Bridgeport, NJ – Ryan Godown raced to his fifth Bridgeport Motorsports Park victory of the season in the Foley Cat Modifieds on Church’s Auto Parts Night at the races. Kevin Nagy picked up his seventh win of the season – his fourth on Bridgeport high banks in Delaware Auto Exchange Mid Atlantic Sprint Series action. Tom Wills, Jr. came up with the win in the Bridgeport Motorsports Park Street Stock victory while Amanda Angstadt earned her third win of the season in the Saturday Matinee for the All Star Slingshots.
Mike Franz led the field of Modifieds to the green flag and led the way from the start. With two laps scored, the caution waved for Billy Pauch who slowed with a flat tire. Pauch pitted and returned for the green with Franz leading the way over Neal Williams, Tom Moore, Jr. and Joe Toth. Franz was on the gas and led through lap nine with Williams using a crossover move to take the lead on lap ten. Godown raced behind the leaders after clearing Alex Yankowski for third. Ryan Krachun ran in fifth on lap ten.
Williams led laps ten and eleven but it was Godown who used the momentum out of turn two to take the lead on a lap twelve restart. Yankowski took on Williams for second on lap thirteen while Dominick Buffalino and Ryan Krachun battled side by side for fourth.
Godown drove away from the field. The lightning fast No. 26 sponsored by Camp Out and Ellery’s Pub and Grill made it all look easy as Godown raced ahead of the field. Yankowski kept Godown within his sights but was never able to get to the leader. Buffalino raced back into third just past half way but was not able to close the distance on the top two. After a heated battle with Williams and Joseph Watson, Krachun finished fourth with Watson taking fifth. Williams finished a strong sixth followed by Sammy Martz, Frank Cozee, Franz and Billy Pauch who rebounded to a top ten finish after his earlier pit stop.
Neal Williams and the South Jersey Overhead Door No. 0 set fast time during pre-race hot laps.
“We really had a good car tonight,” Godown explained. “It was better than it’s been the last couple of weeks.” Godown last visited the Weaknecht Archery Victory Lane in mid-June. “When you get to the front you can concentrate on hitting your marks and just keep rolling,” the feature winner added. “You don’t have to worry about traffic.”
Kevin Nagy has been on a roll and is having a great 2021 season to date. After polesitter, Aidan Borden slowed before taking the green, it was Cody West who led the field to the green flag on the complete restart. Dave Brown quickly closed in and raced into the lead on lap one.
Brown led the way through lap nine. The races was red flagged when Zac Vickers tangled with another car on the homestretch and flipped. Vickers was transported to the local hospital for treatment for a leg injury.
The restart saw Nagy on Brown’s back bumper and then into the lead for lap eleven. Two laps later, the race was again red flagged when West made hard contact with the second turn wall after a part failure. West was not injured but the Kennedy No. 56 was heavily damaged.
Nagy, Brown and Ryan Stillwaggon made it a three car race for the lead with Nagy pulling away after the restart.
Nagy raced to the checkered for his fourth Bridgeport win of the season over Brown, Stillwaggon, Tim Tanner and Larry McVay.
Zach Bergoff finished sixth followed by Eddie Wagner, Rory Janny, Kristina Pratt and Jeff Geiges.
After an engine failure just a few weeks ago, two time Street Stock Champion, Tom Wills, Jr. thought his 2021 season was over but friends through racing came to his aid and Wills repaid them with a feature win on Saturday night.
Wills led from the start but when the caution was needed on the last lap, Wills had last week’s winner, TJ Henry on his back bumper. Wills had a good start and then won the drag race off of turn four to capture his fourth win of the season. Henry finished a close second followed by Jeramy Doerr, Jeff Dirkes and Ron Frees. Frees, a former track champion, returned to Bridgeport to prepare for the Street Stock Nationals being presented on the high banks later this season.
Amanda Angstadt took the lead from Michael Beckett on a restart with eight laps complete. Once out in front, Angstadt had little trouble keeping the lead. Angstadt took the win over Beckett, John Phillip, Ryan Davey and Dave Morrell.

Bridgeport, NJ – Five-time Bridgeport Speedway Champion, Ryan Watt, captured the South Jersey Shootout – the first Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series Fueled by Sunoco Short Track Super Series event to be held on the high banks of the Bridgeport Motorsports Park. It was also Watt’s first victory on the track designed by Doug Rose and company. “We’ve been so close here so many times,” Watt explained. “I think we have like six seconds here – we’ve just never been able to seal the deal,” Watt noted from the Weaknecht Archery Victory Lane.
