Weather wins again in South Jersey

Bridgeport, NJ – Weather wins again in South Jersey. Due to the dismal forecast and pop up thunderstorms Bridgeport Speedway has been forced to cancel the Joy Auto Parts – ‘Powder Puff’ event.

“I feel like we just keep hitting the repeat button this season,” offered track owner Brian Ramey. “We were fortunate enough to get in back to back Saturdays and now we’re forced with the though decision to cancel today,” Ramey added.

Bridgeport’s 5/8 will be back in action on Tuesday, Aug 21 for Hand 3 of the 811 Dig Safe Poker Series. The Spirit Auto Center Big Blocks will race in a 40-lap affair paying $4,000 to the winner. The Stewart Stainless 602 Crate-Sportsman will join the Big Blocks on Tuesday.

PAUCH RACES WATT TO CHECKERED FOR THIRD BRIDGEPORT WIN OF THE SEASON

Billy Pauch raced to his third win of the season and sixty-second career victory at the Bridgeport Speedway by leading reigning Spirit Auto Center Big Block Modified Champion, Ryan Watt, to the checkered flag at the end of twenty-five laps on Bridgeport’s Bike Night.  Jim Gallagher, Jr. led the Stewart Stainless 602 Crate Sportsman field to the finish line for his second win of the season while Rick Stief earned his first victory of 2018 in the Delaware Auto Exchange Mid Atlantic Sprint Series (MASS) feature.
After a wild homestretch wreck a week ago that saw Pauch’s No. 1 return to the pits on the back of a wrecker, the seasoned veteran admitted to taking the first lap this week in a more conservative manner.  “I know that I’ve got to get to the front first to beat Ryan Watt but after last week, I just kind of followed the car in front of me at the start,” Pauch explained.  But in spite of that conservative outlook, Pauch raced into the lead as he and Dave Shirk crossed the start/finish line to complete lap number four.  Brett Ballard, making his first appearance of the season in his own No. 5B led laps one and two before Shirk took the lead on lap three.
Pauch started outside the sixth row, just one spot aheadof Watt on the initial start.  Watt tried to go to the outside early but lost several positions as he struggled with a car that was ” too tight for the track.”
Ten consecutive green flag laps saw Pauch well out in front of the field before Butch Tittle drew a caution just before half way.  That restart closed up the field as Jim Britt, Wade Hendrickson, Watt and Tommy Beamer trailed Pauch, the race leader.  Pauch drove away on the restart as Watt took on Hendrickson and then Britt to race into second on lap fourteen.  Watt searched for the fastest way around the 5/8th mile track as he began to gain on Pauch before the caution was needed for Sam Martz with seventeen laps scored.
That restart put Pauch and Watt side by side – Pauch’s lead erased –  but Pauch was on his game as he raced away at the wave of the green.  Watt tried everything he could to challenge the leader in those final laps but at the end of twenty-five trips around the Bridgeport Speedway, it was Pauch with the win over Watt, Hendrickson, Britt and Beamer.  Mike Franz had a strong outing to finish sixth followed by Ronnie Roberts, Richie Pratt who overcame mechanical issues to finish eighth, Dave Shirk and Jack Swain.
2017 Rookie Champion, Jim Gallagher drove a flawless twenty laps to capture his second win of the season in the 602 Crate Sportsman division.  Gallagher outgunned Roger Gaskill on the start to take the lead as he led flag to flag for the win.  Tommy Errico, Jr. raced into second as the field raced down the backstretch on the initial start and kept Gallagher on his radar for the remainder of the race but with the benefit of clean air, Gallagher was able to stretch his lead over the field.
Gallagher took the win over Errico with point leader, Eric Kormann racing to a third place finish from his tenth place start.  Bobby Bracall finished a strong fourth with Connor King coming a long way at the finish to take fifth from Sammy Martz, Jr. on the final lap.  Martz finished sixth followed by Chris Jenkins, Wayne Weaver, Tom Sherby and Brad Roberts.
Rick Stief came “home” to the Bridgeport Speedway to make his first visit to Victory Lane of the 2018 season in MASS 305 Sprint car action.  Stief, a graduate of Bridgeport micro sprint racing, led from the green to the checkered for the win over Brendon Poff.  Jeff Geiges raced to a third place finish followed by Tim Tanner and Kyle Purks.  Both Tanner and sixth place finisher, Tom Carberry, Sr. advanced the most positions in the twenty lap event.
Action returns to the Bridgeport Speedway for Powder Puff night this coming Saturday.  The Big Block Modifieds, 602 Crate Sportsman and Outlaw Stocks will battle it out before the women get their chance in the Powder Puff events.  The Vintage Cars will also be on hand for this event.  Racing gets underway at 7pm.

