests to personally say Thank You for all of the great support.
Upon arriving, all guests were presented with a gift of appreciation for their commitment and support. Prior to the start of dinner, invited guests were each introduced, and then the gathering was addressed by Doug Rose, who expressed his heartfelt thanks to everyone in attendance for their great support of the various Bridgeport Motorsports Park events. Rose told the gathering it was because of their great backing that he was able to provide not only the weekly racing events at the tracks, but bring in the higher profile national traveling series, which help to push the track into the national spotlight.
Rose was honored and thankful to host the events he did in 2022, and those events he will be having in the new season ahead, all with the tremendous partnerships that have been developed with the great sponsors that Bridgeport is fortunate to have.
The sponsors who support Bridgeport Motorsports Park and Spirit Auto Speedway know that the track has a very busy schedule each season, with events running from March until November, so they know that their sponsorship is viewed by a lot of people and for most of the calendar year. Another huge factor is the live stream coverage of the race programs by Flo Racing for Bridgeport, and The Cushion for Spirit, so the sponsors know their business and products reach a large audience.
Both Doug and Brittany wanted to let the sponsors know, that not only is their financial support greatly appreciated, but by working closely with the sponsors to set up their agreements, it has allowed the Roses’ to develop new friendships as well.
The dinner party was a new way in which the Roses’ wanted to give back to, and recognize the people who are an important part of the success of the Bridgeport Motorsport Park, Spirit Auto Center Speedway and Action Track USA facilities.

Bridgeport, NJ – The 2023 racing season marks the fourth season for Doug and Brittany rose at the helm of the Bridgeport Motorsports Park. Their action-packed schedules lure fans from many types of racing to the High Banks of the Kingdom of Speed.
The 2020 season was not for the faint of heart for business owners – and certainly not racetrack promoters who had to delay their opening days for several months due to Covid 19 restrictions. The deferred 2020 opening day was just the beginning of what was to come to the Logan Township speed plant. Every year, the Bridgeport Speedway adds new excitement to the season schedule and 2023 promises to be a big one. “When we started this journey three years ago,” Rose explains, “we told all of the teams at our first drivers meeting that our plan was to make Bridgeport relevant not just here in the Northeast but throughout the entire country.” “We wanted Bridgeport to be considered for events like an Eldora or a Williams Grove or Knoxville,” Rose added.
With the addition of live Flo broadcasts last season, Bridgeport has certainly exceeded those expectations. “The live Flo coverage has done wonders for Bridgeport, our drivers and our sponsors” Rose explains. “Drivers that understand the power of social media know how to utilize what we offer them by racing at Bridgeport. If they want national exposure, they know the advantages if racing at Bridgeport. Drivers that want their family members and friends across the country to be able to see them compete know the pluses of being a Bridgeport competitor,” Rose adds. “Sponsors love everything that we have to offer her at Bridgeport – the professional atmosphere, the large crowds, the high-profile events and the national coverage through Flo.”
The addition of the Flo broadcasts has brought Bridgeport into livings rooms from coast to coast and the benefits of this coverage is not lost among the competitors. “The popularity of Flo has skyrocketed and has made racing at Bridgeport so much more attractive for our sponsors and fans,” says Billy Pauch, Jr. who called Bridgeport his home last season. “It’s amazing how many people watch me race from the comfort of home from across the country.”
Neal Wiliams represents a melding of the “old” Bridgeport with the new Bridgeport Motorsports Park as he wheels the Sal DeBruno owned No. 0 around the High Banks. DeBruno has been a car owner at Bridgeport for many years. Williams agrees with Pauch, Jr. and adds, “Some of our sponsors provide services in multiple states and now have the ability for their brand names and logos to be seen by potential customers not attending the weekly races.” “This creates great brand recognition which will influence where a new customer chooses to do business.”
“When Brad and Kyle call you, it’s a big deal,” says Doug Rose as Bridgeport will be one of twelve tracks to host an event for the High Limit Racing Series formed by brothers-in-law, Brad Sweet and Kyle Larson. The online sales for this show have already exceeded past World of Outlaw shows at Bridgeport. The October 3 promises to be a big event as drivers like fan-favorite, Rico Abreu of St Helena, CA has already committed to running the full High Limit schedule as has Larson. Many of the NASCAR affiliated teams are also expected to be in the field. This race is certain to draw from the deep well of local talent as drivers from the PA Posse and other circuits are sure to compete for the $$$$$$$$$$.
