KYLE REINHARDT PLEASES THE JERSEY CROWD WITH BRIDGEPORT OCTOBERFEST WIN

Bridgeport, NJ – The third time was the charm!

It was for Kyle Reinhardt anyway!  In his third 410 Sprint Car race of the 2023 season at the Bridgeport Motorsports Park, Reinhardt wheeled the Capitol Custom Trailers & Coaches No. 91 to victory and a $15,000 payday in front of a large crowd that was only too pleased to see the “hometown” guy pick up the win in his home state.

In just his second race back behind the wheel, Alex Bright raced to the win in the Rapid Tire/Capitol Renegade USAC East Coast Wingless Sprint Car feature event over 2023 USAC East Coast Champion, Briggs Danner.

Neal Williams became the first three-time winner in the Danny’s Pizza Pizzazz Modifieds as he raced to the win over Joseph Watson.

Bridgeport’s Octoberfest, sponsored by Professional Design Services, was a huge hit!  There was something for every race fan’s interest on the two-day program.  All divisions were well represented in car count as well as talent.  The weather was fantastic – shirt sleeves at the end of October!  Trick or Treat for the kids!  It was great weekend of racing.  Bridgeport’s Doug Rose was more than satisfied with the outcome.  “This race was not a successful event for us last year,” Rose related.  “We made some changes to the program, had great weather and cheered for the Diamondbacks,” Rose said with a chuckle.  Last year’s event ran against the Philadelphia Phillies in the World Series.

Kyle Reinhardt finished second behind Tyler Courtney in the All Star Circuit of Champions race in spring and then picked up a top five during the High Limit event earlier this month.  On Saturday night, Reinhardt was the class of the field.

Anthony Macri, Reinhardt and Tyler Ross set fast time during the three timed sessions on Friday night, earning transfer spots for Saturday night’s main event.  F&L Door heat races were won by Justin Peck, Tyler Ross and Pauli Colagiovanni.  Peck raced to the win in the three lap dash to earn the pole for the feature event.  Reinhardt’s runner-up finish put on the outside of the front row.

Peck and Reinhardt battled for the lead on the start of the thirty-five lap main event with Reinhardt pulling ahead of Peck as the two drivers headed down the backstretch.  Macri, Colagiovanni and Dietrich chased the leader through the first few laps.

Macri’s race came to an end after contact on lap nine for the first caution of the race.  On the restart, Reinhardt led the way over Peck and Colagiovanni and Devon Borden who battled for third while Dietrich ran in fifth.

Justin Whittall raced into the top five just before halfway but then needed the caution on lap nineteen when he got turned around between turns three and four.  The yellow went to an open red to allow the field to take on fuel.

When the field went back to green flag racing, Reinhardt led the way as Dietrich took over second followed by Peck, Freddie Rahmer and Tyler Ross who started from the rear of the field after having trouble getting the No. 5 to fire for the start of the race.

Reinhardt was able to stretch his lead in the remaining laps, taking the win over Dietrich, Peck, Ross and Rahmer.  Cameron Smith finished sixth followed by Dylan Norris, Devon Borden, Kyle Spence and Ricky DiEva.

“I love racing here,” Reinhardt exclaimed following his win.  “I love racing in New Jersey.  This track is realy bad-ass fast!”  Reinhardt had a lot of friends and family in attendance.  Some of Reinhardt’s biggest challenges came from the lapped cars in the late stages of the race.  “I hit two of them,” Reinhardt explained.  “They were everywhere!”

When racing in traffic, both Dietrich and Peck were able to close in on the leader.  “Traffic really makes for better racing,” Dietrich explained.  “Clean air is such an advantage.”

Alex Bright returned to competition for the final two races on the USAC East Coast schedule after recovering from injuried sustained in a racing accident in Indiana earlier this year.  With a titanium plate and a number of screws, doctors were able to put his shattered wrist together and Bright is clearly not hampered by the injury.

Bright led every lap of the twenty-five lap main event for the wingless sprints.  Kenny Miller III raced in second from lap two until lap sixteen when Briggs Danner arrived on the scene, racing from his ninth place start.  Bright was long gone, well out of Danner’s vision with just nine laps to go but by the time the checkered flag waved, Danner had closed the gap and was racing just a handful of car lengths behind the feature winner.