Tuesday night’s event was the fifth STSS race to be run at Bridgeport. Three on the old 5/8th mile track won by Rick Laubach, Wade Hendrickson and Stewart Friesen, one on the 3/8th mile track won by Jeff Strunk and now Watt on the 4/10 mile configuration. Ellery’s Pub & Grill were the sponsors for this historic event.
The Modified feature event ran green to checkered in just under fifteen minutes. This was the sixth non-stop race of the season for the Foley Cat Modifieds and the first non-stop extra distance event of 2021. It was the third consecutive non-stop Modified feature event – that’s 110 non-stop laps of feature action.
“The car was good tonight right out of the box,” the feature winner explained. Watt qualified through his heat race, finishing second and in a redraw spot. Then Watt drew the outside pole.
Polesitter, Rick Laubach grabbed the lead on the start leaving Watt to battle Matt Shepperd for second. Laubach was able to pull away as Watt bested Shepperd for second. Current STSS point leader, Mike Mahaney ran fourth with Stewart Friesen rounding out the top ten through the first five laps.
By lap fifteen, Laubach had caught the back of the field as Watt reeled in the leader. Shepperd and Friesen were door to door, battling for third. The two drivers use slide jobs and crossovers to advance their positions. Friesen grabbed third only to have Shepperd battle back to regain the position on the next lap. Meanwhile, Mahaney rounded out the top five.
Laubach took the crossed flags at halfway but it was Watt who was out in front the next time around. Alex Yankowski was able to take away fifth from Mahaney as he raced in the top five.
Shepperd passed Laubach for second on lap thirty-three. With fifteen laps to go, Laubach,, Friesen and Yankowski were racing three wide for third.
As the laps counted down, Watt’s biggest hurdle was dealing with lapped traffic. With the quality of the cars competing, even the lapped cars were fast and therefore, were not easy to pass. Watt battled throughout the remaining laps to put Frank Cozze down a lap but the veteran driver from Wind Gap, PA was not going quietly. Watt was side by side with Cozze and the Renaldo No 401 but each time, Cozze was able to pull ahead. Danny Bouc played a similar role in the final laps. That allowed Shepperd to close in on the leader with Friesen closing in on Shepperd.
Watt navigated the final laps to perfection and sailed to the checkered flag for the win in the Design for Vision, Sunglass Central Modified fifty lapper. Shepperd trailed Watt to the flag followed by Friesen, Yankowski and Laubach. Mahaney, Anthony Perrego, Ryan Godown, Max McLaughlin and Dominick Buffalino completed the top ten in the running order at the end of fifty laps.
“I thought I had a pretty good shot,” Shepperd explained until the No. 9s developed a push late in the race. “I’m glad to come out of here with a second.” Shepperd added.
Not to be outdone, the Belmont’s Garage 602 Crate Sportsman, ran twenty-five non-stop green flag laps with Ryan Godown, Jr. leading from green to checkered in the non-stop event that was completed in just over seven and a half minutes.
Ryan Godown, Jr. led from the wave of the green to the wave off the checkered. The win gave Godown, Jr. is first “big” check. “I didn’t know where anyone was or where they were running,” Godown, Jr. explained. “I was finally able to get a look at the lap counter and saw twenty-one. I was glad to see that,” the young driver explained.
Brian Krummel raced the Cooney No. 12C to a second place finish over Sammy Martz, Jr., Ajay Potrzebowski, Jr. and Michael White. Ryan Simmons finished sixth followed by Joe Toth, Adam White, Ryan HIggs and Stephen Kemery.
It was a great show – three wide racing throughout the pack. A two division show completed in less than three hours with forty cars in each of the two divisions. The happy race rans left the speedway with a lot to talk about until their next race.

Bridgeport, NJ – The Bridgeport Motorsports Park presented an action packed Saturday night program that featured the South Jersey Overhead Door 602 Sportsman, the Bridgeport Motorsports Park Street Stocks, the Four Cylinder Enduros in addition to both winged and wingless sprints cars courtesy of the Delaware Auto Exchange Mid Atlantic Sprint Series 305 Winged Sprints and the Rapid Tire USAC East Coast Wingless Sprint Cars. 107 cars filed into the pit area for Saturday night’s action while race fans filed into the grandstands. Plenty of race cars, plenty of fans and plenty of racing action!