“I’ve been asked several times how did we get an American Flat Track event or a High Limit event at Bridgeport” Rose continues. “We didn’t – they came to us! It’s all about that national exposure!” The American Flat Track Motorcycles are the pinnacle of flat track motorcycle racing and will have national coverage through Fox Sports (FS1).
“Bridgeport’s weekly competitors are what make Bridgeport successful,” Rose adds. The Saturday night programs have grown in leaps and bounds from the perspective of both the pits and the grandstands and they too, will benefit from the 2023 schedule. “We learned some things last year,” Rose explained, “and we’ve “made some adjustments to this year’s schedule.” There are twelve bigger purse races for the Modifieds this season. They will also have six Saturday nights off during the season to spend with family or schedule vacations. The Modifieds will be part of all of the high-profile events. There’s a great weekly purse along with a strong point fund as well.
Rose knows that the weekly points chase can be quite intense for the Saturday night divisions and that can deter some competitors from racing a full season. Rose has provided two off nights for the Sportsman in July – at the mid-point of the season. Howie Finch and “Ice Less” will sponsor the “Drop Night” for the Sportsman this season. Sportsman teams will have the opportunity to run all of the races and then drop their worst finish or they can choose a weekend during the season to take a night off to spend with their families. There will be a number of bigger paying events for the Sportsman in addition to the $4,000 to win All American 40 and the Precision Hydraulic & Oil Invitational returns to the 2023 schedule.
The Bridgeport Motorsports Park Street Stocks are a growing division. “This is a great group of guys,” Rose relates, “and they provide some of the coolest racing on the High Banks and we are looking forward to another great season for the Street Stocks.” Frank Cozze and Rose are planning for their third Street Stock Nationals – an event that puts this division in the spotlight.
Sprint Cars have become a mainstay at Bridgeport and will continue to be in the forefront of the 2023 schedule. The Delaware Auto Exchange Mid Atlantic Sprint Series is prepared for their seventeen race schedule on the High Banks this season. The Rapid Tire East Coast Wingless Sprints will also return to the Kingdom of Speed several times this season as will the North East Wingless Sprints (NEWS). The NEWS competitors made their first appearance on the High Banks during the 2022 season and are looking forward to returning for several shows in the new season. And, of course, Bridgeport will host the USAC National Wingless Sprint Series during the Eastern Storm as well as the Invasion of the PA Posse, The All Star Circuit of Champions and of course, the High Limit event.
The Extreme Outlaw Midgets will make their first appearance at Bridgeport in August.
The Four Cylinder competitors are pleased with their Bridgeport schedule for the 2023 season which has these race warriors returning for several events throughout the season.
Rose is currently searching for new clay for the high banked 4/10 mile track. “We have had several samples tested. We’re looking for the right material. We are a little particular about what we put down. We have a goal that we want the new clay to meet so finding the right combination is essential.” More information about the surface will be shared as it becomes available.
“Bridgeport offers a completely unique “LIVE” experience for both the racers and the fans,” emphasizes Rose. “The atmosphere is almost NASCARish”. The roar of the cars as they come off the banking and head down the homestretch – the way the sound echos off of the billboards – there’s nothing like it in the area. Add to that experience the lighting, the lack of dust and the clean atmosphere and you have a unique experience in dirt track racing.

Bridgeport, NJ – The Bridgeport Motorsports Park and Spirit Auto Center Speedway honored their 2022 track champions on Saturday night at the track’s annual awards banquet catered by Ellery’s Bar & Grill at the Bridgeport Fire Company. This marked the third season of operation for Doug & Brittany Rose who continue to make improvements and to bring all types of racing to the fans at the Logan Township facility. “We wouldn’t be able to do what we do without these people,” Rose stated as announcers, Barry Angstadt and Jeff Ahlum recognized each employee and their position.
Rose told all in attendance about the big Flat Track event that is being planned for Bridgeport Motorsports Park this season. It will be the first of its kind event for the Tri-State area.
