REPEAT WINNERS ALL AROUND AT BRIDGEPORT

REPEAT WINNERS ALL AROUND AT BRIDGEPORT

Four different drivers were repeat winners at the Bridgeport Speedway on Saturday night but they all arrived in Victory Lane after some very different circumstances.

Jamie Mills put the Blue Hen Special in Victory Lane for the second time this season after winning the drag race with Wade Hendrickson to the checkered flag in the Spirit Dodge Big Block Modified feature event.  Mills win came with the narrowest of margins of the night.

After many top five finishes this season, Jim Britt picked up his first and second wins of the season as he collected both the May 16th held over event and the regular feature in the Stewart Stainless Crate/Sportsman action.

Jeramy Doerr picked up three consecutive wins in the PennCo Tech Outlaw Stocks to start the 2015 season and returned to Victory Lane with win number four on Saturday night.  D.A. Auto Body & Repair Rookie, Steve Kemery also earned his fourth win of the season in Rookie competition.

The month of May ended the same way it began for Big Block Modified driver, Jamie Mills – with a feature win at the end of the night but the night looked like it belonged to the Flying Farmer, Wade Hendrickson, until the final lap of the twenty-five lap main event.

Scott Ambruster led the first lap with Hendrickson taking over on the second circuit.  Bob Sarkisian moved up to second with Hendrickson leading, Sarkisian, Ron Roberts, Ambruster and Jack Swain with five complete.  Swain moved up to fourth as Ryan Watt fought his way into the top five on lap eleven.

Hendrickson maintained the top spot through several restarts as Watt moved up to fourth before a right rear flat had him headed to the pits just before the half way mark.  Sam Martz moved up to third on the subsequent restart with Mills and Sarkisian right behind.  Martz took over second on the next restart for the disabled car of Jesse Hill.

Martz found the outside to his liking as he pressured Hendrickson for the lead.  Mills looked to the inside of Martz just before five to go but Martz was having none of it as he pursued the leader.  Hendrickson led Martz, Mills, Laubach and Swain with five to go.  Laubach had moved up to third on lap twenty-one but his efforts were negated by a caution flag.

With Mills pressuring, Martz took his race to the outside as the race for the lead became a three way battle between Hendrickson, Martz and Mills.  With just one lap to go, Martz had a right rear tire blow, bringing out the caution one more time and setting up a one lap shootout to the checkered flag.

Now Hendrickson had Mills on his heals as they lined up for the single file restart.  Mills pulled even with Hendrickson as they raced out of turn two for the final time but Hendrickson pulled ahead as they raced down the backstretch.  Coming to the line it was anyone’s race with Mills pulling to about a half car length advantage at the checkered flag.  It was Mills for the win over Hendrickson, Laubach, Swain and Richie Pratt, Jr.

Jim Britt made his return to the Bridgeport season last season, his last feature win at Bridgeport coming during the 2003 season.  He added two more to the win column after taking both the rained out feature event from May 16th as well as the regular Stewart Stainless Crate/Sportsman feature on Saturday night.

Britt’s wins came on two totally different track surfaces.  With the rained out feature the first event on the Saturday night schedule, Britt took the lead from Scott Hulmes before the five lap mark and led the distance to the checkered over CJ Jones, Jeremy Harrington, Bob Lilick and Gary Hieber.

In the nightcap, it was Nick Nicotra who led the first lap before 2014 Rookie Champion, Matthew Peck took over on lap two.  Peck led for six circuits until Britt made the pass for the lead on lap eight.  Britt raced ahead of the field while Peck held off the challenges of Gary Hieber for second.  Britt again picked up the win over Peck, Hieber, Justin Lilick and Jeremy Harrington.  Britt, Hieber and Harrington finished in the top five in both feature events.

Jeramy Doerr was a mad on a mission as he took the lead on the first lap and drove to the win in the PennCo Tech Outlaw Stocks without a challenge, picking up his fourth win of the season.  The action was all about the runner-up spot that was finally secured by Tom Wills, Sr. after a battle with Jeff Dirkes and Tom Wills, Jr.  Wills, Jr. finished third followed by Dirkes and Joe Meron.

After a first lap collision between Bryan Olsen and Roger Gaskill, it was all Steven Kemery in the D.A.’s Auto Body & Repair Rookie feature.  Kemery captured his fourth win of the season with Tom Holding taking second followed by Bryan Olsen.