The Foley Cat Modifieds had the night off to prepare for the Short Track Super Series event on Tuesday but there was still a large crowd of fans on hand for the Saturday night program. And the racing did not disappoint! Dirt track racing is alive and well at the Bridgeport Motorsports Park!
Steve Kemery came away with the win in the South Jersey Overhead Door 602 Crate Sportsman feature after a two lap shootout to the checkered flag with current point leader, Sammy Martz Jr. Martz drew a starting spot on the front row and ran away from the field as the race went for twenty-three non-stop green flag circuits.
The late race caution closed up the field and erased the lead that Martz had created over the twenty-three lap span. The single file restart with just two laps to go saw Kemery and Martz exchange slide jobs and cross over moves on lap twenty-four. They raced side by side on lap twenty-four and were side by side as they raced out of turn four to the checkered. Kemery won the drag race by a bumper and part of a tire over Martz. It was Kemery’s fifth win of the season at Bridgeport, tying him with Martz as we head into the second half of the season.
Brian Krummel made the trip to Bridgeport on an off night from Orange County and used a late race move down the backstretch to race to a third place finish. Matt Ellery was again in the middle of the top five action, earning a fourth place finish over Ryan HIggs. Joe Toth finished sixth in the Belmont No. 14 followed by Nick DeSantis, Brian Brobst. Ryan Krachun in the Ryan Stangle No. 6 and Eric Kormann in the George Hoffman No. 10.
Kemery represents his sponsors well, thanking everyone in Victory Lane with a special shoutout to Tim Buckwalter’s TSL shocks for the great shock package.
TJ Henry became a repeat winner in the Bridgeport Motorsprots Park Street Stocks, taking the lead from two time feature winner, Jeff Dirkes with five laps to go. Jeramy Doerr’s late race charge saw him take second from Dirkes at the checkered for his best finish of the season. Dirkes finished third followed by point leader, Tom Wills, Jr. and Gary Klimeczak.
A wild finish in the fifteen lap Four Cylinder feature saw Joe Garey, Jr. capture the victory. Scott Dunn dominated the first thirteen laps of the race with Justin Dunn catching the leader with two to go. With the top two cars nose to tail, Brian Barker got out of shape on the homestretch collecting Justin Dunn and bringing out the caution. The field lined up for the restart but the leader’s car did not go on when the green flag waved. Scott Dunn headed to the pits while Garey, Jr. scored the victory over Chris Gall, Joe Garer, Sr., Kyle Hurley and Bobby Johnson.
Kevin Nagy remains the hottest thing in 305 Sprint Car racing as the Bridgeport fans got to see Nagy race to his sixth win of the season and second in as many days. Nagy led every lap of the twenty lap feature event over Josh Bricker, Mike Melair, Aidan Borden and Zach Bealer. Dominic Melair had a great run on the leader but mechanical issues sent Melair to the infield with just five laps to go.
Tim Tanner, Larry McVay, Dale Eggert, Eddie Wagner and Dave Brown rounded out the top ten at the checkered.
The winged sprint cars of MASS get to try it again next weekend as they return to the high banks fo the Bridgeport Motorsports Park.
The Rapid Tire USAC East Coast Wingless Sprints wrapped up the show with their feature event. Alex Bright and Mark Bitner led the field to the green with Bright grabbing the early race lead but a quick red would realign the field for a complete restart. A multi-car incident in turn one saw David Swanson take a wild ride in the No 117. All drivers were okay but Swanson’s night ended before lap one could be completed.
Bright raced into the lead with Bitner and Briggs Danner in hot pursuit. Danner secured second on lap two and then set his sights on Bright who was pulling away from the field.
Danner reeled in the Rodota Trucking No. 20 and slid Bright for the lead several times before a three car incident in turn one again brought out the caution.
The restart gave Bright a clear track ahead to defend his lead. The race for third was heating up with Damon Paul, Mark Bitner and Ed Aiken as the laps counted down.
Bright raced to the win for his fifth USAC East Coast victory of the season and his first on the high banks of the Bridgeport Motorsports Park. Danner finished a strong second with Aiken making some late race moves to finish third. Bitner finished fourth with Nash Ely taking fifth in the closing laps for his second top five of the weekend. Paul, Eric Jennings, Mike Thompson, Chris Allen (who rebounded from an earlier incident) and Troy Betts completed the top ten at the finish line.
The Short Track Super Series will make its first appearance on the high banks on Tuesday, July 27th with another full weekend of racing to follow on Saturday.