What is there left to say about Ryan Godown and his R&M Motorsports team? Celebrating their back-to-back Bridgeport Championships came as the result of some pretty impressive numbers that were posted throughout the 2022 season in competition with the Danny’s Pizza Pizzazz Modifieds. Out of the twenty events run by the Modifieds this season, Godown finished outside the top ten on only two occasions. Fourteen wins were credited to Godown and the No. 26 with extra distance wins coming in the Ron Faison Memorial , the Doug Hoffman Memorial, the Short Track Super Series, the Super DIRTcar race as well as the Danny Serrano 100. After Billy Pauch won the season opener followed by four wins in a row for Godown. A few weeks later, Godown stretched a new winning streak to seven to write a new record in the history books. His fourteen Bridgeport wins tied the mark held by Billy Pauch.
Godown goes out of his way to make sure that everyone understands that his success belongs to his crew, his family and his sponsors. “This is all about these people – without them I’m nothing,” Godown pointed out. “I have the fun job – I show up to drive the car.” His success has allowed his team to continue to grow, as more sponsors and supporters want to become involved with this team.
And this team plans to keep doing what they have been doing. They continue to find small things to give them more speed and better performance.
Billy Pauch, Jr. brought Godown’s win streak to an end at seven wins as he collected the bounty that had been placed on Godown. Pauch, Jr. was the only other driver to score multiple victories this season as he led the points for most of the season – up until the final two races. Pauch, Jr. and the Holsten No. 96 collected thirteen top five. Five time Modified Champion, Ryan Watt captured his first win on the High Banks and finished third in points at season’s end. Richie Pratt, Jr. and the Danny’s Pizza Pizzazz No. 51 finished fourth with Dominick Buffalino taking fifth with the Big Spring Car Wash No. 126. Ryan Krachun held the one lap record for most of the season and finished sixth in points followed by Neal Williams, Tommy Beamer, Sam Martz and Sammy Martz, Jr. Martz, Jr. also earned Rookie of the Year honors after a very impressive Rookie season.
Mike Franz and Cale Ross were feature event winners during the 2022 season. Just five drivers were able to capture wins on the High Banks during the 2022 season.
The highest form of flattery to a race car driver is to have the respect of his fellow competitors. Tommy Beamer and the Thorton Gulf No. 31 excelled in this area. Beamer has decided to call it a career and received the loudest ovation of any one during the awards banquet. Doug Rose awarded Beamer with the Most Improved Driver Award. Beamer finished eighth in points and came close to being the driver to bring Godown’s win streak to a end.
This year’s track championship had an extra special meaning as Godown shared the limelight with Ryan Godownm Jr., the 2022 Precision Hydraulic & Oil 602 Sportsman Champion. Godown, Jr. started of the season with back-to-back wins and then finished the year with a total of five feature wins. “I think that I have the best team in the world,” Godown. Jr. told those in attendance. “It’s all about the work you do in the shop every week.”
Howie Finch finished finished second in 602 Sportsman points with a single win followed by Brian Papiez with four wins and Matt Ellery with a single win finishing fourth. Steven Yankowski finished fifth. The 2021 Rookie of Year, Ethan Bill received the Most Improved Driver award after finishing sixth in points and collecting three wins in his sophomore season.
Travis Hill, Wayne Weaver, Brian Rogers and David Jenkins rounded out the top ten in 602 Sportsman points.
Lee Allen raced to his first Bridgeport Motorsports Park Street Stock title against a very tough group of competitors. Allen raced every lap of every feature event, winning six times throughout the season. “I try to win as many races as I can,” Allen explained, “it’s all about having fun!”
Mike Hughes with five wins finished second followed by Jeramy Doerr with two wins, Jeff Dirkes with three wins and fifth place Nick Sandone finishing fifth with a single win, the first of his career.
Thomas Prychka was the 2022 DA’s Auto Body & Repair Rookie Champion after winning the first three races of the season. Prychka is looking for to a full season of 602 Sportsman competition in 2023. Mike Baldwin finished third followed by Vincent Malcom and Hailey Cook. The Rookies were presented with their awards by Rookie Sponsor, Dave Adams.
Ed Ford raced to the Four Cylinder Championship with a perfect record of completing every lap in every race in which he competed. Ford demonstrated the fact that races are won and lost in the garage, not only in the Winner’s Circle. Ford edged out Goe Garey, Sr. by just a few points at the end of the season. Ken Johnson finished third.
