LAUBACH, HITCHENS & WILLS, SR. ARE THREE NEWEST WINNERS AT BRIDGEPORT MOTORSPORTS PARK

Bridgeport, NJ – Week three of the 2020 racing season produced more great side by side racing as well as three new winners on a night of racing sponsored by the Delaware Auto Exchange!

Rick Laubach took the checkered flag in the Foley Cat Modifed feature that saw several drivers contend for the lead throughout the thirty lap feature event.  Delaware’s Scott Hitchens achieved something that he has been trying to do for several seasons  – win at the Bridgeport Speedway as he led the way to the finish line in the South Jersey Overhead Door 602 Sportsman feature event.  Tom Wills, Sr. raced to his first win in the Sunbelt Rental Street Stocks – his first win since the 2015 season.  The DA’s Auto Body & Repair Rookies raced for the first time this season with Anthony Sisco capturing the win.

Two other divisions made special appearances in the Sunday evening show.  The All Star Slingshots had their first afternoon matinee as they completed their qualifying events on the Spirit Speedway quarter mile before hot laps got underway for the new 4/10th mile track.  Then they got to run their feature event in front of the Sunday evening crowd – many of whom have probably not ever seen a Slingshot event.  Oley, PA driver, Brett Bieber took home the win in his first appearance on the revamped quarter mile.  The 4 Cylinder competitors completed the race card with Justin Dunn taking the lead from his dad and then going on to pick up the win.  Six feature events and the entire show was completed in just over three and a half hours!

Rick Laubach demonstrated that a Big Block Modified can win on the new 4/10th mile surface.  Laubach picked up the win in the Hermann No. 7.  Laubach raced the Small Block car just a week ago but found the Big Block much more to his liking.  “I’m a big block guy.  The small block just isn’t right for me,” Laubach explained.

It was Alex Yankowski who set the pace for much of the race in what was his first appearance at the new Bridgeport track.  Yankowski drew the outside pole for his starting position and immediately grabbed the lead at the start of the race.  Yankowski pulled away from the field as the feature went for twenty-two green flag laps before the caution waved for Jeff Strunk who slowed on the speedway.  Yankowski restarted from inside the front row, electing to use the inside for the restart.  Richie Pratt, Jr. grabbed the lead on the start but it was Laubach who charged ahead in turn three while Yankowski battled with Billy Pauch for third.  With six laps to go, Ryan Watt was racing just outside of the top five but a few laps later, Watt was mounting a challenge for the lead.

At the end of thirty laps, it was Laubach who led the way to the checkered over Watt, Pauch, opening day winner, Ryan Godown and last week’s winner, Tim Buckwalter.  Craig VonDohren finished sixth ahead of Ryan Krachun, Matt Stangle, Neal Williams and Louden Reimert.  Yankowksi’s night ended just four laps from the finish.

2019 Track Champion, Matt Peck led the 602 Sportsman from the wave of the green.  Peck led the way until through fourteen laps until Steve Kemery took over with five laps to go.  Hitchens raced side by side with Kemery for the lead on lap fifteen and pulled ahead just one lap later.

Hitchens picked up the win over Kemery, Peck, Wayne Weaver and Ryan Godown, Jr.  Joe Toth finished sixth followed by Brad Roberts, last week’s winner, Ryan Anderson, Eric Kormman and Tom Errico, Jr.

Tom Wills, Sr was behind the wheel of his old No. 57 – now owned by Joslin Motorsports.  Wills, Sr. led every lap of the fifteen laps but he had a lot of pressure coming from a former Street Stock Champion, Ron Frees who was driving the No. 70 for Doug DeBray and Lee Allen who raced in second or third for much of the race.

Wills, Sr. took the popular win over Allen, Tom Wills, Jr., Jeff Dirkes and Rich Stinson, Jr.  Frees dropped back to seventh after making contact with the wall on the final lap.

Anthony Sisco picked up the win in the first Rookie feature of the season over Harry Houdini, Tim Borror, George Piutz and Bill Schorr.

Brett Bieber made his first Bridgeport appearance of the season count as he picked up the win in the Slingshot matinee followed by CJ Fritz, Michael Beckett, Ryan Davey and Ryan Harris.

Justin Dunn was the 4 Cylinder winner over Neil Rutt, Scott Dunn, Mike Fox and Joe Garey, Sr.

Action returns to the Bridgeport Motorsports Park this Saturday with the Modifieds, 602 Sportsman, Street Stocks, Rookies, 8 Cylinders and the Mid Atlantic Sprint Series with racing getting underway at 7pm.

