60 Over Spectacular: Friesen Over Krachun at Bridgeport STSS Modified Opener

BRIDGEPORT, NJ – The box score will say Stewart Friesen started from the pole and won Sunday’s ’60 Over Special’ at Bridgeport Motorsports Park.

That, however, was far from reality.

Friesen, of Sprakers, N.Y., first battled with Louden Reimert – then lost the lead again to Ryan Krachun – before driving to Bicknell Racing Products Victory Lane following the 60-lap event run in memory of late driver and promoter Doug Hoffman.

Friesen pocketed $6,060 for his second consecutive victory in the event.

“It was a wild race,” Friesen said. “Starting from the pin there, you never know what’s gonna happen.”

Sunday’s program kicked off the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco 2026 season under bright sunny skies.

Following the Beyea Custom Headers Redraw, Friesen led the field to green in Round No. 1 of the STSS Modified NJ Quality Drywall South Region. Pennsylvania’s Louden Reimert outgunned Friesen and paced the first 13 laps around the high-banked oval before Friesen put the Halmar International No. 44 out front.

As Friesen led, fifth-starter Krachun was beginning to climb from fifth position in the Danny’s Pizza Pizzazz No. 51.

Krachun slipped beneath Reimert to take over second place on the 28^th lap and set his sights on Friesen.

As Friesen began to struggle through turns one and two, Krachun became a factor for the lead. With 22 laps remaining, Friesen nearly clipped the outside boilerplate and Krachun darted into the top spot.  

“I just kind of got complacent,” Friesen said. “I thought I found a smooth spot up by the fence (in turns one and two) but it bit me. The 51 (Krachun) snuck by. Pretty wild out there.”

Friesen remained in step with Krachun until a pivotal pair of restarts with 13 laps remaining.

Roaring into turn one, Friesen regained a lead he would ultimately never relinquish for his 55^th STSS victory and first since Quebec’s Le RPM Speedway last July, prior to his injuries sustained a week later.

“Winning Doug’s (Hoffman) race is something we circle on the calendar,” Friesen said. “Him and my Uncle Alex were really tight.”

Krachun, of Neshanic Station, N.J., matched his series-best runner-up finish worth $3,000.

“Stewie ran one hell of a race: he is one of the best to do it,” Krachun said. “It’s just good to be fast here again.”

Michael Maresca of Baldwinsville, N.Y., followed a Saturday preliminary night victory with a third-place finish, followed by Matt Stangle, also of Neshanic Station, N.J., who started eighth and Ryan Godown of Ringoes, N.J., who started 14^th.

Finishing sixth through 10^th, respectively, were Alex Yankowski of Covington Township, Pa., in the Millman No. 84Y; Long Island’s Dillon Steuer; early leader Reimert of Oley, Pa.; Anthony Perrego of Montgomery, N.Y., who started 23^rd and Brandon Grosso of Montgomery, N.J.

A field of 34 STSS Modifieds signed in for competition.

Maresca was the ATL Fuel Cells Hot Lap Hero with a circuit of 15.718 seconds.

Heat winners were Danny Bouc, Yankowski, Matt Stangle and Friesen. Neal Williams won the B-Main.

Joe Toth of Upper Makefield, Pa., rode the outside lane past Robbie Emory to win the 25-lap STSS Sportsman event worth $1,560, Round No. 1 of the Belmont’s Garage South Region.

The win for Toth was his seventh with the series.

Emory had kept the field behind him for 20 laps before a failing engine forced him to the infield.

Toth went on to win over Mike Butler of Bedminster, N.J., Matt Peck of Pottstown, Pa., Travis Hill of Elmer, N.J., and Quebec invader Christopher Cordeau.

Thirty-six STSS Sportsman registered for competition.

Bobby Butler was the JLR Technologies Hot Lap Hero at 17.330 seconds.

Heat winners were Ryan Anderson, Emory, Jax Yohn and Toth. Adrianna Delliponti and Teague Miller split the B-Mains.

Next up: Pa.’s Bedford Speedway this Sunday, March 29 for the 90th Anniversary Special and a first-time STSS Modified visit.

MARESCA & TOTH ARE BIG WINNERS IN PRELUDE TO HOFFMAN MEMORIAL

The Bridgeport Motorsports Park threw the green flag on the 2026 season with a full pit of Modifieds (39) and Sportsman (53) for the Prelude to the Doug Hoffman Memorial race.  Mike Maresca raced to his second Bridgeport season opener in the Modified twenty-five lap feature.  Joe Toth won both the twenty lap Sportsman main event and the rained-out Harry’s U-Pull-It 100 Lap Sportsman Nationals $10,000 Not to Win feature event from last season.  Jonathan Swanson raced to the win in the season opener for the Victory Fuel Wingless Sprints.