Most Popular Driver Awards were presented by D&D Media and the Bridgeport Bullet, the official program of the Bridgeport Motorsports Park. Tommy Beamer was the popular winner in the Modified contest. Matt Ellery picked up the award for the 602 Sportsman with Nick Sandone getting the nod in the Street Stock Division. The Bozowski brothers shared the limelight for the quarter mile with PJ Bozowski winning the All. Star Slingshot Most Popular Driver award and Gary Bozowski winning in the 600 Micro Sprints.
Thirteen year old Brayden Morrison of Browns Mills, NJ became the first Junior Slingshot Champion in the track’s history. The Junior Slingshots were approved for competition at the start of the 2022 season and they went on to race wins in a row and ended his championship season with a total of ten wins. Christopher Buffalino got a late start on the season and still won seven of the eleven races that he compeed in. Cody Williamson finished third in the final point standings.
In the first Poker Series for the Junior Slingshots, it was Buffalino who won the title over Morrison and Williamson.
Michael Beckett won the Speedway Entertainment All Star Slingshot title for the first time since joining the Slingshot ranks three seasons ago. Amanda Angstadt chased Beckett throughout the season to finish second in points followed by PJ Bozowski, Ryan Davey and Dave Morrell.
Angstadt won her third Poker Series title with three of a kind. Beckett finished second with a pair of Kings and Bozowski’s pair of Jacks was good for a third place finish.
Alex Swift teamed up with John and Amanda Blanda to win thier fourth Championship title in the 270 Micro Sprints after winning eight times during the 2022 season. Nick Walton finished second with two win, Lou Nardelli was third with a single win. Tommy Rinc’s eighteen top tens put him fourth in points with Nick Skias rounding out the top five with a single win. Dom Pomponi was sixth in points followed by Billy Gray (with two wins), Trevor Waegel, Joe Dopke and Tyler Grau completing the too ten in points.
Swift was also the Poker Series Champion for the 270 Micro Sprints. Swift held a full house for the title followed by Rinck with three of a kind. Skias finished third with a pair.
Matt Smith raced to his third title in the Hyper Racing/EVO Injection 600 Micro Sprints, doing so with eleven top five and and thirteen top ten finishes. PJ Williams fiished second followed by Gary Bozowski, Chris Fenimore and 2021 Champion Connor Gross. Anthony Tramontana. Robert Pierce, Kyle Spence, Rich Deck and Tommy Kunsman, Jr. rounded out the top ten.
One hundred and thirty-five drivers competed in the 600 division this season with eleven different drivers capturing feature wins.

Bridgeport, NJ – The High Banks Classic Weekend was the final event on the 2022 schedule for the Bridgeport Motorsports Park. The Danny Serrano 100 was the headline event for the Danny’s Pizza Pizazz Modifieds while the Precision Hydraulic & Oil 602 Sportsman were featured in the All American 40 on Sunday. The High Banks Classic weekend was sponsored by Izzy Trucking & Rigging and John Blewett, Inc.
This year’s event was the third running of the Danny Serrano 100 and all three races have been won by different drivers. Alex Yankowski won the inaugural event in 2000, taking the checkered flag and then flipping on the cool down lap when he tangled with a lapped car. Last year’s event was won by Dominick Buffalino with the Big Spring Car Wash No. 126. And now, in 2022, Ryan Godown has added his name to the list of winners of this event.
Serrano was an integral part of Doug & Brittany Rose’s first season at the helm of the newly constructed Bridgeport Motorsports Park. Unfortunately, Danny never got to see the results of the fruits of their labor but there is no doubt, that he would be well pleased with the end result. Serrano’s family was in attendance. Danny’s mother expressed her appreciation for this event that carries Danny’s name and is run in his honor each season.
After a dismal week at the World Finals in Charlotte, NC, Ryan Godown was only too happy to come home and return to the Weaknecht Archery Victory Lane at the end of the 100 lap Danny Serrano 100. This victory was Godown’s fourteenth Bridgeport win of the season, tying the record set by Billy Pauch for the most wins in a season.