BUCKWALTER WINS A THRILLER AT BRIDGEPORT’S MOTORSPORTS PARK

Bridgeport, NJ – The new 4/10th mile speedway at Bridgeport’s Motorsports Park presented four divisions of racing for the second show of the 2020 season and it was just as exciting as the first as Tim Buckwalter picked up the win in the All American 40 for the Foley Cat Modifieds after a three car battle for the lead that saw Ryan Godown, Ryan Watt and Buckwalter running high, running low and everywhere in between as they jockeyed for position.  Ryan Anderson picked up the win in the South Jersey Overhead Door 602 Sportsman.  Former track champion, TJ Henry returned to victory in the Sunbelt Rental Street Stock division and Davey Franek won the fourth and final race of the night as he captured the Capitol Renegade United Racing Club sprint car feature.

That’s seven feature events in just two races with seven different winners!  And this four division show was completed by 10:40PM – less than four hours since the 7pm start time!

When Ryan Godown drew the pole for the Modified feature event there were many who thought that the race was over before it started after Godown’s dominating performance one week earlier.  But there were other drivers who had other ideas!

Godown led through halfway but by that time Buckwalter was in his tracks and Ryan Watt was looking to make it a three car battle for the lead.  The three drivers used every line they could find as the wheeled around the new 4/10th track.  High, low and everything in between until Buckwalter secured the lead on lap twenty-seven.  Watt passed Godown to take second just on lap later.

The leaders were met with heavy lapped traffic but Buckwalter didn’t seem to be phased.  He raced to the win in the Saxton Motorsports No. 23x – the third of the season for this team.  Watt finished second followed by Godown, Jeff Strunk and Craig VonDohren.  Frank Cozze finished sixth after running in the top five, followed by Richie Pratt, Jr., Briggs Danner, Matt Stangle and Ryan Krachun.

Ryan Anderson waited until the final laps of the South Jersey Overhead Door 602 Sportsman feature to take the lead from Wayne Weaver.  Weaver and Joe Toth had dueled for the lead in the early going before Weaver took command of the top spot.

Anderson got the win over Weaver, last week’s winner, Steve Kemery, Toth and Ryan Godown, Jr. Tom Moore, Jr. Sean Metz, Brad Roberts, Kris Lilick and Matt Peck completed the top ten at the finish.

Former track champion, TJ Henry returned to try his hand on the new speedway and came away with the win in the Sunbelt Rentals Street Stock feature event.  Henry raced with Lee Allen for many laps before he was able to secure the position.  Allen finished second followed by Brian Ludwig, Mike Creamer and John Parker.

Davie Franek took the lead away from Paulie Colagiovanni and never looked back to capture the main event for URC sprint cars.  Anthony Macri finished third behind the wheel of the Chris Dyson No. 20 wrenched by Sean Michael.  Troy Betts finished fourth with Steve Buckwalter rounding out the top five in the Lilick No. 7.  Adam Carberry fihished sixth, followed by Tyler Ross and Ryan Watt, Josh Weller and Austin Bishop.  Watt did double duty on Sunday and had fast time in pre-race action with URC.

Bridgeport action stays on Sunday night this week with the start of the 2020 season points.  The Modifieds, 602 Sportsman and Street Stocks will all compete in qualifying events and features with racing getting underway at 7pm.  Everybody is talking about this track!  You have to see it for yourself to believe it!

BRIDGEPORT MOTORSPORTS PARK OPENING IS A HUGE SUCCESS

Bridgeport, NJ – It finally happened.  After months of construction and preparation The Bridgeport Motorsports Park – The Kingdom of Speed – opened its gates for the delayed 2020 season opener.  All three divisions – The Foley Cat Modifieds, South Jersey Overhead Door 602 Sportsman and Sunbelt Rental Street Stocks – provided plenty of side by side action, three and four abreast racing with multiple groove racing from the first green flag to the final checkered.