Miller regained third in the final laps over Joey Amantea who finished fourth.  Tim Buckwalter in the Rodota Trucking/Lotier No. 20 rounded out the top five.  Three time USAC EC Champion, Steven Drevicki finished sixth followed by Mike Thompson, J.T. Ferry, Bobby Butler and Preston Lattomus.

Danner’s second place finish was more than enough to earn the Allentown, PA driver his second USAC EC Wingless Sprint Championship as well as the owner’s title for Hogue Racing.

F&L USAC EC heats were won by Joe Amantea and Alex Bright.

Neal Williams raced to his third win of the season in the New Jersey Overhead Door No. 0.  Not only did the win make Williams the winningest Bridgeport competitor this season, but his third win came on his first we.  dding anniversary with his wife, Sarah.

Davey Sammons and Joseph Watson led the field to the start of the twenty-five lap Modified feature.  On the original start, the caution was needed quickly as Billy Osmun III, Jim Gallagher and David Crossman were involved in a tangle.  On the complete restart, Watson took the lead and led Williams, Rick Laubach, Sammons and Dominick Buffalino through lap five.

The caution waved again on lap six when Clay Butler got out of shape in turn three.  Watson held off Williams’ challenge on the restart as Sammons raced in third over Laubach and Cale Ross.

Williams stayed right with Watson has they continued to race around the High Banks.  The field was slowed on lap eighteen when Osmun came to a stop in turn two.  Watson elected the outside on the restart and got out ahead of the field.  The cars of Williams, Laubach, Sammons and HJ Bunting were racing hard coming out of turn four on the restart.  Everyone made it down the homestretch but damage on the Hermann No. 7 caused Laubach to come to a stop in turn two.  Laubach headed to the pits as did Sammons under the caution.

On this restart, Williams raced Watson down the homestretch and into the turn.  As the field headed down the backstretch, Williams moved out in front to take the lead.  Williams led the rest of the way to the checkered flag to collect the win over Watson, Bunting, Dillon Steuer and Buffalino.  Ross finished sixth followed by Wade Hendrickson, Sammy Martz, Jr., Sam Martz, Sr., Jimmy Gallagher and 2023 Track Champion, Jordan Watson.

Williams expressed to thanks to the many people who made up the No. 0 and made this season successful.  It was Williams’ final race of the 2023 season as he and Sarah head out on vacation this week.

F& L Door Modified heats were won by Sammy Martz, Jr., Rick Laubach and Cale Ross.

NAGY WINS THE RACE AND THE BRIDGEPORT 305 SPRINT TITLE

Bridgeport, NJ – It wasn’t the way it was supposed to be.  Friday nightwas supposed to be the first of a two day event – Bridgeport’s first 305 Nationals – the combined effort of Bridgeport’s Doug Rose and the Mid Atlantic Sprint Series’ Eddie and Erika Wagner.  But, as she has done so many times this season, Mother Nature intervened.

With heavy rain expected for Saturday and into Sunday, the decision was made to race on Friday night and complete as much of the program as possible.  The DCB’s Plumbing & Heating Mid Atlantic Sprint Series (MASS) would run a complete show along with the North East Wingless Sprints (NEWS) and the Precision Hydraulic and Oil 602 Sportsman in an Underdog 20 feature event.

All State Auto Glass, SJ Truck Bodies and Miranda Motors jumped on board to enhance the purse for the 305 sprint cars and the race was on!  Thirty-five 305 sprint cars were on hand for the Friday night show!

Adam Carberry raced to the D Capps Carpentry fast time in timed hot laps just one week after picking up the win in the MASS feature event at Bridgeport.  Ryan Stillwaggon, Kevin Nagy, 2023 MASS Champion, Buddy Schweibinz and Eddie Wagner picked up wins in the F&L Door heat races while Christian Rumsey raced to the win in the B Main.

The luck of the draw put Stillwaggon and Nagy on the front row for the start of the twenty-five lap feature event.  Stillwaggon grabbed the lead on the start as Nagy, Dave Grube, Larry McVay and Eddie Wagner sorted out the top five through the first five times around the High Banks.

Nick Sweigert’s smoking No. 89 out the caution for the first time on lap seven.  Nagy took the lead on the restart and Stillwaggon chased him down the backstretch but Nagy held the lead.  McVay, Adam Carberry and Grube chased the lead pair through lap ten.

McVay took over second on a lap twelve restart and offered up a challenge for the lead but Nagy was able to pull away from McVay and the rest of the field after several green flag laps.  Carberry took over third as Wagner and Brian Carber battled for a top five spot at halfway.

Carber slowed on lap nineteen as 2023 MASS Champion, Buddy Schweibinz broke into the top five with just over five laps to go.

2023 MASS Champion, Buddy Schweibinz broke into the top five in the final laps of the race.  Nagy pulled away but second through fifth place were up for grabs as the field headed to the finish line.

Nagy took the win with Carberry racing into second over McVay, Schweibinz and Andy Best in the final laps.

Coming into Friday night’s race, Nagy and Tim Iulg were in a battle for the Tanner Brothers Dairy Bridgeport Point Championship which Nagy secured with his third victory of the season.  This is the second season that the Tanner Brothers Dairy have offered this award and it always creates some additional excitement in the season.

Rich Mellor was the early race leader in the Liberty Kenworth North East Sprint Series feature event, leading the way over Eric Jennings, Chris Allen, Jr., Shea Wills and Stan Ploski III through the first five laps.  Mellor was a feature winner in this division earlier this season.

Jennings closed the gap on Mellor as they completed the first half of the race’s twenty laps.  Jennings challenged for the lead between turns one and two on lap thirteen but Mellor prevailed.  Jennings slid in front of Mellor in turn two to take the lead one lap later.

Jennings led the way to the checkered over Mellor, Allen, Wills and Brian Spencer who is the Bridgeport NEWS Champion for 2023.  The win gave Jennings four wins on the season with another event scheduled at the end of the month as part of Bridgeport’s Octoberfest weekend.

Mike Thompson finished sixth followed by Joe Kata, Larry Drake, Walt Fletcher and Zach Brown.

Victory Fuel heat races were won by Jennings and Allen.

The Precision Hydraulic & Oil 602 Sportsman competed in a Underdog  20 feature event that saw third generation driver, Luke Bunting lead the way through the first half of the race over Kris Lillick, Tom Sherby, Scott Hulmes and Kris Thompson.

Matt Martino’s No. 226 was showing some smoke just after the halfway mark.  The No. 1 of Anthony Raisner came to a stop on lap twelve and both drivers were headed to the pits.  This was the first race anywhere for Raisner and the sharp looking No.1.

The lap thirteen restart erased Bunting’s lead and brought Lillick and Sherby to the leader.  It was a three car race for the lead when Ken Golden, Jr. waved the green flag on the restart.  Bunting led the field to the stripe for lap thirteen but Lillick raced into the lead for lap fourteen with both Bunting and Sherby challenging.  Sherby and Bunting continued to battle for second.

Lillick raced to the win over Sherby, Bunting, Thompson and Hulmes.  Brian Lillick finished sixth followed by Brian Rogers, Howard Huepful, Samantha Osborn and Robert Tete.

It was Lillick’s first win on the High Banks and the first Victory Lane that he was able to share with his wife and family.  The Lillicks are very active in local quarter midget racing with a third driver starting in 2024.  Maybe they gave their dad some pointers!

Next up – Octoberfest weekend on October 27th and 28th featuring 410 sprint cars, USAC East Coast Wingless, North East Wingless Sprints and Modifieds!

NIGHT ONE OF BRIDGEPORT STREET STOCK NATIONALS PRODUCES GREAT RACING

Bridgeport, NJ – It was the first of two nights of racing at the Bridgeport Motorsports Park for the Doug Rose and Frank Cozze 3rd Annual Street Stock Nationals presented by Harry’s U-Pull-It and Giels Automotive and fans got to see some great racing among three divisions plus Vintage Stock Cars.  The track was in great shape and the drivers put every inch of its surface to good use!

Rob Ormsbee picked up the win in the first fifteen lap Street Stock qualifier.  Eddie Sites grabbed the lead from his outside pole position start, leading the field to the completion of lap one.  Ormsbee, Sites and James Grant race three wide for the lead on the second lap with Ormsbee winning the battle.  Several single car incidents had the field under caution in the remaining laps but Ormsbee’s lead was never challenged.  Ormsbee took the win over Sites, Grant, Shane Wolf, Ryan Smith and Kyle Saylor with six cars transferring to Saturday’s 100 lap $10,000 to win main event.  Bridgeport’s own Andrew Joslin will race for a qualifying spot in one of the Last Chance Qualifiers along with Jeramy Doerr and Nick Sandone who experienced some issues during the qualifier.

In the second Street Stock qualifier, polesitter, Billy Walker took the lead on the start.  Walker travels all the way from his home in Alabama to compete in this event every year.  Tyler Dietz, defending Street Stock Nationals champion,  quickly moved into challenge for the lead.  Dietz took the lead on lap three with Dylan Cecce advancing to second.  Brett Crawford, Drew Brocklebank and Travis Webster battle throughout the fifteen laps to improve their position.  Dietz raced  to the win over Cecce, Crawford, Brocklebank who was the first Bridgeport regular  to qualify for the main event, and Webster.

The third qualifier saw Chris Allen, Jr. behind the wheel of his uncle’s No. 98B.  Allen is normally behind the wheel of a wingless sprint car but he looked right at home in the full-fendered car.  Allen took the lead on the start and then held off the challenges of Jasen Gessaman for several laps.  Geesaman took the lead on lap five as 2023 Bridgeport Street Stock Champion, Tom Wills, Jr. moved into third.  While Wills looked for a way to take second, Bailey Tolson closed in on Wills to challenge for third.  Tolson took over third and then took a look at Allen to challenge for second.  Tolson made hard contact with the wall , bringing out the caution on lap twelve and sidelining Tolson from the qualifier.  With just three laps to go, Allen headed to the pits for a tire change.  Geesaman took the win with Kyle Deneen taking over second in the final laps.  Wills finished third in front of the Spider Ensinger Family – Spider, Jr. finished fourth, followed by Spider, III and Spider, Sr.

Mike Melair raced to his first win on Bridgeport’s High Banks with the DCB’s Plumbing and Heating Mid Atlantic Sprint Series (MASS).

Nick Sweigert and Melair led the field to the green flag with Melair taking the lead after a battle with Sweigert for the position.  Phil Meisner, Eddie Wagner and 2023 MASS Champion, Buddy Schweibinz battled behind the leaders.  With Melair out in front, Schweibinz moved by Wagner to take over fourth on lap four.

The leaders caught the back of the field on lap eight and battling traffic became the next challenge.  At times, Sweigert was able to close the gap on Melair while they picked their way through traffic.

Schweibinz moved into third at the halfway mark but the leaders were long gone.

Melair’s biggest challenge came from lapped traffic, many who were racing for position in front of the leader.  Melair came off the wall several times in the final laps as he tried to navigate his way through the traffic.

Melair took the win over Schweibinz, Dave Brown who raced into third late in the race, Tim Iulg and Nick Sweigert who slowed on the final lap but was able to salvage a top five finish.  Phil Meisner finished sixth after racing in the top five for most of the race.  Ryan Stillwaggon followed in seventh with Kevin Nagy, Larry McVay and Eddie Wagner completing the top ten at the checkered.

Lee Allen raced to his second Four Cylinder win of the season as he raced into the lead on lap two and never looked back.  There was plenty of action behind the leader as Jason Peck, Kyler Stahl and Dan Stein, Jr. battled for second during the fifteen lap feature.  Allen took the win over Stein, Rob Pyle, Stahl and Eric Degler.

Night 1 was complete with a big day coming up on Saturday!

NAGY, KLIMECZAK & YOHN OPEN BRIDGEPORTS DANNY SERRANO WEEKEND WITH WINS

Bridgeport, NJ – The Bridgeport Motorsports Park opened what was to be the three day Danny Serrano weekend on Friday night featuring DCB’s Plumbing and Heating Mid Atlantic Sprint Series (MASS) for their final point race of the season presented by EZ Work Trucks.  The Izzi Trucking & Rigging Street Stocks produced a new winner and three drivers earned redraw spots for Saturday’s race by setting fast time in the three times sessions for the Danny’s Pizza Pizazz Modifieds.  The Precision Hydraulic & Oil Sportsman competed in a twenty lap Underdog 20 for any non winning driver in the 2023 season.

With the 305 Nationals presented by MASS and the Bridgeport Motorsports Park in mid-October, Friday night’s event also served as a final tune-up prior to the big weekend.  Several new names appeared in the Friday night line-ups including Jordan Spahr, Christian Rumsey and Nick Sweigert.  Matt McAnally made his first start in the 305s with a sharp looking No. 6.

Kevin Nagy set fast time in hot laps to receive D Capps Carpentry Fast Time award.  Nagy went on to put that speed to good use in the feature event.

The twenty-five lap main event got off to a rough start.  The original start saw Bob DeVault and defending champion, Buddy Schweibinz get together between turns one and two when DeVault got turned and then made contact with the infield tire.  The No. 4 came across the track just in time to collect Schweibinz who had nowhere to go.  Both drivers were eliminated from competition before the first lap could be completed.

The field lined up for the complete restart with polesitter, Dale Eggert and Tim Iulg leading the field to the green.  Eggert’s No. 32 broke as the field headed to the green.  Iulg went up and over Eggert but was able to continue as the race leader.

The third time was the charm as Iulg jumped out to an early lead.  Andy Best applied some pressure to the race leader in the first few laps before Nagy closed in on Best to challenge for second.  Nagy came away with second on lap three and set his sights on Iulg who had begun to pull away from the field.

By lap six, the leaders had caught the back of the field.  Iulg led the way through lap ten followed by Nagy, Best, Larry McVay and Christian Rumsey.

Best drew a caution on lap fourteen.  Nagy used a slide job between turns three and four to take the lead from Iulg on the lap fifteen restart.

Nagy was able to pull away from the field.  McVay closed the gap on Iulg but it was Iulg who raced across the finish line behind Nagy on lap twenty-five.  McVay finished third followed by Rumsey and Mike Melair.  Melair, Kenny Laureno and Jeff Paulson had been involved in a close battle with Melair taking fifth in the closing laps.

Laureno finished sixth followed by Paulson, Cory Cornell, Rick Stief and Darren Cox.  Aidan Borden was on his way to a top ten finish when mechanical ills struck on the final lap of the race.

Nagy dedicated the win to his mother, Lorraine, who had just come home from the hospital on Friday and watched the race with her husband on Flo Friday evening.  The Nagy’s are loyal fans and can usually be found in the grandstands on race night.

In spite of his lap one departure, Buddy Schweibinz had secured his second MASS Championship earlier in the evening.  The eighteen year old driver now has back-to-back championships in 305 competition in just his third season of sprint car competition.  The MASS competitors celebrated the 2023 title with a pizza party courtesy of Danny’s Pizza Pizzazz!

Gary Klimeczak put Rich Stinson’s No. 27 into Champion Brands LLC Hi-Tech Lubricants Victory Lane for his first win on the High Banks.  Klimeczak has several wins on the 5/8th mile track.

After losing his father earlier in the season, Klimeczak accepted Stinson’s invitation to compete in his No. 27 and it has been a win-win situation for parties.

Klimeczak led all fifteen laps of the feature, eventually pulling away from Jeramy Doerr who raced in second.  Bailey Tolson raced in third behind Doerr after an earlier battle with Mike Hughes in another No. 18 but Hughes was sidelined with mechanical issues.

It was Klimeczak for the win over Doerr, Tolson, TJ Henry and Duncan Molesworth.

Christopher Allen, Jr. competed in his uncle’s (Lee Allen) No. 98B in preparation for the upcoming Street Stock Nationals.  Allen can usually be found in the cockpit of a sprint car.  Allen finished sixth in Friday night’s feature over Nick Sandone, Spider Ensinger and Mike Hughes.

Jax Yohn raced to his first Bridgeport victory after battling with Matt Ellery for the lead in the Precision Hydraulic & Oil Underdog 20 for any non-winning driver in this division this season.  Ellery led the first eight laps before Yohn was able to dive to the inside in turn three to take the lead on lap nine.