Danny Serrano made his living in race track management but he was also the biggest fan of the sport. It was that love of racing that propelled him to work so hard to promote racing events for both the drivers and the fans. A win in the Danny Serrano 100 has special meaning to the race winner. Coming from the same general area, Godown had a relationship with Danny both on and off the track. “We would get together away from racing,” Godown explained.
Sam Martz won the pole for the start of the 100 laps by virtue of his win in the Dash held on the original race date in September. It was Martz and Wade Hendrickson who led the field to the start but it was third place starter, Matt Stangle who grabbed the lead on the first lap and then led the through lap forty when mechanical failure sidelined Stangle from the event. Godown had been pressuring Stangle for the lead and had just completed the pass for the lead when the Ace Materials No. 6 slowed, bringing out the caution. Godown took the lead over Martz, Danny Bouc, Hendrickson and Mike Gular who was working on his best Bridgeport effort to date.
Godown drove away to a healthy lead while Gular picked his way through the top five, taking over second on lap fifty-five. Martz, Hendrickson, Bouc and Ryan Krachun raced in and around the top five throughout the distance.
Dave Hunt had just reached the top five when his day came to an end with a lot of smoke with thirty-laps to go. Hunt, like Ryan Watt, started at the rear of the line-up. With twenty-five laps to go, Watt caught the top five with the Roberts Racing No. Z14. Watt broke into the top five with just fifteen laps to go and then raced Ryan Krachun for third, finally securing the position with five laps to go.
Godown led the way to the checkered flag and the $10,000 Winner’s purse followed by Gular in second. Gular’s performance did a one hundred & eighty degree turn from qualifying day when he struggled to qualify. The addition to Gular’s team of Ron Seltman doing the set-ups was certainly a huge part of Gular’s improvement. Watt finished third, driving Ronnie Roberts car to the finish. It was the second year in a row that Watt raced the No. Z14 in the final race of the season. Both times, Watt turned in a podium finish. “It’s even the same car and motor as last year,” Watt added. Krachun finished fourth after his late battle with Watt while Sam Martz, Sr. rounded out the top five.
A late race move saw Dillon Steuer cross the line in sixth over Bouc, Buffalino, Hendrickson and Sammy Martz, Jr.
There was little time for celebration for Godown and his team since a 5:30am flight would carry them South where they would compete in the Cajun Swing starting on Saturday. “If it wasn’t for guys like my brother, Butchie and Mike (Collucci), I wouldn’t be able to do what I do,” Godown explained. It may have been the last Bridgeport race of the season but Godown still took the time to discuss handling and getting through the corners with Ryan Krachun after the race. Krachun came with questions and he and Godown discussed what he could do to get his Amwell Auto Body No. 29 through the corners better.
The Modifieds competed in One on One Match races sponsored by Amwell Auto Body. Sam Martz started the competition by calling up Ryan Godown. Godown picked up the win and then won two more matches against Jim Gallagher and Jeff Strunk. Wade Hendrickson then defeated Godown in the fourth match and won four more times against Frank Cozze, Brandon Grosso, Danny Bouc and Ryan Krachun. Dominick Buffalino defeated Hendrickson and was then beaten by Matt Stangle. Stangle took on Cale Ross for the final match with Ross taking the win. Hendrickson was the big winner with five match wins.
The Precision Hydraulic & Oil 602 Sportsman lined up for the All American 40 sponsored by Dejana Truck & Utility Equipment, Ice Less and Ellery’s Pub & Grill.
Scott Hulmes and Ethan Bill led the field to the start with Bill grabbing the lead at the wave of the green. By lap four, Brian Papiez was chasing the race leader and looking to make a clean sweep of the weekend after his topless win on Saturday.
By lap nine, Bill had caught up to the back of the field. The traffic in front of him along with a caution, allowed Papiez to close in on the leader.
Papiez was able to challenge Bill for the lead, using a slide job to put the No. 37 out in front on the restart. The slide job was a little short and Papiez was unable to clear the leader. The race for Papiez came to and end.
Just before halfway, the red flag was needed after Scott Hulmes found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time. Hulmes went for a big ride over John Micek’s No. 21A. Scott’s son, Danny Hulmes, was racing a second car and got airborne after making contact with the disabled cars on the track. No driver injuries were reported but several cars were heavily damaged.