Doug Rose’s plan for a reconfigured, banked speedway that would be smaller than the former 5/8th mile track, received mixed reactions from fans and competitors alike but the doubts were put aside with the great racing action provided by the brand new racing surface on Sunday.
Ryan Godown took the win in the Foley Cat Modifieds, holding off the challenges of Rick Laubach and then Richie Pratt Jr. who chased Godown across the finish line.  Godown and Laubach had traded the lead briefly before Godown put his Searock No. 26 out in front for good.
Trailing Godown and Pratt to the checkered were Danny Bouc in the Short Load No. 32, Laubach in the Hermann No 7 and Briggs Danner in his family owned No. 78.  Billy Pauch, Jr., Ryan Watt, Craig VonDohren, Ryan Krachun and Davey Sammons completed the top ten at the end of thirty laps.
Steve Kemery picked up the win in the South Jersey Overhead Door 602 Crate Sportsman feature event, starting off the season just as he did last year by winning the opening day race.
Scott Hitchens pressured Kemery throughout the race and actually took the lead just before the halfway mark.  Hitchens led lap nine and ten before Kemery regained the top spot.  Hitchens went on to finish second behind Kemery with Ryan Anderson finishing third.  Sean Metz chose the line around the bottom of the race track and made it work for a fourth place finish ahead of Joe Toth in fifth.  Tom Moore, Jr., Ricky Wegner, Jr., Brad Roberts, 2019 Champion, Matt Peck and Johnny Bangs picked up top ten finishes in the season opener.
Rich Stinson, Jr. took advantage of a lap six restart to take the lead from 2019 Champion, Tom Wills, Jr. in the Sunbelt Rentals Street Stock feature event.  The top three cars – Stinson, Wills, Jr., and Lee Allen – kept it interesting through the fifteen lap event with Wills and Allen staying within striking range of Stinson.  There was an ongoing battle taking place behind the leaders as Vern McLaughlin, Jeff Dirkes and Mike Hughes, Jr. battled for the fourth spot.  McLaughlin won the position, taking fourth over Hughes who finished fifth.  Dirkes, Tom Wills, Sr., Mick Search, Justin Nowlen and Nick Sandone III finished sixth through tenth.
Action returns to the Kingdom of speed on Sunday, July 5th for the All American 40 – a forty lap feature event for the Foley Cat Modifieds.  The United Racing Club 360 Sprint Cars will be the first sprint cars to compete on the new track and will join the four division show that will also feature the South Jersey Overhead Door 602 Sportsman and Sunbelt Rental Street Stocks.  Grandstand seating will be limited to tickets sold prior to the event to maintain limits set by the governor.  Pit gates will open at 3pm with the grandstand gates opening at 5pm,  warm-ups at 6pm and the first green flag of the night at 7pm.

Bridgeport Motorsports Park Going Green!

Swedesboro, NJ – As the COVID 19 pandemic continues, Bridgeport Motorsports Park is ready to go GREEN. The renovations have been completed and some finishing touches are being put on. Once the restrictions are lifted, we will see the first Green Flag fall that weekend.

“Ray Carroll and I have been discussing how we want to continue with the season once the restrictions are lifted”, said Rose. “With all the uncertainty out there, we have decided on a 2 stage plan. When the governor allows businesses to reopen and if there are no occupancy restrictions, we will open that coming Saturday with a regular show of Modifieds, 602 Sportsman, and Street Stocks and will continue with the current schedule thereafter. If the green light for businesses to reopen has an occupancy restriction, depending on the number, we will open with a practice that Saturday on the big track for all divisions of big cars and that Sunday on the 1/4 mile track for all divisions of small cars.”

We encourage all race teams to be ready and prepared to hit the track, the Green Flag will soon be waving.

American Racer Tires are available at the Speedway and are going quickly. You can reach us on facebook messenger or email Doug at [email protected] to confirm someone will be there for you to pick up tires.

We are all anxious to get the green flag at Bridgeport Motorsports Park and we encourage all racers and race fans to come check out the new facility. It is insane!

Keep up to date with Bridgeport Motorsports Park at www.BPSpeedway.com and on Facebook under Bridgeport Speedway.

COVID-19 UPDATE!!!

We have been in communication with the NJ Government Agencies regarding the restrictions imposed on the state of NJ. We all feel it is the best interest of our teams, fans, and staff to put a hold on all events for this weekend and until we and the state feels it is safe to resume events at the Speedway.

We will continue to keep you updated on all social media and our website for a revised beginning of the year schedule.

We are all anxious to see and compete on the new “Kingdom of Speed” at Bridgeport Motorsports Park, but our safety must come first. We will see you all soon.

Bridgeport Speedway To Pay Up To $1000 Weekly To 602 Sportsman

Bridgeport, NJ – With the start of the 2020 season around the corner, Bridgeport Speedway has been dilligently peparing for the upcoming season.  From creating a brand new race track, to securing essential sponsorships, to filling in key employee roles, to coming up with ways to make Bridgeport even more appealing to the race teams, track owner Doug Rose and his team has been hard at work for the past four months.