Racing action resumes next weekend with the quarter mile on Friday night with 270cc & 600cc Micro Sprints and 8 Cylinder Enduros.  Race time is 8pm.  The TSRS Sprints return on Saturday with the Big Block Modifieds, Crate/Sportsman, Outlaw Stocks and Rookies with racing getting underway at 7pm.

LAUBACH, KRESSLEY & WILLS, SR ARE ACES IN BRIDGEPORT POKER SERIES

LAUBACH, KRESSLEY & WILLS, SR ARE ACES IN BRIDGEPORT POKER SERIES

Rick Laubach has always said that he likes more laps in the Bridgeport Big Block Modified feature events and he proved his point by picking up the win in the forty lap, All in at the Port – the second hand in the 2015 Poker Series.  It’s a pair of Aces for Brett Kressley as he picked up his second Poker Series win in the Crate/Sportsman division.  Tom Wills, Sr. made it win number three on the 2015 season as led the field of Outlaw Stocks to the checkered flag and Roger Gaskill became the fourth different winner in the Rookie Division as he picked up his first win of the season.

A game of musical chairs with some willing young fans determined the starting line-up for the Spirit Dodge Big Block Modifieds that resulted in Duane Howard and David Hunt getting the call to lead the starting line-up to the green flag.  It was Sammy Piazza who raced from his third place starting spot to take the lead on the start.  Piazza set a torrid pace and pulled away from the field as Howard ran second for the first two laps before Ryan Watt took over on lap three after racing from his seventh place start.

Piazza led through lap twenty-four when he headed to the pits for a tire change.  Watt took over at that point and he, too, distanced himself from the competition as Howard, Ryan Anderson, Jamie Mills and Laubach made up the top five in running order.

Laubach began to pick his way through the top five during the final ten laps.  He had just raced his way into second on lap thirty-four when Watt drew a caution and headed to the pits for some fresh rubber.  It all went Laubach’s way as the 2014 Poker Champion raced to the checkered flag for his third Bridgeport win of the season.  Howard finished second in Glenn Hynneman’s #126 with Jamie Mills running third at the checkered.  Ryan Anderson had another strong Poker Series outing as his fourth place finish earned him a pair of Jacks.  Wade Hendrickson raced the C&S Equipment #6 to a top five finish.

Rookie driver, Steven Kemery took the lead from his pole position start in the Stewart Stainless Crate/Sportsman feature event and led the first four laps of the twenty-five lap main event.  Orefield, PA driver, Brett Kressley took over on lap five and picked up where he left off on his last visit to the Bridgeport Speedway.  Jim Britt made an inside move to challenge Kressley but fell short as Kressley collected his second Poker Series win of the season for a pair of Aces.  Britt finished second with Kemery in third for the best finish by a rookie so far this season.  Mike Hendershot finished fourth with Brad Roberts rounding out the top five at the checkered.

Tom Wills, Sr. continued his winning ways as he picked up his second win in the PennCo Tech Outlaw Stocks.  Scott Dugan led the first four laps of the twenty lap feature event before Wills, Sr. took over on lap five.  Wills, Sr. led Ron Frees, Dugan, Brian Ludwig and Tom Wills, Jr. to the checkered flag to collect his first Ace of the Poker Series.  Frees’ second place run earned his a second King for a pair in just the second hand.

Roger Gaskill became the fourth different winner in the D.A.’s Auto Body and Repair Rookie division as he took the lead from Bryan Olsen on the first lap.  Gaskill led all the way to the checkered as Olsen finished second, followed by Kemery, JR Burritt and Tom Holding.

IT’S ALL IN AT THE PORT!

Poker Series Hand #2 on Memorial Day Weekend

Cut the deck and deal out the cards!  It’s time for the second hand of the 2015 Poker Series at the Bridgeport Speedway!  It’s “All in at the Port” for hand #2 on Sunday, May 24th with racing getting underway at 7pm

Ryan Godown, Brett Kressley and Jeramy Doerr each collected an ace for their respective wins during the first hand of the Poker Series during the Bridgeport Speedway season opener back in March.  While both Kressley and Doerr led their feature events from lap two, Godown had just raced his way into second with Bill Hewlett’s #901 when leader, Stewart Friesen headed to the pits for a tire change.  Godown drove the remaining distance to take the win over defending 2014 Poker Series Champion, Rick Laubach, Dominick Buffalino, Ryan Anderson and Richie Pratt, Jr.   History has shown that’s its not always the aces that win in the end but the most consistent performance!