In spite of several cautions and restarts, Yohn held the lead and raced to the checkered flag for the win.  Ellery finished second followed by Tom Sherby, Stephen Yankowski and Rich Wegner, Jr.  Matt Smith finished sixth with Howard Huepful, Brian Rogers, Billy Chester and Luke Bunting rounding out the top ten.

Neal Williams, Rick Laubach and Dillon Steuer were the fast timers in the three timed hot lap sessions for the Danny Pizza Pizzazz Modifieds.

Unfortunatley, the weather was the winner on Saturday and Sunday.  Some of the remaining events will become part of the High Banks weekend.  Watch for forthcoming announcements.

The action switches to the Spirit Auto Center quarter mile this weekend for the Danny Serrano Skyscraper event for the 270 and 600 Micro Sprints.

Monster Truck Wars Packs the House at Bridgeport Motorsports Park

Bridgeport, NJ – A beautiful sunny day provided Monster Truck Fans a wonderful day at the Speedway. For the first time ever the team from Monster Truck Wars brought their show to Bridgeport Motorsports Park with high profile trucks such as “World Champion” Bounty Hunter, along with Scarlet Bandit & Shark Bite. The event began with a pit party for all the Monster Truck Fans to meet the drivers and get pictures up close with the trucks. 2 Ride Trucks gave fans young and old alike the opportunity to feel what it’s like to be in a Monster Truck.

Once the Pit Party was completed everyone gathered in the large grandstands for the high-flying event that was about to take place. These Monster Trucks did not disappoint. They ripped and roared around the racecourse for the racing competition portion of the event. Then came freestyle. Monster Truck Wars put on an incredible show as the trucks soared through the air and balanced meticulously during their ground acts. The crowd was ecstatic, and the atmosphere was electrifying.

Back to racing this weekend September 22 – 24 with the Danny Serrano Weekend feature twin 50 lap events for the Modifieds, big Sportsman events, plus Sprint Cars winged and wingless. For further details check out their Facebook page or online at https://bridgeportmotorsportspark.com/

BRIDGEPORT 2023 CHAMPIONS CROWNED

Bridgeport, NJ – Call it coincidence.

The 2023 Bridgeport Motorsports Park Modified Champion is Jordan Watson and the Danny Sommerling’s No. 51 team. And it’s Bridgeport’s 51st season! And Danny’s Pizza Pizzazz has been the division sponsor of the Modifieds this season!

While that all may just be coincidence, the Danny’s Pizza Pizzazz No. 51 team put in the work, the hours, the dedication that is needed to be a championship team. “I’m proud of what we did with the team this year,” car owner Danny Sommerling stated. “Jordan (Watson) has been the key in unlocking this team’s potential of winning!” After seven years of trying, Sommerling was beginning to wonder if the sport had outgrown him.

For driver, Jordan Watson, a Bridgeport Championship has always been a dream. Watson has made Bridgeport history on several occasions. Ten years ago, Watson won the first Bill Hill Memorial Race – a race that Jesse and Travis Hill, family and friends, put together to honor their late father. A few seasons later, Watson won Bridgeport’s 1000th race. “Winning a Bridgeport Championship has always been a childhood dream of mine,” Watson explained. “I was a young kid, sitting in the grandstands, watching past champions like Doug Hoffman, Jimmy Horton and Duane Howard and always envisioned my name eventually being added to that list.” Watson continued. “After a successful Crate campaign at Bridgeport, we achieved our first Big Block win on a historical night – the 1000th Big Block race. I was able to celebrate with a childhood hero, Kenny Brightbill, who won the first ever Big Block race.”

At the end of the 2022 season, Watson was approached by Sommerling and crew chief, Bill Clark. They didn’t know Watson and Watson didn’t know them. They made Watson an offer and “none of us were confident about the trajectory it would take,” Watson adds. They had a trial run at the end of the season and it was enough to give all parties hope for the future.

Watson brought some of his people to be added to Sommerling’s crew and the building began. “Throughout the season, we continued to show speed and most importantly, consistency,” Watson explained. “I am so proud of my whole team,” Sommerling continues. “This could never have been done without any of them and the sponsors that have supported me for the past seven years.” “We definitely have made racing in my shop great again.” Watson agreed “I think I can speak for all of us – racing became fun again!”

“Thank you to Doug Rose and staff for continually working to improve his operation,” Watson adds. “I look forward to much more success with this team who has earned the title of champion!”

Travis Hill and Robert Cogdill raced to the 2023 Precision Hydraulic & Oil 602 Sportsman championship by the slimmest of margins of second place, Ethan Bill. In recent weeks, pictures have been circulating on social media of a very young Ethan Bill flanked by Travis and Jesse Hill. Of course, they didn’t know then that they would one day be racing against Bill for the title.

Both Hill and Cogdill are previous champions. It’s been ten years since Cogdill celebrated the title with his son, Mike behind the wheel. “I am extremely happy that we could do this for a second time,” Cogdill stated. “We worked hard all last winter and all of this year to have a good race car to be able to have a shot at the championship. I have to thank DiTeodoro Farms, Halters Farm Market and BHR Contracting – without these great sponsors, this would not be possible.”

Hill listened intently to what Doug Rose had to say at last week’s drivers’ meeting when he warned that this could in fact be the final race – should weather interfere with the races on the next weekend. And it did. “Knowing that last week could be the last, I knew I had one thing to do and we did it. Hill repassed Bill on the final lap to score the points needed to put himself and the No. 98 on top of the points.

” I want to thank everyone that has come out to support us and Bridgeport Speedway this season,” Hill added.

Tom Wills, Jr. raced to his fifth championship in the Bridgeport Motorsports Park Street Stocks. He surpassed his most feature wins during the 2023 season when he won seven times. His most wins in a season had been six in one of his previous titles.

The Wills No. 856 is a family owned and operated team. Tom Wills, Sr. is also a past champion in this division and it was Wills, Sr. who made sure that his son learned the necessary lessons to running a race car.

Wills, Jr.’s early races were run at New Egypt where he learned to drive. His father brought him to Bridgeport (on the 5/8th mile track) where he said he would “learn to race.” “I didn’t know anything in the beginning,” Wills, Jr. explained. “I learned how to fix things that I didn’t even know what they were called in the beginning.” It may have not been the fast track but it was the right way to learn.

Whenever the No. 856 goes to the Champion Brands Victory Lane, you will find his mother, sisters and niece in addition to Tom Sr. and the crew. Sponsorship from Reeds Contracting, Holeshot Tin Works, Wills Girls Baking, Edwards Excavation, Tabernacle Sod Farm, Robey’s Lawnmower Repair, Friendship Auto Parts, RS Customs, Medford Speed and Machine and RD Marano Race Engines.

Hard work and dedication are needed to win championships along with a good driver and crew and the parts needed to keep a car up and running. A little bit of luck goes a long way too!

We congratulate our 2023 Champions – Jordan Watson, Danny’s Pizza Pizzazz Modifieds, Travis Hill – Precision Hydraulic & Oil 602 Sportsman and Tom Wills, Jr. – the Bridgeport Motorsports Park Street Stocks.

The titles have been won but there’s still plenty of racing left on the 2023 calendar. The Danny Serrano Weekend is coming up on Friday, September 22nd – Sunday, September 24th.

BUNTING BESTS BRIDGEPORT MODIFIED FIELD

Bridgeport, NJ – HJ Bunting and his Eugene Mills owned Blue Hen Racing No. 30 opened the 2023 season with a feature win in the Danny’s Pizza Pizzazz Modifieds at the Bridgeport Motorsports Park.

On Saturday night, Mills returned to the Champion Brands Victory Lane to collect his second win of the season and become just the fourth driver to earn more than one win so far this season. It was Weaknecht Archery Night at the Bridgeport Motorsports Park.

Brian Papiez raced to his third win in a row in the Precision Hydraulic & Oil 602 Sportsman. Tom Wills, Jr. clinched his fourth Izzy Trucking & Rigging Street Stock Championship along with his seventh win of the season in a very convincing fashion. Brian Spencer raced to his second Church’s Auto Parts North East Wingless Sprint (NEWS) win on the High Banks and captured the season championship as well. In Tipico Four Cylinder competition, Tim Jones raced to his second win of the season as well as the Four Cylinder title at the Bridgeport Motorsports Park.

