WILLIAMS DOES IT FOR DANNY IN BRIDGEPORT VICTORY!

It was the Danny Serrano Memorial Weekend at the Bridgeport Motorsports Park as the track celebrated the life of the former Race Director and friend to many racers.  There were many Danny stories told and retold over the weekend.

Demers Heating and Cooling was onboard as the weekend sponsor and loving every minute of it!

This was a race that Neal Williams really wanted to win.  “I’ve wanted to win this race for a long time,” Williams stated.  “Danny was very important to me.”  Williams credits Serrano with helping him move into the Modified ranks.

Danny Bouc and Stan Frankenfield, Jr. led the field of the Danny’s Pizza Pizzazz Modifieds to the green flag with Bouc grabbing the early race lead.  Williams quickly moved into second and set his sights on the race leader.

Bouc led the first twenty laps of the race.  Williams watched the line that the leader was racing and knew that he would be moving around, searching for a good line.  When Bouc moved his line, Williams was ready.  Williams was afraid that he might have followed him for too long.  He made his move on lap twenty-one.  A slide job in turn three and the race had a new leader.

Billy Osmun III took over second on the  next restart, just one lap after Williams took the lead.

Williams led the field to the crossed flags and picked up the $500 bonus from DeMers as the leader at halfway.  Osmun, Bouc, HJ Bunting and Cale Ross trailed the leader at halfway.

Ryan Godown raced in sixth and worked on Ross to advance his position.  On lap thirty-seven, the two drivers made contact after racing hard for the position.  Godown spun in turn two and Ross headed to the pits to change a flat tire.  They both returned to restart at the back of the field.

Sammy Martz, Jr. was on the move, taking over fifth and looking for more.

Osmun challenged for the lead on a restart on lap fifty-one but Williams crossed him over to maintain the lead.

Williams raced to the win, becoming the sixth different driver to win this event.  Osmun finished second and made his grandfather very proud.  The elder Osmun attended his first race of the year and got to see his grandson deliver a great race.  (And by the way – the years have been kind to Billy Osmun!)  Billy Osmun III has a number of second place finishes that he is so ready to trade in on a win!

Danny Bouc finished third followed by Sammy Martz, Jr. and Luke Bunting.  Dillon Steuer, the winner of last year’s event, finished sixth followed by Stan Frankenfield, Brian Papiez, Cale Ross and Ryan Godown.

Williams was not at all happy with his ride the night before.  Changes were made and Williams had a race car for the distance.  Although he did run the distance without brakes!

The Ice Less 602 Sportsman raced in a thirty-five lap Bruce Ward Memorial feature.  Ward played an important role in many of the area drivers racing careers.

Rookie, PJ Bozowski was the early race leader but Steve Kemery was on the move, challenging for the lead on lap three.  Kemery led the way over Matt Peck until lap eight when an apparent drive line problem had him come to a stop between turns three and four.

Peck became the new race leader on the restart followed by Luke Bunting, Bozowski, Adriana Delliponte and Matt Ellery.

Delliponte was going forward and looking for more.  While Peck raced through lapped traffic, Delliponte gained positions.  She closed in on Bunting and then took over second with about ten laps to go.

Peck raced to the win and the $500 halfway bonus from DeMers Heating and Cooling.  It was Peck’s fourth win of the season in the Danny Sommerling No. 51.  Delliponte finished second in her only Bridgeport start of the season.  Bunting, Ellery and Steve Davis rounded out the top five.  Ryan Anderson finished sixth followed by Jesse Hirthler, Jax Yohn, Jim Wyers and Jordan Henn.

The Victory Fuel Wingless Sprints had their second race of the weekend and it was almost an instant replay of the night before as JR  Fulper raced to his second win of the weekend – doubling his win total of the season. 2025 Track Champion,  Thomas Radivoy finished second followed by Jonathan Swanson, Rich Mellor and Stan Ploski III.

Fulper has progressed throughout his first season in an open wheel car.

Defending Track Champion, Nick Sandone III raced to his first win of the season in the Insta Signs Plus Street Stocks after a race long battle with Gary Bozowski.  A flat tire took Bozowski out of the run for the win in what was a wild night for this division.

Sandone took the win over Spider Ensinger, Jr., Scott Freed, Mike Baldwin and Bozowski  in fifth.

Joe Garey, Jr. led only the final lap in the Insta Signs Plus Four Cylinder feature to capture the win.  Backowski finished second and then crashed in turns one and two after the checkered.  Joe Garey, Sr. finished third followed by Roger Kummerer and Kelly Fleming.

NATIONAL SPOTLIGHT SHINES BRIDGEPORT, PRODUCES 18TH DIFFERENT HIGH LIMIT WINNER!