Beginning with Hand #2, the Bridgeport Speedway will adopt the system used by many other racing series.  A $10 entry fee will be charged for each car entered in the event in the Big Block Modifieds, Crate/Sportsman and Outlaw Stocks with the entry fee going directly to the point fund to be awarded at season’s end.

Fans who arrive early will be able to meet drivers, Ryan Godown, Mike Hendershot and Billy Wroble.  There will be music provided by Whiskey Glen for your listening pleasure throughout the night.  As always, there is the moon bounce and giant slide for the kids.  The Bridgeport Bandit will be on hand and would welcome you to ride the Bandit Bus that makes frequent trips into the pit area where you can watch the drivers prepare for the night’s competition.

Iles, LaMothe, Reinhardt and King take Bridgeport Checkered

Iles, LaMothe, Reinhardt and King take Bridgeport Checkered

Mike Iles won the second round of the “Romp in the Swamp” 811 Dig Safely Open-Comp Modifieds on the Bridgeport Speedway quarter mile.  Sam LaMothe and Tyler Reinhardt won their first features of 2015 in the wingless 600cc Micro Sprints and 270cc Micro Sprints and Joe King, Jr. remain undefeated in the ServPro Four Cylinder Enduro division.

Iles grabbed the lead from Ryan Forte and easily won the 25-lap Modified feature event.  Forte led the opening three laps of the contest before Iles took command.  John Cornell finished third at the checkered flag followed by Richie Pratt, Jr. and Jimmy Horton.

LaMothe took the lead from his outside front row starting position from Rob Vivona on the opening lap.  Bill Thomas and Andrew Locuson passed Vivona for second and third when he drove off the lip of the backstretch on lap five.  Lee Nardelli passed Mike Fillbrunn for fifth just passed the halfway point.  LaMothe led all 20-laps of the feature to record his first win.  Vivona recovered from his excursion to finish second followed by Thomas, Nardelli and Andrew Locuson.

Tyler Reinhardt broke his early season drought by winning the 20-lap feature event for the 270cc Micro Sprints.  Reinhardt jumped out to the lead from his outside front row starting position but a caution on lap 9 caught the field up to his bumper.  On the restart, sophomore driver Sean Huesser took the lead away from Reinhardt.  Huesser began to pull away from Reinhardt over the next few laps then Reinhardt got back into rhythm and caught up and passed Huesser for the win.  Huesser held onto second with Lee Reinhardt, Dana LaMothe and Rich Keller completing the top five.

Joe King, Jr. won his fourth Four Cylinder Enduro event of the season over Michael Bentley, Chris Sammons, Keith McKinley and Laura John.

RAIN SHORTENS BRIDGEPORT PROGRAM

RAIN SHORTENS BRIDGEPORT PROGRAM

The D.A. Auto Body & Repair Rookies and PennCo Tech Outlaw Stocks had completed their feature events.  The Stewart Stainless Crate/Sportsman had just taken the green flag but the action came in to a quick halt with one lap scored when a multi-car incident on the backstretch brought out the caution and then the red flag.  And then, the rain came!   The Bridgeport Speedway management team did everything in their power to deliver a complete show to their loyal fans but Mother Nature refused to cooperate.

Steve Kemmery picked up his third win of the season with a last lap pass by race leader, Bryan Olsen.  Olsen led the first seven laps of the feature event but got out of shape while executing turn two on the final lap.  Kemmery had closed in on the leader and was able to move quickly by Olsen on the inside to take then lead and drive on to the checkered flag.  Roger Gaskill picked up second as the field came down the homestretch.  Olsen finished third followed by Tom Holding and Jonathan John.

The PennCo Tech Outlaw Stock feature again, came right down to the wire as Tom Wills, Jr., Brian Ludwig and Tom Wills, Sr. contested the win to the checkered flag.  Wills, Jr. led the first six laps before Ludwig took over on lap seven.  Ludwig led through lap ten.  Wills, Jr. and 3 time winner, Jeramy Doerr, raced for the lead on lap eleven but Doerr got out of shape in turn four one lap later.  Ludwig slid by to lead the field to the green on the restart.  Ludwig and Tom Wills, Sr. battled side by side on lap twelve before Wills, Jr. slid by to retake the lead on the inside.  Wills, Jr. led the way to the checkered flag for his first win of the season.  Ludwig bested Wills, Sr. for second with Ed Bishchoff finishing fourth.  Jim Avery rounded out the top five.

The Stewart Stainless Crate/Sportsman were led to the start by Melissa Scarpatti and Nick Nicotra but it was Scott Hulmes who quickly moved out in front to take the lead from his third place start.  Hulmes raced to the line to complete lap one with 2014 Bridgeport Rookie Champion, Matthew Peck racing wheel to wheel for the top spot.  A multi-car incident on the backstretch saw Kevin Belmont take a wild flip on the backstretch bringing out the caution and then the red flag.  With the cars stopped on the track, the safety crew was on the scene when the rains came.  Belmont was not injured.   The field was then sent to the pits and the decision was made to cancel the rest of the show due to all of the rain in the area.

The rained out Crate/Sportsman feature will be added to the Saturday night show on May 30th.  Fans will see a complete show of Big Block Modifieds, Crate/Sportsman, Outlaw Stocks and Rookies plus the rained out Crate/Sportsman feature event all for the low price of $15.  The rained out Big Block Modified Feature event will be run in conjunction with the June 13th show, again for the low admission price of $15.

The rain prevented six lucky boys and girls from winning brand new bicycles on Saturday night.  The next Bridgeport Bike Night is scheduled for June 20th when a total of ten bicycles will be given away.  All bikes are donated by Bridgeport drivers for these events.

FIRST BIKE NIGHT OF 2015 SEASON AT BRIDGEPORT

The first of four Bike Nights will take place at the Bridgeport Speedway on Saturday, May 16th.  All motorcycle riders will be admitted free and prizes will be awarded to the top bikes.  There will also be Bike Giveaways for the kids!

All this on top of a full slate of stock car racing with the Spirit Dodge Big Block Modifieds, Stewart Stainless Crate/Sportsman, PennCo Tech Outlaw Stocks and D.A.’s Auto Body & Repair Rookies.  The Bridgeport Speedway is the only dirt track in New Jersey where racing fans can still see the mighty Big Block Modifieds!

The new clay surface has produced some fast action and highly competitive races during the first weeks of the season.

Three different drivers have captured Big Block Feature event wins since the 2015 point season began.  Rick Laubach, Jamie Mills and Ryan Watt each have one win to their credit in this year’s point chase while drivers like Dominck Buffalino, Wade Hendrickson, Sam Martz, Richie Pratt, Jr. and others are looking for their first wins of the season.  Laubach also picked up the win in the South Jersey Shootout before the regular Bridgeport season got underway.

Pat Wall has won twice in the Crate/Sportsman action with Kris Lilick picking up his first win of the season this week.  Drivers like CJ Jones, Jim Britt, Steve Searock and Bob Lilick have been close but not able to get to the checkered flag first during the first three weeks of the season.

The Outlaw Stocks have produced finishes that come right down to the wire every week with Brian Ludwig, Tom Wills, Sr. and Jeff Dirkes picking up wins after Jermay Doerr’s domination during the special shows.  Steven Kemery has been the only driver to repeat in the Rookie action to date as Tom Tanner and Tom Holding also have wins to their credit.

In addition to the action on the track, the Bridgeport Bandit welcomes fans to ride the Bandit Bus and view the competitors up close as they prepare for the night’s racing action.  There’s plenty of activity all night long with a great selection of concession and novelty stands, a Bounce House, musical entertainment and free giveaways every race night!

Saturday night action will get underway at 6:30pm.

The quarter mile track will host the open modifieds in addition to the 270 & 600cc Micro Sprints and 4 Cylinder Enduro cars on Friday night. Friday night action gets underway at 8pm.

Bob Drayton was the winner of the first open modified show on the quarter mile as the competitors prepare for the big 811 Dig Safely event, Romp in the Swamp, that will pay $10,000 to the winner on September 28th.

Lee Nardelli has been a repeat winner in the 600cc Micro Sprints while the 270cc Micro Sprint action has been dominated by Jay Hartman and Joe King has been the man to beat in the 3 Cylinder Enduro cars.