Mike Franz grabbed the lead at the start of the thirty lap Modified main event but there was a quick caution on lap two when Rick Laubach and Sammy Martz, Jr. got together in turn two. Both drivers restarted from the rear. Franz raced to the outside of W. B. James to take the lead on the restart with Sean Metz running in second. The heavy hitters were on the way as point leader, Jordan Watson, worked the bottom of the track and a hard charging Matt Stangle raced the outside to make their way into the top five. Franz led Metz, Bunting, Stangle, James and Jordan Watson through lap five.

Bunting took over second on lap six with Stangle moving up to third. One lap later, Bunting raced to the inside of Franz in turn three and came away with the lead with Stangle advancing to second. On a lap nine restart, Stangle went to the bottom while Jordan Watson ran the outside to take over second. Bunting led Jordan Watson, Stangle , Billy Osmun III and Neal Williams through lap ten.

Osmun took over second on a lap thirteen restart but Ryan Krachun became the new runner-up one lap later.

Bunting led Krachun, Osmun, Stangle and Duane Howard at halfway with Jordan Watson and Williams racing just outside the top five.

Jordan Watson moved back into the top five by lap twenty and the running order remained Bunting, Krachun, Osmun, Stangle and Watson with five laps to go.

Krachun’s race came to an end with a driveline issue with two laps to go.

Bunting raced to the win followed by Osmun, Stangle, Watson and Howard. Williams finished sixth followed by Cale Ross, Sam Martz, Sr., Rick Laubach and Sean Metz.”

“This is my kind of track,” Bunting exclaimed. “Give me a cushion and watch!”

F & L Doors heat races were won by Franz, W.B. James and Sammy Martz, Jr. who again ran into difficulties during the feature event.

Robert Tete led the first ten laps of the Precision Hydraulic & Oil 602 Sportsman feature while Brian Papiez raced his way to the front from his fourteenth place start. Tete led lap ten over David Jenkins, Papiez, Matt Peck and Ethan Bill but it was Papiez who was out in front one lap later.

Several cars got out of shape on the backstretch at halfway. Ethan Young got caught up in the melee and flipped. No one was injured but Young’s race was over for the night.

With Papiez out in front, the race was behind the leader as Hill, Peckl and Bill raced for position. With just two laps to go, Bill used a slide job to overtake Hill but Hill returned the favor one lap later to regain the position.

Papiez raced to his third win in a row over Hill, Bill, Peck and Wayne Weaver. Stephen Yankowski, Luke Bunting, Howie Finch, Billy Chester and Kris Lilick completed the top ten at the checkered.

After a tough start to the season, the No. 37 team has beefed up their attention to detail and have the results to show for it!

Hoffman Discount Part heat races were won by David Jenkins, Billy Chester and Matt Peck.

Tom Wills, Jr. was one step closer to the 2023 Street Stock Championship with this seventh win of the season.

Jeramy Doerr was the race leader for the first two laps until Wills, Jr. came through on lap three to take the lead by racing to the inside of Doerr on the backstretch.

Wills was able to pull away from any potential challengers. Doerr finished second with Duncan Molesworth finishing third over Spider Ensinger and Nick Sandone.

The DTM Powersports heat race was won by Terry Chaney after a three wide race to the checkered flag.

Brian Spencer raced to his second NEWS win of the season on the High Banks and earned the Bridgeport championship for the North East Wingless Sprints.

Eric Jennings looked like he was on the way to his fourth win but lapped traffic closed up the field and Spencer took the lead for lap ten. Shea Wills also found his way by Jennings to finish second followed by Thomas Radavoy and Stan Ploski III.

The victory also gave Spencer the 2023 NEWS Championship at Bridgeport.

The Liberty Kenworth heat race was won by Shea Wills.

Tim Jones dominated the Tipico Sportbook 4 Cylinder feature event on his way to his first Bridgeport Championship. Joe Garey, Sr. finished second followed by Lee Allen, John Parker and defending 4 Cylinder Champion, Ed Ford.

The Victory Fuel heat race was won by Lee Allen.
