WATT RACES TO FIRST BRIDGEPORT WIN OF THE SEASON

                                  BP-JC-6-4-16 (340)ps

2013 Bridgeport Champion, Ryan Watt raced to his first win on the 5/8 mile track on Saturday night in the Spirit Auto Center Big Block Modifed twenty-five lap feature event as he out distanced Duane Howard to the checkered flag.   Kris Lilick picked up his first win of 2016 as he raced by Scott Hitchens to take the win in the Stewart Stainless Crate/Sportsman feature.  Eddie Wagner picked up his first win in Hilborn Tri-State Race Saver Sprint Car action.  TJ Henry and Chuck Sayres, Jr. were repeat winners as Henry earned his third PennCo Tech Outlaw Stock win of the season and Sayres took his fourth consecutive DA’s Auto Body Rookie feature win.

CJ Jones took the lead at the wave of the green flag and led through lap three when Ron Roberts made hard contact with the homestretch wall, bringing out the first caution.  On the restart, it was Bob Sarkisian who moved out in front of Jones and the Overhead Door No. 0, to take the race lead as Watt, who started mid-pack, moved from sixth to second by the time the field exited turn two on lap four.  “Everybody went to the bottom of the track and I just went around the outside” was how Watt explained his advance.

With five laps scored, David Hunt slowed on the speedway and the caution flag was again displayed.  Race leader, Sarkisian, elected to restart from the outside line but Watt had command by the time the field passed the start/finish line on the restart.  Jesse Hill moved into second as Sam Martz and Howard completed the top five.  Howard moved up to third on a lap six restart with Martz and Wade Hendrickson completing the top five.  Hendrickson was forced to switch cars after qualifying and started at the back of the starting line-up and quickly raced his way into the top five.

The top five remained unchanged through the half way mark but with nine laps remaining, Howard closed in to challenge Hill for the runner-up spot.  The two drivers raced side by side as they crossed the line to complete lap sixteen with Howard wrestling the spot away from Hill on lap seventeen.  Watt had stretched a substantial lead.  Howard erased a few car lengths but was unable to close in on the leader.

Watt led the field to the checkered flag followed by Howard, Hill, Martz and Hendrickson.  Early race leader, Jones, had his best outing to date to finish sixth with Sarkisian, Richie Pratt, Jr., Jordan Watson and Scott Ambruster completing the top ten at the end of twenty-five laps.

Eddie Wagner used lapped traffic to first close in on and then race Kevin Nagy for the win in the Hilborn Tri-State Race Saver  (TSRS) Sprint car feature, his first of the season.  Reigning TSRS champion, Mike Haggenbottom, passed Nagy in the final laps for second.  After leading sixteen laps of the twenty lap feature, Nagy finished third.  Rookie driver, Logan Diehl had a strong outing to finish fourth with Rick Stief rounding out the top five.

Kris Lilick took the lead away from Scott Hitchens on lap four and raced to his first win of the season in the Stewart Stainless Crate/Sportsman.  Hitchens finished second followed by Steve Davis, Jeremy Harrington and the winner’s brother, Bob Lilick .

TJ Henry raced to his third PennCo Tech Outlaw Stock win of the season, taking the lead from Scott Dugan on lap three.  Dugan finished second after holding off the challenges of Tom Wills, Jr.  Jeff Dirkes and Jeramy Doerr finished fourth and fifth respectively.

Carney’s Point rookie driver, Chuck Sayres, Jr. won his four consecutiveBP-JC-6-4-16 (148)ps DA’s Auto Body Rookie feature of the season after racing early leader, Shannon Marshall for the lead.  Sayres took the lead from Marshall on lap three and then drove to the checkered flag at the end of eight laps.  Tom Sherby finished second after making his first ever Bridgeport Rookie start.  Marshall finished third followed by Tom Terry.

Friends of Mike & Three for All Reminder

Friends of Mike & Three for All Reminder

Bridgeport, NJ:  The 11th Annual Friends of Mike event for Big Blocks and Crate/Sportsman will be held on Wednesday, June 15.  Originally, back in January, FOM was scheduled in August.  It was then moved to the June date in February.  Unfortunately, some fans have only received the January schedule from the Motorsports Expo.  It should also be noted that Brett Deyo’s ‘Dirty Jersey 4’ has a rain date for the 15 of Wednesday.  Should Brett need that rain date or Bridgeport need that rain date, Bridgeport would then push back Friends of Mike to Thursday.  It should be a great mid-week double header for the fans and drivers in the ‘Garden State’.

The much anticipated ‘Three for All’ featuring Super Late Models, URC Sprints, and 358 Modifieds was originally scheduled for June back in January.  This event was also moved on the schedule in February to Tuesday, August 16 to avoid schedule conflicts of the original date.  Last year’s event was the most attended event in all of 2015!  Promotions have already begun to make this year’s ‘Three for All’ bigger and better than last year’s.

We hope to see everyone at Bridgeport Speedway to witness some great racing action at these two mid-week classics.

HOWARD IS THE “ACE” IN 811 DIG SAFELY POKER SERIES WIN

                                            237

Multi-time track champion, Duane Howard of Oley, PA  was the class of the field of the Spirit Auto Center Big Block Modifieds as he led the way to the checkered flag in the forty lap 811 Dig Safely sponsored second hand of the 2016 Poker Series at the Bridgeport Speedway on Wednesday night.

In addition to the $4,000 payday,  Howard earned himself an Ace for the 2016 811 Dig Safely Poker Series, joining Dominick Buffalino who won the season opener and first hand of the Poker competition.

The 2016 Bridgeport Poker Series is sponsored by Colonial Pipeline which asks you to call 8-1-1 before you dig.  Colonial’s pipelines are buried underground, usually with a minimum of three feet of cover.  Over time, however, erosion and human activities can change that depth.  That’s why is it’s important to always call 811 before you begin any digging project!

“The Thrill”, Jesse Hill, drew the pole for the Big Block Modified mainevent with Howard starting to his outside with the Atlas Trucking No. 66.  Hill led the way to the green but it was Howard who was out in front by the time the field came to the start/finish line to score the first lap.

Howard’s biggest challenge came around lap ten from Medford, NJ driver, 257Mike Iles, who was making his first appearance of the season.  Iles jumped ahead of Howard on a lap ten restart but the start was called back and Howard went back into the lead.  Iles then retired from the competition with about fifteen laps to go.

Frank Cozze brought the George Huttig No. 35 to do battle on the 5/8 mile track and took the runner-up finish while Craig VonDohren used a late race move to finish third in the Biever No. 14s.  Ryan Godown finished fourth in the Hewlett No. 901 with Rick Laubach rounding out the top five with the Gary & Lori Hermann owned No. 7.

Pete Visconti picked up his first win of the season in the Stewart Stainless Crate/Sportsman twenty lap main event to join opening day winner, Brandon Grosso, as a holder of an Ace in Poker Series competition.  After winning his heat race, Grosso was sidelined from the feature with mechanical issues.

Dave Damiano crossed the finish line in second but was later disqualified when his No. 29 failed post-race technical inspection.  That moved Ernie Miles III up to second for the best finish to date for the sophomore driver.  Brad Roberts finished third with Tom Tanner and Stephen Kemery rounding out the top five.

TJ Henry earned his first Ace of the 2016  Poker Series, picking up the win in the fifteen lap PennCo Tech Outlaw Stock Feature.  Scott Dugan made a last lap pass by 2014 Outlaw Champion, Jimmy Avery, to finish second.  Avery crossed the line in third while Tom Wills, Jr. wheeled his new mount to a fourth place finish after starting last in the field.  Gary Klimeczek finished fifth.

Chuck Sayres, Jr. picked up his third consecutive win in the DA’sAuto Body six lap Rookie Feature.  Sayres wheeled his way past pole sitter, Shannon Marshall to take the lead on the first lap and then led all the way to the checkered flag.  Marshall finished second followed by Bob Hartman and Tom Terry.

Bridgeport Speedway Sponsor Spotlight: 811 Dig Safe/Call 811

poker_811

BRIDGEPORT, NJ – When Doug Hoffman took over as the new promoter of the Bridgeport Speedway in (year), 811 Call Before You Dig offered a sponsorship proposal to both help gain awareness for their organization, and to assist a new promoter at a local dirt track to get on his feet.

“It started as a one-race promotion,” said Rob Andersen North East District Right of Way Manager at Call 811. “Doug was very receptive and was looking for sponsors to get started.”

“Over the years, we have increased promotional efforts, and have expanded to not just one race, but sponsoring a class and now the Poker Series,” Andersen said. “We step it up every year, and every year we have seen the results.”

Call 811 is a national call number for homeowners, contractors or excavators to mark out, identify utilities to make the digging process safer.

A few days before you are scheduled to begin your dig, Call 811 from anywhere in the country and disclose some of the information about your future dig. Call Before You Dig will notify all utility companies that could potentially have facilities in the area of your dig, and they will go and mark where the underground utility lines are located. With those marks, the ones doing the digging will be able to dig carefully around the markers without doing any damage.

“Bridgeport gives us an outlet to send the message to the general public,” said Andersen. “Racers and fans are involved with businesses that do excavation work, so it is a good fit.

“It’s a great fit locally, too,” Andersen added. “Colonial has a pipeline one-quarter mile outside the facility (Bridgeport Speedway).

“Local people attend the races which gets the message out through targeting Bridgeport, and the Poker Series gives us a broader audience,” said Andersen.

Years later, the partnership is one that benefits both parties. Call 811 studies show their efforts have been fruitful, and the Swedesboro, N.J. racetrack stays viable with the sponsorship.

“We’ve created a successful model that other companies and tracks should be paying attention to,” said Andersen.

SATURATED GROUNDS FORCE RESCHEDULING OF ‘PACK THE HOUSE NIGHT’ AT BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY

Packthehouse_sm

Bridgeport, NJ (May 7, 2016) – After receiving and all day rain on Friday into Saturday morning Bridgeport Speedway was left with no other option than to pull the plug on Saturday’s ‘Pack the House’ program.  All fans in attendance were set to receive FREE admission into the grandstands on Saturday while watching both 5/8 and 1/4 mile racing action.  “This is something we planned way back in December and were looking so forward to it,” admitted track owner Brian Ramey.  “We’ve had so much feed back from our fans along with new potential fans who were coming for the first time.  We’ve been lucky so far with Mother Nature in 2016 but I guess she finally caught up to us today,” Ramey added.

The feedback was so tremendous that the Bridgeport Speedway management team has decided to not let the unique promotion fall to the wayside.  The new date for ‘Pack the House’ Night will be Saturday, June 18.  A slight change in schedule has been made in order for the event to continue on as planned.  The Spirit Auto Center Big Blocks will be given the night off that Saturday, while the Pennco Tech Outlaw Stocks have been added to the racing card.  “I think with us racing a midweek show on June 15, giving the Big Blocks off a few days later was a perfect time to reschedule this promotion.  We’ve had so many people talking about this event, so it was in our best interest to reschedule it as soon as possible.” offered track manager Danny Serrano.  The 5/8 mile will see the TSRS 305 Sprint Cars, Outlaw Stocks, Stewart Stainless Supply Crate/Sportsman, and the D.A.’s Auto Body Rookies.

The inner 1/4 mile Spirit Auto Center Speedway will move their Friday program to the following day to be a part of “Pack the House” Night as well.  The wingless 600 micro sprints, winged 270, 4 cylinders, 8 cylinders enduros, and Slingshots will all be a part of the FREE admission evening.  The hot and heavy racing action will commence at 6pm on Saturday, June 18.

MILLS DEFENDS BRIDGEPORT TITLE WITH WIN

RSI_8750-M

What a better way to defend your title than by winning the first race to start the new season?

That’s exactly what “Jammin’ Jamie” Mills did with his last lap pass for the lead in the twenty-five lap Spirit Auto Center Big Block Modified Feature at the Bridgeport Speedway on Saturday night! It was Mills second win in a week as he also picked up the win in the final pre-season race just six days earlier.

It was a family affair as the race approached the finish as Jordan Watson, a nephew to feature winner, Mills, led from the green through the white flag. It was on the final lap that Mills took his Blue Hen No. 30 to the bottom of the track and drove along side of Watson as they raced into turn one for the final time. Mills had the advantage between turns one and two. Watson made a final charge as the leaders raced into turn three but Mills had the No. 30 stuck to the inside as he rolled out of turn four and drove to the checkered flag.

2012 Bridgeport Champion, Rick Laubach moved by Jesse Hill to take second on lap two but his race was short lived as smoke billowed from the Blinderman & Son No. 7 one lap later and the caution waved as Laubach slowed.

2013 Bridgeport Champion, Ryan Watt took over second from Hill on lap eleven and set his sights on Watson. The leader caught the back of the field one lap later. At half way, Watson led Watt, Hill, Wade Hendrickson and Mills. Watt was closing in on the leader as they threaded their way through lapped traffic.

Watt’s progress was slowed when he got caught behind two cars racing side by side for position. Hill and Mills caught Watt with Mills taking over third on lap nineteen. Two laps later, Mills raced by Watt for second and set sail on Watson who was well out in front. Mills chased down Watson in the final laps and caught the young driver by surprise on the final circuit.

“I didn’t know he was there,” Watson stated after the race. “My signals from the pits weren’t working too well,”

It was Mills 18th Bridgeport Speedway Big Block Modified win, moving him up to fourteenth on the All Time Feature Winners list, ahead of Craig VonDohren.

Eric Kormann took the leader from Scott Hitchens on a lap thirteen restart and never looked back as he drove to the win in the 20 lap Stewart Stainless Crate/Sportsman Feature event. Kormann moved to the outside after Steve Davis used the outside to power by both Kormann and HitRSI_8718-Mchens on a previous lap. Davis’ efforts were negated when the caution waved and the lap was not scored.

Korman became the fifth different winner in the Crate/Sportsman division so far this season. Davis finished second with Hitchens crossing the finish line in third. However, when Hitchens’ No. 65 failed a post race technical inspection, Bobby Lilick was moved up to third in his first outing of the season. Pete Visconti overcame some earlier mechanical issues to finish fourth with Jeff Bubori rounding out the top five.

Chuck Sayre picked up the win in the DA’s Auto Body Rookie feature after taking the lead from Bob Hartman on the first lap. Hartman finished second with Shannon Marshall crossing the line in third.

Kevin Nagy made his return to the Bridgeport Speedway a good one as he picked up the win in the Tri-State Race Savers twenty lap sprint car feature. Nagy, a former competitor in the Jasper Sprint Cars more than ten years ago, returned to Bridgeport and added to his earlier win total. Nagy raced his way into second with a pass by Steph Palmai on lap nine but the race leader, Christopher Allen had driven away from the field since taking the lead on lap two. When Allen experienced mechanical failure with just three laps to go, Nagy inherited the lead.

Defending TSTS Champion, Mike Haggenbottom finished second followed by Palmai, Eddie Wagner and Bryant Davis.

DCIM100GOPRO

2015 Bridgeport Champion, Jamie Mills raced to his first win of the new season with a pass by Duane Howard just four laps before the checkered flag to become the fourth different winner in Spirit Auto Center Big Block Modified action this season.  Brad Roberts earned his first win since 2013 in the Stewart Stainless Crate/Sportsman twenty lap main event – also the fourth different winner in this division.  Ron Frees won his third race of the pre-season as he was chased to the checkered flag by TJ Henry in PennCo Tech Outlaw Stock action and Chuck Sayres earned his first win in the DA’s Auto Body Rookie competition.

It was the final race of the four event pre-season that saw three drivers in each division earn ashare of $1,000 in the special point fund offered by Oliver Construction Enterprises and Oliver Communication Group, Inc.  With four top five finishes, the Ringos Rocket, Ryan Godown picked up the $500 check in the Big Block Modifieds for earning the most points during the four race pre-season.  Mills finished second for $300 – the only driver in the top three to pick up a win during the pre-season.  Rick Laubach earned $200 for his third place finish.

With one pre-season win to his credit at Bridgeport, Brandon Grosso picked up the $500 check in the Crate/Sportsman.  Roberts earned $300 for his runner-up finish while Steve Davis finished third and collected $200.  All three drivers had one pre-season win.
With three wins to his credit, Ron Frees earned the $500 check for the Outlaw Stocks.  TJ Henry – with one win, two seconds and a third – finished second while 2014 Outlaw Champion, Jim Avery finished third.
In the Spirit Auto Center Big Block Modified action, Brett Kressley and Jeff Strunk started side by side to lead the field to the green flag with Kressley jumping out to an early lead.  The early laps were interrupted by several caution flags but each time, Kressley maintained control and led the talented field of competition.  By lap five, Kressley was starting to feel some pressure from Duane Howard.  Howard raced the outside line to first take over second and then to challenge the leader.  Kressley led through the crossed flags, pulling away from Howard by several car lengths while Jamie Mills, Ryan Watt and Dominick Buffalino trailed the leaders.
Howard got the jump on Kressley on a lap fifteen double file restart that saw Mills take over second.  Howard elected the outside line on a lap eighteen restart, leaving Mills his preferred line on the inside.  Howard and Mills raced side by side before Howard was able to edge ahead as the completed the next lap.  But on lap twenty-one, Mills put his Blue Hen No. 30 on the inside and drove by Howard to take the lead.
Mills led the way to the checkered flag followed by Howard, Godown, Buffalino and Rick Laubach.
Justin Lilick made his first start of the 2016 season and led the Stewart Stainless Crate/Sportsman Feature for fifteen laps before Brad Roberts took the lead on lap sixteen and headed tothe checkered flag at the end of twenty laps for his first win of the season.  Lilick finished second while Steve Davis drove across the line in third.  Brandon Grosso and opening night winnePM_BPort_04_24_16-32r, Jeremy Harrington rounded out the top five at the finish line.
Billy Wroble led the first five laps of the PennCo Tech Outlaw Stock main event with Ron Frees racing by on the inside to complete lap number six.  Frees had it all his way for the rest of the race until TJ Henry came to life late in the race.  Henry raced Frees hard on the final lap with the two drivers crossing the line together.  Frees took the win by about a half of car length.  Wroble finished third with Spider Ensinger and Brian Ludwig picking up top five finishes.
Bob Hartman took the lead from Shannon Marshall at the start of the eight lap DA’s Auto Body Rookie Feature and led the first circuit before Chuck Sayre got by on lap two to take the lead.  It was all Sayre to the checkered with Tom Terry taking second from Hartman just before the checkered.
The Bridgeport Speedway switches to Saturday night racing this Saturday with the start of the 2016 Championship season.  The Big Block Modifieds, Crate/Sportsman and Rookies will be joined by the TSRS Sprint Cars for a four division show that gets underway at 6pm.