The twenty-five lap non-stop Danny’s Pizza Pizzazz Modified feature event took just over seven minutes to complete as Mike Maresca of Baldwinsville, NY set a blistering pace from the wave of the green.  Maresca blasted by polesitter, Tyler Dippel and then led every lap to gain the Bridgeport victory.  Seventeen year old, Logan Watt gave Maresca a run for his money after taking over second from Justin Grosso on lap nine.  At that point, Maresca had driven away to a significant lead but had caught the back of field and Watt began to cut into his advantage.  Watt caught the leader in traffic and mounted a challenge with five laps to go.  That was Maresca’s incentive to get more aggressive.

Maresca took the win over Watt, Justin Grosso, Dippel and Danny Bouc.  Alex Payne finished sixth followed by 2025 Champion, Dillon Steuer, Ryan Godown, Brian Papiez and Brandon Grosso.

Joe Toth was behind the wheel of a Hirthler No. 117 for Saturday’s action – a car that he had qualified for the Sportsman National’s last Fall.  Toth started on the pole for the twenty lap feature with Brandon Watkins to his outside.  Jesse Hirthler started in third in his new No. 117.

Toth grabbed the lead on the start with Hirthler quickly moving into second.  The first half of the race was riddled with caution flags – three in just the first five laps.  The restarts put the pair of Hirthler cars side-by-side on the restarts but Toth was able to hold off Hirthler each time.  They ran that way to the checkered with Toth taking the win over Jesse Hirthler, Mike Butler, Matt Ellery and Colin Cox. 

Toth became the first feature winner in the Demers Heating & Cooling sponsored Sportsman. 

When drivers were asked about the $10,000 “not to win” payday for the one hundred lap Sportsman Nationals, the answer was very consistent.  The drivers stated, without hesitation, they were going for the win.  And that was probably true  – up to the final laps anyway.  That’s when the realization hit – if they weren’t going to win, then they wanted to finish third.

Polesitter, Travis Hill took the early lead over Joe Toth.  Hill led every one of the first seventy-seven laps, maintaining his lead through both restarts.  Hill had pulled away to about a half of track advantage when the caution waved with twenty-three laps to go.  This time, Toth went to the inside and had the lead as the field headed down the backstretch as he capitalized on the timing of the restart that left Hill re-examining what he could have done differently for the remainder of the event.

The caution was needed again with just three laps to go.  It was a single file restart with Toth and Hill holding their positions but there was plenty of action for that third place finish.  Ethan Bill, Steve Kemery, Steve Davis, Jax Yohn, Matt Peck and Zane Roth were racing for third as the field headed to the checkered.  Toth took the win over Hill with Davis grabbing third for the $10,000 prize.  Zane Roth finished fourth with his new ride and Kemery crossed the line in fifth in spite of a flat right rear tire.  Ethan Bill was shuffled back to sixth followed by Matt Peck, Jax Yohn, Jesse Hirthler and Colin Cox.  

It was a sweep for Toth and for car owner, Kevin Hirthler!

After leading every lap of the fifteen lap feature event, Stan Ploski was forced to settle for second after Jonathan Swanson was able to complete a last lap, last corner pass for the lead and the win.  Wayne Scott won the battle for third over Nate Smith and Brendan Hires.

SWEDESBORO, NJ – It’s been a long winter…and racers are ready to go racing!  The 83 cars filled the pits of the Bridgeport Motorsports Park on Saturday as Doug Rose opened the track for an all division practice day that reflected the action planned for the 2026 season.

With a schedule that includes Modifieds, Sportsman, Street Stocks, Sprint Cars and Four Cylinders on a regular basis, the Bridgeport Motorsports Park rolls out an exciting schedule for racing fans of every persuasion.

The Sportsman Division led the way in Saturday’s car count ( with thirty-six cars taking laps.  2025 Track Champion, Joe Toth, Jesse Hirthler who finished second in points last year, as well as feature winners Matt Ellery, Brian Rogers, Ronnie Solomon, Travis Hill, Wayne Weaver, Charley Cossaboone and Ryan Anderson all took advantage of Saturday’s practice along with 2024 Track Champion, Ethan Bill.  2025 Modified Champion, Dillon Steuer was joined by Cale Ross, Brian Papiez, Dominick Buffalino, Anthony Tramontana, Danny Bouc and Mike Franz and others.