WATT CHARGES FROM THE BACK FOR THIRD BRIDGEPORT VICTORY

After a flat tire and a broken shock that required two trips to the pits and restarting at the rear of the field not once but twice, reigning Spirit Auto Center Big Block Modified Champion, Ryan Watt charged into the lead on lap seventeen and drove to his third Bridgeport win of the season.  Tom Sherby’s late race pass saw the former Rookie contender capture his first career victory in Stewart Stainless 602 Crate Sportsman action while Tom Wills Jr returned to Victory Lane for his second win of the season.
The full moon certainly played a part in Saturday night’s action, from qualifying right through the feature events.
It took three complete restarts before lap one could be recorded in the Big Block Modified twenty-five lap feature event but not before Tom Beamer, Billy Pauch, Bill Lasko, Ernie Miles III and Dave Shirk were involved in a homestretch incident after contact sent Beamer across the track and into the wall where he ended up on top of Pauch’s No. 1.  Lasko was collected in the melee and went over – his car being the most heavily damaged and miraculously, the only car that was unable to continue.  Both Beamer and Pauch went to the pits on the back of tow trucks with Beamer returning before the race was restarted.  Pauch was able to return several laps later.
Roger Manning took the lead at the start with Jack Swain and Sam Martz in hot pursuit.  By lap five, Neal Williams had raced the Sal DeBruno Overhead Door No. 0 into third.  Williams pursued Martz for second and then took the lead from Manning on lap eleven.  At this point, Watt had been to the pits twice – once for a flat tire on lap one and then again on lap three with a broken right front shock.  Quick work by his crew had Watt back out before the green.
Using his telltale high, outside line, Watt raced through the pack.  He was in the top ten when Williams took the lead and broke into the top five just two laps later.  Martz challenged Williams for the lead at the race’s half way mark.
Watt took over second on lap sixteen and then set his sights on Williams, taking the lead on lap seventeen.
Watt raced to the checkered for the win followed by Martz and Wade Hendrickson for third.  Hendrickson raced a brand new car out of the Rio Stable.  The beautiful red and white No. R10 set fast time during warm-ups and then to a third place finish right out of the box.  Williams finished fourth with Swain completing the top five.  Dave Hunt finished sixth in the Horton No. 76 followed by Beamer who rebounded to a seventh place finish, followed by Ron Roberts, Jim Britt and Mike Franz.
Frank Dorry used the outside line to perfection to race into the lead in the 602 Crate Sportsman feature.  Dorry looked like he was on his way to his first win of the season as he led Tom Sherby through lap fifteen.  But Sherby was closing and raced into the lead after the two to go sign as the leaders raced off of turn two.  After leading just two laps, Sherby collected his first win over Wayne Weaver, Dorry, Tommy Errico, Jr. and Bobby Bracall.  Eric Kormann, Tom Moore, Jim Gallagher, Jr., Chris Jenkins and David  Crossman rounded out the top ten.
Tom Wills, Jr. raced into the lead on lap four of the Outlaw Stock feature event and then led the rest of the way over Brian Ludwig and Jeramy Doerr to capture his second win of the season.  Darren Cox was the early race leader and battled with Wills for the position.  Lee Allen finished fourth with Gary Klimeczek taking fifth.
Action returns to the Bridgeport Speedway next Saturday for Bike Night with bicycle give-aways for some lucky youngsters and free admission and prizes for fans arriving at the track on their motorcycles.  The Big Block Modifieds and 602 Crate Sportsman return to the 5/8th mile track for more exciting action along with the 305 Sprint Cars of the Mid Atlantic Sprint Series.  Racing gets underway at 7pm.

Bridgeport Speedway Loses Saturday Program to Mother Nature

Bridgeport, NJ – With morning showers and a heavy, steady rainfall predicted to last throughout the entire day, Bridgeport Speedway was forced to cancel their annual ‘Driver Appreciation Night’ sponsored by Joy Auto Parts.  “Just like I said on Monday, we race then it rains again.  It’s difficult to get some momentum going,” offered general manager Danny Serrano.  “We had an awesome show here on Wednesday on the 3/8 and last night on the 1/4 mile but, I guess the 5/8 wasn’t in the cards this time.  We had a great BBQ planned for all the drivers to thank them for their support and I know Mr. Luzi from Joy Auto’s gotta be bummed as he was looking to have a great night out with his company,” Serrano added.

Bridgeport’s 5/8 will swing back in action next Saturday night July, 28 with ‘Mechanics Night’ with the Spirit Auto Center Big Blocks, Stewart Stainless 602 Crate Sportsman, and Pennco Tech Outlaw Stocks.  The mechanics/crew chiefs will get their shot in the limelight on the 1/4 mile at the conclusion of the evening in each of the divisions next week.  Drivers and crews should keep an eye out to the rescheduled date for the driver appreciation BBQ which will be announced as soon as a date is locked in.  For more information you can visit www.bpspeedway.com, follow the track on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Bridgeport Utilizes Wednesday Rain Date for “Three for All”

Bridgeport, NJ – Bridgeport Speedway has decided to push back Tuesday’s racing program to their original scheduled rain date of Wednesday, July 18.  The Super Late Models, 358 small blocks, and USAC East Coast wingless 360 sprint cars will now thrill the crowd a day later on the all new Design for Vision/Sunglass Central 3/8 mile.

“And the trend continues here for us,” offered general manager Danny Serrano.  “We were off this weekend and it was gorgeous weather of course….come back Tuesday and the forecast says 100% chance of thunderstorms.  However, the silver lining in all of this is that Wednesdaylooks picture perfect for racing.  It’s gonna be a hell of show and we’ve got tons of drivers that can’t wait to try out the new 3/8.  We’ve been out there prepping it all day and this way we’ll be ready for Wednesday now,” Serrano added.  “It’s not often you can see guys like Austin Hubbard, Billy Pauch, Eddie Strada, Kyle Hardy, Jeff Strunk, Mike Gular, Mark Bitner, Ryan Godown, Amanda Whaley, Coleby Frye, and Bernheisel all in one night!”

Pit gates open at 3pm while grandstands open at 5pm.  Hot laps take place at 6:15 and racing begins at 7:15 pm.  For more information please visit www.bpspeedway.com or check us out on Facebook, Twitter, and instagram.

PRATT RACES TO WIN IN EXCITING MODIFIED ACTION

The temperatures may have cooled for the weekend but the racing action was still red hot when the Spirit Auto Center Big Block Modifieds took to the 5/8th mile Bridgeport Speedway on Saturday night.
Take one driver in search of his first ever Big Block Modiifed victory, add three more drivers looking for their first Bridgeport wins of the season and add a reigning track champion to the mix and you get one fantastic feature event that came right downto the final lap and the race to the checkered flag.
Polesitter, Ricky Dieva has been doing his homework – putting in extra time and effort to improve the performance of the DiEva Auto Body No. 85.  DiEva took the lead at the wave of the green flag and led the way for twenty-one laps of the main event, racing ahead of Neal Williams for the distance.
Without the benefit of a rear view mirror, DiEva had no idea what was going on behind him as Richie Pratt, Jr. wheeled the Leach Associates/Overhead Door of South Jersey sponsored No. 28 to the high line and began to pick off positions in the top five.  On lap sixteen, Pratt took advantage of the situation when Jim Britt made contact with the inside wall to race into third.  With five to go, Williams was closing the gap on DiEva but it was Pratt who raced to the outside of Williams in Sal DeBruno’s No. 0 to take over second one lap later.  Pratt raced to the outside of DiEva on lap twenty-two to take the lead.
Even a yellow flag with three laps to go would not deter Pratt who raced to his first Bridgeport win of the 2018 season as a hard charging Ryan Watt raced from fourth to second in the final laps.  Williams finished third followed by Britt and Tommy Beamer.  DiEva, Billy Pauch, Ronnie Roberts, Wade Hendrickson and Jimmy Horton rounded out the top ten.
Parker Guldin raced to the win in the Stewart Stainless 602 Crate Sportsman, becoming the first graduate of this year’s DA’s Auto Body & Repair Rookies to go to Victory Lane since graduation.  As a matter of fact, this season’s Rookies were the show, taking advantage of being handicapped with the rest of the field.  Trailing Guldin at the checkered was Sammy Martz, Jr., Danny Buccafusca – making it a 1-2-3 Rookie finish.  Tom Moore finished fourth with David Crossman rounding out the top five.
Ryan Stillwaggon raced to his first Delaware Auto Exchange Mid Atlantic Sprint Series win of the season in the Quality Auto Body No. 11.  Stillwaggon led from the green to the checkered, taking the win over Tim Tanner in the Tanner Dairy Store No. 18.  After a two year absence, Kyle Purks returned to action with a third place finish.  Rick Stief finished fourth with Tom Carberry, Sr. rounding out the top five after a back and forth battle with Eddie Wagner for the position.
The Bridgeport Speedway will be idle next weekend in preparation for the fourth running of the Three for All event on Tuesday, July 17th.  The Super Late Models, Small Block Modifieds and USAC East Coast Sprint Cars on the Design for Vision/Sunglass Central 3/8th mile track.  Racing gets underway at 7:15pm.

PAUCH SCORES SECOND WIN OF SEASON IN BRIDGEPORT BIG BLOCKS

After a frustrating 2017 season, Billy Pauch picked up his second win of the current season when he raced by Wade Hendrickson in the final laps of the Spirit Auto Center Big Block Modified feature event on Saturday night.

Hendrickson had the Pat Michael owned No. 51m out in front from the first lap and had stretched his lead over the field when the race ran from lap four to the completion of lap nineteen without a caution.  Then Ryan Godown and the Atlas Trucking No. 66 came to a stop between turns three and four, bringing out the caution and setting up a shootout to determine the race’s outcome.

Hendrickson led the way on the restart.  Pauch quickly moved by Britt for second as Ryan Watt raced into third after racing his way back after an unscheduled pit stop on lap four.  Pauch pressured Hendrickson when the green flag waved, taking the lead as the two lifelong friends raced out of turn two on lap twenty-two.  Wattalso raced by Hendrickson to take over second but Pauch had quickly pulled away and raced to the checkered for his 61st career Bridgeport victory.  Pauch is third on the All Time Feature Winner’s list, behind Jimmy Horton and Doug Hoffman and three wins ahead of Hendrickson.

Hendrickson crossed the finish line in third with Richie Pratt, Jr. finishing fourth and Dave Hunt rounding out the top five as Hunt’s power plant expired as he crossed the finish line.  Jim Britt, Mike Franz, Jack Swain, Bucky Kell and Brandon Grosso rounded out the top ten.

“I needed that restart,” Pauch explained after the win.  “I never would have gotten Wade if it hadn’t been for that yellow.”  “I know how much Wade wanted that win,” Pauch continued, “I’ve been there too.”  Pauch dedicated his win to the late Dick “Toby” Tobias who lost his life in a racing accident forty years ago.

Brad Roberts led every lap of the Stewart Stainless 602 Crate Sportsman feature event to capture his second win of the season in just under seven and a half minutes in a race that ran from green to checkered without a caution.  Eric Kormann raced in second but was unable to close in on the leader.   Chris Jenkins held off Wayne Weaver to take third with Tom Moore finishing fifth.  Frank Dorry, David Crossman, Tommy Errico, Danny Buccafusca and Connor King rounded out the top ten.

In a race that saw four lead changes among three drivers, Jeramy Doerr raced to another win in the Pennco Tech Outlaw Stock feature event.  Darren Cox led the way for the first five laps before Doerr took over but Brian Ludwig took the lead for one lap following a lap seven restart before Doerr raced back out in front.  Tom Wills, Jr. raced by Ludwig for second late in the race with Ludwig taking third over Mike Creamer and Jeff Dirkes.

Sammy Martz, Jr. continued a family tradition when he raced to his second win of the season in the DA’s Auto Body & Repair Rookie feature event on his way to capturing the 2018 Rookie Championship.  The third generation driver is the son of a former Rookie Champion – his dad, Sam Martz was the 1990 Rookie Champion at the Flemington Speedway.  Martz took the lead from Seth Spayd on lap eight of the twelve lap feature event.  Spayd finished second over Parker Guldin and Danny Buccafusca.

There is no racing at the Bridgeport Speedway this Saturday night in preparation of the All American 40 to be held on Sunday, July 1st.  The Big Block Modifieds, 602 Crate Sportsman and Pennco Tech Outlaw Stocks will race in the second hand of the 811 Dig Safe Poker Series race, sponsored by Colonial Pipeline.  Racing gets underway at 7pm.

POKER SERIES RETURNS TO BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY FOR THE ALL AMERICAN 40

The 2018 811 Dig Safe Poker Series returns to the Bridgeport Speedway this Sunday, July 1st for the second hand of this year’s competition.  The 5/8th mile speedway will host a 4×4 Misfits Show on Saturday with racing moving to Sunday prior to the Fourth of July Holiday for the running of the All American 40.
Going into the second hand of this year’s competition, race winners, Ryan Watt, Adam McAuliffe and Rich Stinson, Jr. each hold an Ace in their Poker hands.  By virtue of their pre-season point championships on the Design for Vision/Sunglass Central 3/8th mile track at Bridgeport, Jeff Strunk, Tommy Sheetz, Sr. and Jeramy Doerr will also start the second hand of the competition with an Ace.
Watt was the race winner on opening weekend when he capture the 60 Over Special  – Doug Hoffman Memorial race.  Invader, Adam McAuliffe traveled from his home in New York to compete and pick up his first ever Bridgeport victory.  Rich Stinson, Jr. took over the driving chores of his dad’s No. 27 for the opening day win.
Jeff Strunk and the Hyneman No. 126 were unstoppable, picking up two early season wins on the new racing surface.  Sheetz won his pre-season title based upon his consistent finishes in both events when the third race was cancelled due to weather.  Jeramy Doerr was the first and only Outlaw Stock feature winner on the 3/8th mile track.
The Poker Series events are scheduled on non-regular race days to allow competitors from throughout the Northeast to compete.  The Poker Series was brought to the Bridgeport Speedway during the 2012 season when Doug Hoffman became the race promoter at a track that was his Saturday night home for many seasons during his racing career.
Colonial Pipeline returns as the sponsor of the Poker Series for the third season.  Colonial Pipeline asks that you call 8-1-1 before you dig.  It’s important to always call 8-1-1 before you begin any digging project, no matter how large or small.  Just dial 8-1-1 a few days before beginning to notify your local one-call center of your intent to dig.  A representative from your local one-call center will ask for your location and description of your digging project.  They will then notify all of the affected utility companies who will send a professional locator to the proposed dig site to mark the approximate location of your underground lines.  It’s simple.  It’s free and it’s the law.
Premio Foods will offer a Buy 1, Get 1 FREE Sausage Sandwich as the official sausage of the Bridgeport Speedway.  There will be a Sausage eating contest with $100 going to the winner.  Anyone wearing a Martz Motorsports No. 3 shirt will receive a free sausage sandwich, courtesy of Premio Foods.
Pit gates open at 4pm with grandstands opening one hour later at 5.  Racing gets underway at 7pm.  General admission is $25, kids 10-15 are $10 and children 9 and under are admitted free.
As always, plan to arrive early and enjoy all that the Bridgeport Speedway has to offer!  Live music, great concessions, a Bounce House and a big wooden monster truck for the kids to play on and as always, rides to the pits on the Bandit Bus for a look behind the scenes before the racing gets underway.  Take home a Bridgeport Speedway souvenir or a copy of the Bridgeport Bullet, the official program of the Bridgeport Speedway.
The Bridgeport Speedway continues to provide a safe, fun and family oriented environment for the world’s greatest racing entertainment.

KEVIN THOMAS JR. TAMES THE EASTERN STORM AT BRIDGEPORT

Current point leader in USAC Amsoil National Sprint Car Series points, Kevin Thomas, Jr. raced to his fourth win of the season when the Eastern Storm raced on the Design for Vision/Sunglass Central 3/8th mile track at the Bridgeport Speedway.  Thomas powered the Hoffman Auto Racing/Dynamics, Inc. No. 69 into the lead and never looked back as he came within one point of Eastern Storm series point leader, Chris Windom.

This event marked the first time that USAC had raced at the Bridgeport Speedway and the event was deemed a huge success.  “You can’t ask for much more than that,” said USAC’s Levi Jones after the checkered flag.  “There was a good crowd who got to see the greatest names in USAC.  You can’t ask for it to be much better than that!”
Chad Boespflug led field for lap one before Chris Windom made the pass for the lead on the second circuit.  Tyler Courtney moved into second one lap later and immediately used the high line around the 3/8th mile to challenge for the lead.  Windom led Courtney, Chase Stockon, Thomas and Boespflug through lap five.
The caution waved on lap seven when Robert Bell slowed, bringing the field back together for the restart.  Courtney went right to work on Windom and the two drivers crossed the start/finish line side by side on lap eight.  Courtney was the race leader for laps nine and ten, leading Windom and now Thomas through ten laps scored.
Windom reclaimed the lead with a pass to the inside as he and Courtney raced down the backstretch on lap eleven.  The second caution came with eleven laps scored when Jaret Andretti ran into trouble in turns three and four.
Courtney was all over Windom on the restart, using the outside to challenge for the lead.  Racing contact was made between the two leaders, giving third place Thomas the opportunity he needed to move into the lead.  “I’m not sure if I could have passed them on my own,” Thomas related during his post-race interview.  Courtney lost several positions as Windom continued in second.
Robert Ballou – “The Madman” – was on the move through the middle of the race, making his way through the top five.  With ten laps to go, Thomas led Windom, Stockon, Ballou and Courtney.
Thomas clicked off the final laps without a challenge, leading Windom and Courtney to the checkered flag, followed by Brady Bacon and Stockon.   Ballou, Dave Darland, Justin Grant, Thomas Meseraull and Isaac Chapple rounded out the top ten.
Race winner, Thomas had looked forward to being able to run on a new track and he wasn’t disappointed.  “This was a fun race,” Thomas explained following his win.  “It reminds be of a track back home – Gas City.  It’s a little bigger but it’s D shaped like Gas City.  The track was really racey.  “
The winged 600 Micro Sprints competed in their first ever event on the 3/8 mile surface with Mike Rutherford leading all of the way in the twenty lap main event.  Alex Bright made a late race move to finish second followed by Jason Swavely, Heath Hehnley and Tommy Kunsman.
Race winner, Thomas set fast time, circling the 3/8th mile track in 16.013 seconds.  Brady Bacon was the winner of the Simpson-Race Products Heat No. 1.  Chase Stockon picked up the win in the Competition Suspension second heat with the win in the Chalk Stix/Indy Race Parts third heat going to Robert Ballou.

CHECK THE RADAR – EASTERN STORM IS HEADED FOR BRIDGEPORT

History will be made at the Design for Vision/Sunglass Central 3/8th mile track at the Bridgeport Speedway on Monday, June 18th when the wingless 410 sprint cars of the United Auto Racing Club (USAC) make their way to New Jersey for their one and only appearance in the Garden State this season.

It will mark the first time that the USAC competitors have raced at the Bridgeport Speedway in the history of the racing facility.  They will also be the first wingless open cockpit cars to compete on the new 3/8th mile track.  The 600cc Micro Sprints will put on the wings to be part of this double header production.

Tyler Courtney – the driver of the Clauson/Marshall/Newman #7BC – leads the USAC competitors with four victories before the start of the six race Eastern Storm, picking up a win at Knoxville just days before.  While Courtney leads in the win column, it is Kevin Thomas Jr. who leads in points with the Dynamics, Inc. No. 69.  Thomas has collected three wins so far this season.  Chase Stockton, the People’s Champ, Dave Darland, Brady Bacon and Chris Windom have each captured one victory so far this season.  Trailing Thomas & Courtney in points are Windom, Stockton, CJ Leary, Robert Ballou, Bacon, Darland, Justin Grant and Chad Boespflug.  That is just a few of the stars of USAC that fans will have the opportunity to see in action on the new Design for Vision/Sunglass Central 3/8th mile speedway!

The Winged 600 Micro Sprints will provide plenty of side by side racing of their own when they take to the 3/8th mile surface for the first time.

Pit gates open at 3pm with grandstands at 5pm.  Racing gets underway at 7:30pm.  Reserved seating is available for $35.  General admission to the grandstand will be $30 with kids 10-15 for $15 and children 9 and under will be admitted for free.  Pit admission will be $40.