Bryan Brobst raced into second and trailed Bill all the way to the checkered. Dylan Swinehart was behind the wheel of the Carol’s Tree Service No. 74 and he pressured Brobst throughout the second half of the race. Swinehart also had a battle with Steve Kemery while Bill raced away from the competition.
Bill took the win – the fourth win of the season for the 2021 DA’s Auto Body & Repair Rookie of the Year. With sponsorship from Izzy Trucking & Rigging and All County Garage Door, Bill’s father, Johnny prepared the No. 14. “I just had to do my part,” the feature winner stated. Brobst, a one time feature winner this season, finished second followed by Steve Kemery, Swinehart and Tom Sherby. Tom Moore, Jr. finished 6th followed by Ryan Simmons, Steven Yankowski, Ryan Grim and David Miloczar.
This was Bill’s biggest victory to date. After losing a motor at the end of the season, Bill was afraid that he would miss the last race of the season but Paul Hartwig and son came to Bill’s rescue with a loaned power plant. It certainly got the job done!
Hoffman Discount Parts heat races were won by Papiez, Travis Hill and Steven Yankowski. The top seven in each heat were awarded pay-offs courtesy of Bicknell, Jones Racing Products, Penske Shocks, Vahlco Wheels, Thorton Gulf, Fresh Carb and Lineman Racing.
The EZ Finance Truck Four Cylinders competed in their last event of the season with Justin Dunn racing to the win. Ian Ashford finished second in spite of pressure from Eric Degler in third. Bobby Johnson finished fourth followed by 2022 Champion, Ed Ford.
Premio Sausage Four Cylinder heats were won by Ian Ashford and Robbie Dunn.

Bridgeport, NJ – Three full days of sprint car action featuring four different divisions of sprint cars! Who could ask for more?
The final day of Sprintoberfest competition sponsored by Eastern Rigging left nothing to the imagination and delivered everything a racer could ask for!
Gio Scelzi raced to the win in the forty lap main event for the 410 Sprints after setting a new one lap record on Friday that was then broken by Anthony Macri on Sunday. “This is such an awesome race track,” Scelzi related. “I like to come here.” Scelzi had competed on the High Banks on several other occasions.
The Rapid Tire USAC East Coast Wingless Sprints had the crowd on the edge of their seats as rookie, Bobby Butler led thirty-nine of the forty laps before getting up on the cushion and flipping wildly while racing with two of the best – Briggs Danner and Alex Bright. Danner led just the final lap to pick up his twelfth win in his Championship season.
Devon Borden left the High Banks on Sunday after racing to his first Bridgeport win in the United Racing Club (URC) forty lap main event. His Shuttleworth Stehman racing team gave the young Raymond, WA driver excellent equipment all weekend as they also picked up a top five finish in the 410 feature event.
The West Coast drivers certainly drew attention in the 410 events. After picking up the twenty-five lap win on Saturday night, Cory Eliason went right to the front in Sunday’s feature, Eliason started to the outside of polesitter, Devon Borden, and raced into the lead at the wave of the green. Justin Peck raced into second on lap four and chased Eliason all the way through lap twenty-three. The caution waved at that point when the leader slowed with mechanical issues. This caution was then designated as the mandatory break when the teams were allowed to add fuel and make adjustments to the cars.
Unfortunately, it became evident that Eliason would relinquish his lead as his race came to an end after a mechanical failure. As the caution waved, smoke could be seen from Peck’s Buch Motorsports No. 13. His race also came to an end at the break. Third place Gio Scelzi inherited the lead when the field went back to green flag racing.
Scelzi referred to these events as a “Christmas gift” but he was able to capitalize by racing to the win and the $15,000 prize. Borden raced in second behind the leader until Danny Dietrich moved up to second with a great move on a lap twenty-five restart. One lap later, Kyle Reinhardt raced by Dietrich to take over second.
It was Lance Dewease who was on the move in the final laps as he raced from fifth to third just before the checkered.
Scelzi took the win over Reinhardt who did all he could to pick up the win in his home state. Dewease grabbed third on the final lap from Borden who finished fourth ahead of Dietrich. Ryan Smith finished sixth followed by Davie Franek, Troy Wagaman, Lucas Wolfe and Dominic Melair. Lucas Wolfe was the hard charger of the race.
Indy Race Parts heat races were won by Borden, Eliason and Scelzi. Borden picked up the win in the five lap Dash over Macri and Eliason.
Macri set fast time during timed hot laps, setting a new one lap record for the 410 sprints at 12.459 seconds.
In just his third race with the USAC East Coast Wingless Sprints, Bobby Butler showed himself as a serious contender. After tranferring through his qualifier on Saturday, Butler started from the pole in the forty lap main event on Sunday. Butler quickly moved out in front of the field at the wave of the green. Aiden Borden, Joey Amantea, Kyle Spence and Alex Bright raced in the top five behind Butler with five laps scored. ‘
Amantea and Bright moved up to second and third by lap ten as Briggs Danner broke into the top five. Butler continued to drive away from the field with his 358 power plant – not 360 like the other competitors.
Bright moved into second and then closed the gap on the leader as they raced through heavy lapped traffic. With twenty-two laps scored, the caution waved for Preston Lattomus, giving the leaders a clear track ahead but also erasing Butler’s advantage, moving Alex Bright and the Rodota Trucking No. 20 right on his back bumper.
Bright challenged for the lead with multiple slide jobs but Butler was able to answer with crossover moves each time. While Butler and Bright battled, Amantea and Danner were racing hard for third.
With ten laps to go, Butler had both Bright and Danner in his wake. After Bright challenged for the lead with slide jobs, Danner countered and took over second on lap thirty-four.
Five to go and Butler was still holding his challengers at bay. “I knew I had to run hard,” Butler explained. On lap thirty-nine, Butler got into the cushion but had a enough room to correct and hold the lead as he and Danner raced down the backstretch. The leaders took the white flag and raced into turn one. This time, when Butler raced hard into the corner, he caught the track the wrong way, causing the car to turn toward the wall and get up in the air. Butler literally flipped on top of the Heffner No. 5G . “I couldn’t believe we didn’t have more damage,” Danner stated. “Just the front bumper.”
The red flag was thrown. Butler climbed from the car on his own but later elected to be checked out at the hospital. The field realigned for the one lap shootout with a scene that has been repeated many times this season – Danner in the lead with Bright on his back bumper.
Danner raced to his twelfth win of the season followed by Bright, Amantea, Spence and Kenny Miller who rebounded from a flat tire during the red flag. Colin White finished sixth with Steve Drevicki, Christian Bruno, Jonathan Swanson and Ed Aiken completing the top ten.
Devon Borden chalked up several firsts with his forty lap win in the URC main event on Sunday. It was his first win at Bridgeport as well as the state of New Jersey, his first 360 win on the East Coast and his first win with URC.
Borden took the green from inside the second row and Jordan Thomas and Anthony Macri leading the field to the green flag. Macri dove to the inside of turn three to grab the lead on the first lap.
After visiting Victory Lane a few mintues earlier, Briggs Danner raced the winged Heffner No. 5G into second on lap two but Borden fought back to regain the runner-up position. Thomas and Dallas Shott rounded out the top five with five laps on the books.
Shott moved up to fourth as Tyler Ross broke into the top five before ten laps were scored.
The number thirteen wasn’t unlucky for Borden as he drove into the lead, passing Macri on lap thirteen.
On lap twenty, Borden raced into turn one and quickly came up on the car of BRandon McGough. McGough stood the No. 669 on it’s tail, right in front of the race leader. Borden made it through the incident unscathed as the red flag was thrown. McGough was not injured.
The field regrouped after the fuel stop to complete the forty lap distance.
Borden went right back to work, maintaining the lead and pulling away from the field. Shott moved up to third with Danner and Robbie Stillwaggon completing the top five as Borden again caught the back of the field.
Borden was flawless on the final caution with just ten laps to go. Borden drove to the checkered flag, earning his first trip to Weaknecht Archery Victory Lane with his crew to celebrate their win. “This is really awesome,” Borden exclaimed. “The racing is really good here and it’s good for the fans too!”
Macri finished second followed by Shott, Danner and Ross. Robbie Stillwaggon finished sixth followed by Josh Weller, DJ Christie, Troy Betts and Kyle Smith.
Sprintoberfest was a weekend that won’t be forgotten any time soon.

Bridgeport, NJ – Cory Eliason dove to the inside of Justin Peck on lap nine to take the lead in the twenty-five lap Capitol Renegade 410 feature event on Day two of the Sprintober Fest weekend sponsored by Specialty Rigging at the Bridgeport Motorsports Park.
Eric Jennings made it two for two with his second win of the weekend in the North East Wingless Sprints. Briggs Danner picked up wins in both his USAC East Coast Wingless fifteen lap qualifier and his fifteen lap qualifier with the United Racing Club. (URC) Austin Graby picked up the win in the second USAC EC qualifier after competing in just a handful of races during his rookie season. Jordan Thomas raced to the win in the second qualifier for the URC competitors.
Justin Peck raced to the win in the 410 Dash, earning the pole position start in the twenty-five lap main event. Peck raced out in front at the wave of the green but Eliason quickly moved in to challenge for the lead. Peck held off the challenge and raced to a lead of several car lengths. Eliason challenged Peck again on a lap eight restart. Peck was able to regain the lead but Eliason was out in as the leaders headed to the start finish line to complete lap nine. Peck had a tire going down from this point of the race and managed to maintain his runner-up finish all the way to the checkered flag.
Anthony Macri, Gio Scelzi and Kyle Reinhardt battled for the third position through the second half of the race with Scelzi securing third over Macri and Reinhardt.
The checkered flag waved for Eliason who was making his first ever start on the High Banks. Peck finished second, maneuvering the Buch No. 13 with a tire that was going flat during the final fifteen laps. The tire was on the rim by the time Peck made it back to his pit area. Scelzi. who set a new one lap record for the 410s on Friday night, finished third followed by Macri and Reinhardt. Tyler Ross, Danny Dietrich, Lance Dewease, Lucas Wolfe and Paulie Colagiovanni completed the top ten in the running order at the end of twenty-five laps.
Eliason, who traveled from his home state of California to compete in the first Sprintober Fest, was pleased to add a victory to a season that did not meet his expectations. “I didn’t make it here with the All Stars,” Eliason related. “This is a bad ass place!” HIs focused now was on the $15,000 prize money for the win Sunday.
Aiden Borden led the first lap of the USAC EC first qualifier but it was Briggs Danner who raced into the lead on the second lap. Danner drove away from the competition, leaving Borden to battle for second with Kyle Spence.
A lap nine caution restacked the field for the restart, erasing Danner’s lead. Bright was able to take over second in the final laps but was unable to catch Danner as they raced to the checkered. Danner took the win over Bright, Borden, Spence and Jonathan Swanson. Colin White and Preston Lattomus followed in the final two transfer spots.
Austin Graby grabbed the lead in the second qualifier for the wingless 360 sprints and led all the way to the checkered. Bobby Butler quickly moved into second where he spent the remaining laps, chasing the leader. Kenny Miller III raced inside and outside to finish third followed by Joey Amantea and Chris Allen. Eric Jennings and three time USAC EC Champion, Steven Drevicki raced into the final two transfer spots.
Anthony Macri led lap one of the first URC qualifier but Danner raced from his fourth place start to take the lead on lap two. Macri was able to close in on the leader as they raced through lapped traffic but even a big slide job in the final corners of the race was not enough to overtake Danner. Devon Borden finished third over Tyler Ross and Jason Schultz.
Josh Weller led the way in a second URC qualifier, leading the first nine laps of the race. Jordan Thomas raced into the lead on lap two and never looked back as he raced to the fifteen lap win. Weller crossed the line in second over Troy Betts, Dallas Schott and Mike Melaire,
Eric Jennings was able to return to Victory Lane for the second time during the weekend as he drove to the win in the twenty lap NEWS feature. Nick Dagostino took the lead at the wave of the green.
D’Agostino led the way for the first nine laps. A lap ten restart saw D’Agostino take the outside for the restart but Jennings quickly went to the outside of Dagostino as they exited turn two. Jennings had the lead as the field received the crossed flags.
Mike Thompson raced into second dropping D’Agostino to third.
Rich Mellor raced into third on a lap thirteen restart, trailing Jennings and Thompson. Brendan Hires raced into fourth in the final laps.
Jennings drove to the checkered for his second win of the weekend followed by Thompson, Mellor, Hires and D’Agostino.