There will be some new additions to the four fendered ranks this season along with 2025 Champions, Mike Hughes (Street Stocks) and Lee Allen (Four Cylinders).

There were some new faces among the Victory Fuel Wingless Sprints along with series regulars, David and Jonathan Swanson, Shea Wills and Stan Ploski.  Series President, Ed Aiken was on hand to assist some of the newcomers to the USAC EC ranks.  Joe Kata makes the move to the wingless ranks this season.  MASS was well represented with drivers like Tim Iulg, Bob DeVault, Andrew Turpin, Justin Nowlen, Keith Anderson and Ryan Schultz.  Former MASS Champion, Buddy Schweibinz had his No. 35 410 sprinter on the track as he begins a full schedule of 410 races this season.  

The points season begins on Saturday April 11^th for all divisions.  The Danny’s Pizza Pizazz Modifieds will be featured on two to three Saturday nights a month while the Demers Heating & Cooling Sportsman ranks will see weekly action on the High Banks along with the Four Cylinders.  The Straight Up Construction Street Stocks and Victory Fuel Wingless Sprints will be part of many Saturday night events.

The DA’s Auto Body & Repair Rookies get their ten week season underway when the season points start on April 11th. 

And Sprint Cars – whatever your preference, you can see them at Bridgeport.  The DCB’s Plumbing & Heating Mid Atlantic Sprint Series has a dozen Saturday night races including the popular Joe Kay Memorial two-day event in mid-June.  The MASS Sprints will make a return visit to the Bridgeport quarter mile track in July.  And in September, Bridgeport will again host the 305 Nationals, a two-day event on September 4th and 5th.  In addition to the Victory Fuel Wingless Sprints, the USAC East Coast Wingless Sprints will make five appearances at Bridgeport this season.  The USAC National Sprint Cars (Eastern Storm) appear at Bridgeport on Wednesday, June 17th.  On Tuesday, July 28th the Interstate Batteries High Limit Series returns to Bridgeport for their third appearance, bringing the likes of Rico Abreu, Tanner Thorson, Daison Pursley and Corey Day to the Garden State.  The PA Posse 410 Sprints make two appearances this season – on Sunday, April 26^th for the PA Posse 410 Sprint Series and again at season’s end for the Dirty Jersey Finale.  The United Racing Club also has a date on the Bridgeport schedule.

And if this isn’t enough, Bridgeport fans will also see appearances by the Mod Lites, Excel Modified, Delaware Trucks and Vintage Cars throughout the season.  

The season gets started with a two day event this Saturday and Sunday with the Doug Hoffman Memorial and Short Track Super Series Weekend.  

Saturday’s events for the Doug Hoffman Memorial prelude will include the 100 lap Sportsman National race postponed due to weather last season.  This race pays $10,000 to the third place finisher which guarantees and exciting race to the checkered.  The Modifieds will qualify and compete in a twenty-five lap feature event paying $3,000 to win while the Sportsman come back with qualifying and a twenty lap feature paying $1,000 to the winner.  The top three in both the Modified and Sportsman features will earn transfer spots into Sunday’s main events.  The Victory Fuel Wingless Sprints will also make their first appearance of the new season on Saturday.

Sunday will feature the Doug Hoffman Memorial – sixty laps for the Modifieds paying $6060 to the winner in addition to the STSS Sportsman and Four Cylinders.

There have been eleven Hoffman Memorial races – two races were lost, one to weather and one to Covid.  Eight different drivers have claimed victory in this prestigious event with only Ryan Watt, Ryan Godown and Stewart Friesen able to repeat by winning two races each.  Godown and Friesen will both be competing for their third win while the Watt team will be represented by second generation driver, Logan Watt.  Bobby Varin was the winner of the first Hoffman Memorial in 2013.  Other race winners include Dominick Buffalino, Billy Pauch, Sr., Mike Maresca and Matt Stangle.  Friesen was the winner of last year’s event and will be warmly welcomed when he makes his return to the High Banks.

Pit gates open at 1pm both days with cars on the track at 3pm.  Grandstand gates open at 2pm.

Bridgeport Quarter Midget Track to Open for Saturday Afternoon Competition in 2026

Bridgeport Motorsports Park will expand from two to three speedways in 2026. Doug Rose, the owner of the southern New Jersey facility, confirmed to Area Auto Racing News that a 1/20-mile clay oval is being built for Saturday afternoon competition prior to scheduled racing on the high-banked 4/10-mile speedway later that evening.