Doug Rose had the following to say; “The Ramey family was gracious enough to allow Brittany and I to follow along last year and watch their weekly operation. When doing so, the plans were to roll into the 2020 season trying to keep things as much the same as possible knowing that their formula over the last seven years was a success stated rose.”

“Danny Serrano and I have been bouncing around the idea of doing something with the 602 Sportsman payout while not trying to put ourselves in a position not to succeed.”

“We’ve sat down a couple times looking at different scenarios and what we could do or not do and still feel it would be safe for the well-being of the speedway.”

“With the number of drivers that we feel Will be competing at the speedway in 2020 for the weekly point shows we feel comfortable making a couple concrete changes while putting a twist in there to compensate the drivers when we have excellent car counts for the South Jersey Overhead Door 602 Sportsman.”

“We have decided to add three things to all points shows at Bridgeport Motorsports Park in 2020.  We will be offering a tiered weekly payout with the base pay being the normal pay that the Ramey Family has been using which will be for 29 cars and under which has paid $500 to win with now $75 to take the green which has been raised since 2019.

When we have 30 plus cars we will bump up to the next purse, which will see the winner receive 750 to win with additional positions receiving extra purse money as well.  On top of this purse adjustment, we are going to add in a gamblers program, which will add an additional $250 to the win regardless if we are over or under the 30 cars.  So, on a weekly basis a driver who chooses to take the gamblers will be racing weekly for 750 or $1000 to win.  We feel that this is huge for the growth of the 602 Sportsman division.”

The non-point shows at Bridgeport will pay substantially more than the weekly purse; i.e. the winner of the “Kingdom of Speed Weekend” could possibly go home with $1,500!  March 21 will serve as the track’s ‘practice day’ with the following weekend being the grand opening for the 2020 season.  For more information please log on the track’s website www.bpspeedway.com or follow them on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.  Fans and drivers can also reach the Speedway at 856-467-4408 or email at [email protected]

BRIDGEPORT MOTORSPORTS PARK GEARING UP FOR 2020 WITH MOTORSPORTS EXPO

Bridgeport, NJ – The all new Bridgeport Motorsports Park will be at this weekend’s Motorsports Expo in Oaks, PA January 17-19. New ownership of the multi-track facility was finalized with the turning of the calendar year and new owners Doug & Brittany Rose and team have been hard at work since the final checkered flag waved back in November.

“We literally have been working on so many things here since Monday morning, November 11,” Rose explained. “From the construction of the new track, the reconfiguration of the 1/4 mile track, painting all the buildings, renovating the concession stand, updating all the 2020 rules, selling billboards, to designing brand new racing apparel, you name it we’ve been hard at work,” added Rose.

“I’m excited, my wife Brittany’s and son Brady is excited, our staff is excited, drivers and fans are too. It’s definitely a huge undertaking but, it will all be worth it when the final product is unveiled in a couple of months! A fan stopped by the track today and was curious to see what was going on, as are most people. He told me that he was very apprehensive about losing the 5/8 and thought it was going to be a bad move. BUT, after he walked up to the track he said ‘Holy *hit, this is going to be great!’. Everyone that has been able to see the work that’s been put in, has been extremely impressed. Just wait till we get race cars on it, I say!”

Rose, along with track manager Danny Serrano, tech inspector Ray Carroll, office manager Kate Raively, along with many of the other speedway employees will be on hand to meet and greet the race teams and fans throughout the entire weekend at Motorsports. All the official paperwork and forms will be available at Bridgeport Motorsports Park’s booth. Brand new ‘2020’ schedules that include events for the World of Outlaws, Super DIRTcar Series, both USAC sprints and midgets, Short Track Super Series, and Monster Truck Showdown, along with 2019 dvds, and hot off the press ‘2020’ racing apparel. Thanks to Bob Hilbert Sportswear, there will be three, yes three new t-shirt/hoodie designs for everyone to add to their collection (two year-long designs and a Kingdom of Speed event design)…fans should get theirs’ before opening day on March 28!

’19 Track champion Tom Wills Jr. will be representing the Street Stocks with his always sharp-looking No. 856. Richie Pratt Jr. will have the beautiful Danny Sommeling-owned No. 51 modified on display as well, and the 1/4 mile will be well represented by the Ed Barber-Spirit sponsored No. 99B 600 micro sprint.

Everyone at Bridgeport is looking forward to an exciting and unforgettable 2020 season. However, Motorsports is the first on the checklist this coming weekend. For more information on the Expo, please log onto www.aarn.com.