Kubota High Limit racing made its only appearance in the Garden State at the Bridgeport Motorsports Park on Saturday night.  A little cooperation from Mother Nature would have been appreciated but in spite of that, fans got to see the talented field of winged 410 sprint car drivers that travel around the country, thrilling fans wherever they go.

With weather expecting to arrive in the area later in the evening, track and High Limit management moved the start time up one hour and stuck to a tight schedule in the interest of time.

Aaron Reutzel set the fast time on the High Banks followed by Danny Sams III and Rico Abreu – the three drivers that would start fourth in each of the three heat races.  Fourth, fifth and sixth place in time trials would start on the pole in their heat races – Daison Pursley, Brad Sweet and Brett Marks.

Abreu was the winner of the last High Limit race run during the 2023 season.

Gio Scelzi, driving for the injured Tyler Courtney, Brad Sweet and Brett Marks won the three qualifiers and then joined Danny Sams, Aaron Reutzel and Rico Abreu in the Dash race.  Scelzi led every lap on his way to the win and the pole position start for the thirty lap main  event.  The field was complete when Steven Snyder, Jr. led the way in the B Main over Jordan Thomas, Chase Randall, Kyle Spence, Ricky DiEva and Preston Lattomus.

And then the rain fell.  After about a forty-five minute delay, the cars were called to the track for the A Main.

The field circled the track in a four wide salute of the fans that filled the stands at the Bridgeport Motorsports Park.  The green flag waved.

Scelzi jumped into the lead on the start followed by Sams, Sweet, Marks and Abreu.  With a lightning fast race track, it didn’t long for the leaders to catch the back of the field.  Sams was able to use the lapped traffic to his advantage as he passed Scelzi for the lead on lap eight.  Two laps later, the rain started again and the field was sent to the pits to await the final decision.

With no end in sight, the decision to cancel had to be made.  However, due to the extensive travel and many race dates, High Limit’s rules call for a complete race when a feature event has been started and suspended.  Danny Sams III, a rookie from Florida, was the race winner – his first in High Limit action.

Prior to this season, Sams had not competed with any series.  He chose his events and tracks throughout the season.  With the opportunity to compete in his family’s car, it was an opportunity that Sams wanted to take advantage of.  His mother and father are integral members of the No. 24D crew and couldn’t have been happier.

Points and purse were paid accordingly as the teams prepared for their next race at Path Valley on Sunday.

While everyone would have liked to be able to see a complete show, the racers and the fans recognized the effort that was made under the less than ideal circumstances.

Coming up – the Danny Serrano Memorial weekend – Friday and Saturday, October 3rd and 4th.

Bright Shines at Bridgeport

Kurt Bettler

September 20, 2025

Swedesboro, New Jersey (September 20, 2025)………Alex Bright has long been a star on both the USAC IMT East Coast Sprint Cars Presented by Baer Den Farms tour and on the USAC national trail.

After stepping away to launch a successful business, the Collegeville native — now settled in Bethlehem, PA — has returned to the cockpit.

And in just his second start back on Saturday night at Swedesboro, New Jersey’s Bridgeport Motorsports Park, Bright reminded everyone why his name still carries weight after charging from eighth to the front. This wasn’t dabbling for fun — it was business as usual.

At the drop of the green, Tommy Kunsman led the field from the pole with Thomas Radivoy alongside. Point leader Steven Drevicki rolled out ninth, while a red hot Chris Allen Jr. started third.

The initial start was called back, but once they got rolling, it was Radivoy showing the way early as Bright and Bobby Butler surged toward the top three. Drevicki tried a slider, spun, and was forced to the rear, while up front, a four-car battle between Radivoy, Allen, Bright, and Butler kept fans on the edge of their seats.

By lap seven, Allen took command and was looking sporty once again, but just three laps later, Bright powered by for the lead. Allen’s night came to a heartbreaking end on lap 11 when contact with the fence brought out the caution, yet another promising run gone too soon for the consistent contender.

On the restart, Bright pulled away. Fittingly, the man who once worked as an excavator operator during the construction of Doug Rose’s 3/8-mile Bridgeport Motorsports Park, now led the way on the track itself.

At halfway, it was Bright, Butler, Radivoy, and Kunsman, with Drevicki clawing his way forward. By lap 19, Drevicki had reached sixth just as Richy Carnathan slowed to a stop, setting up a six lap shootout.

When the green dropped, Butler threw everything he had at the leader, but Bright was untouchable. Bright sailed to the win, while Butler settled for second, and Drevicki muscled into the top five at the checkers.

The Hard Luck Award, sponsored by Chase Moran Motorsports, went to Chris Allen Jr. Once again, Allen had the speed to contend and was leading laps early, only to have contact with the fence end another promising night far too soon.

One thing was for certain, however. Alex Bright is officially back — and he’s back in style.