“Over the past couple of years, some of my big-track racers have been after me to put in a Quarter Midget track at Bridgeport for their children to race at the same place they do,” Rose told AARN.

“This way, they can come to one track and both race on the same day. We were planning to do it last year, but time got away from us, so 2026 is the year.”

The addition of the third track will give Bridgeport another step in its ladder system. A young driver will be able to start at age five in a Quarter Midget on the new track, advance to the 1/4-mile speedway to race Slingshots and then Micro Sprints, before moving on to the high-banked 4/10-mile outer speedway in Rookie Sportsman and eventually Modified or Sprint Car divisions.
The Bridgeport Quarter Midget Speedway (BPQMS) will follow the NASCAR Youth Series for the Quarter Midget racing division of the United States Auto Club (USAC) rules. Rose, however, does not plan to seek official sanctioning at this time, opting instead to operate as an independent organization.

“Instead of the typical club setup where parents are required to perform duties, we are going to run this more like a traditional racetrack,” said Rose.

“That’s something we’ve been asked to do by our racers. Bridgeport will fully staff race-day operations and maintain the facility during the week. There will be one all-access pit pass priced at just $10, and each car will have a standard entry fee similar to what racers are accustomed to now.”

At most club tracks, family members are required to perform tasks such as lawn work, facility maintenance, officiating events, and even acting as judges to make calls. Under Bridgeport’s plan, Rose’s staff will handle all responsibilities, making it easier for busy racing families—especially those in which a parent or older child also competes in big-car divisions.
Rookie School will begin on April 4 and run through April 30 to get beginners up to speed safely. Weekly racing will start on Saturday, May 2.

By racing on Saturday afternoons, Bridgeport will avoid conflicts with local dirt Quarter Midget events held in New Jersey, Delaware, and Pennsylvania.

The South Jersey Quarter Midget Club, which lost its home at Atco Dragway when the facility closed, has since relocated to New Egypt, N.J. A track built inside the big speedway there opened last year, hosting competition on Sunday afternoons and Thursday nights.

“Back when I first took over Bridgeport, the folks from the South Jersey Quarter Midget Club in Atco, N.J., called to see if I would be willing to bring their club here,” said Rose. “At the time, we had a lot going on with the newly configured big track, and I explained that if they couldn’t find another location, I would help them out. Fortunately, they were able to secure a location.”
The Blackbird Quarter Midget Club, which races on the grounds of Airport Speedway in New Castle—just 30 minutes from Bridgeport—also conducts dirt racing for children on Sundays, ensuring it will not conflict with Bridgeport’s new effort.

Rose will be available to answer questions and provide additional information at Bridgeport’s display during the upcoming PPB Motorsports Show, Friday and Saturday, January 23–24, at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, Pa.

Bridgeport Steals the Spotlight at Motorsports Expo

Bridgeport Speedway owned the spotlight at the Motorsports Expo presented by Pioneer Pole Building in Oaks, PA, with a jaw-dropping red-carpet display that stopped fans in their tracks all weekend long.

From the moment the doors opened Friday night, the Bridgeport booth was rocking. Fans packed in to meet the movie stars from the motion picture PONY, filmed at Bridgeport Speedway throughout the 2024 and 2025 seasons. Cameras flashed, autographs were signed, and excitement filled the air as the question everyone had been asking finally got answered:

When is the movie coming out? The answer was revealed in true Hollywood fashion. Behind flowing red curtains, a massive backdrop announced the news fans had been waiting for — PONY will make its official premiere in Spring of 2026.

Saturday only cranked the energy higher. Fans of all ages lined up to grab photos with the stars and experience their own Hollywood moment, walking the red carpet and soaking in the atmosphere. The Bridgeport booth became a nonstop destination as racers, families, sponsors, and fans poured through all day long.

Track owner and promoter Doug Rose was in constant motion, answering questions about the explosive 2026 season ahead. The buzz was everywhere — from who’s coming to race at Bridgeport to massive interest from young drivers eager to learn more about the new 1/4 midget track currently under construction at the speedway.

Meanwhile, Brittany Rose kept the booth firing on all cylinders — selling brand-new Hollywood-themed t-shirts and hoodies by Bob Hilbert Sportswear, handing out schedules for all three Bridgeport tracks, and assisting with pit parking, track memberships, and more.

With three onsite race tracks, competition for every age group, and momentum at an all-time high, Bridgeport has officially evolved into a complete Motorsports Park — and the message from the Expo was loud and clear:
