GODOWN & HUGHES WITH SECOND WINS WHILE PAPIEZ GETS FIRST

Bridgeport, NJ – Ryan Godown and Mike Hughes raced to their second Bridgeport Motorsports Park wins of the 2022 season on DA’s Auto Body & Repair night while Brian Papiez put the Adams Motorsports No. 37 into Weaknecht Archery Victory Lane for the very first time.

The win for Godown was a tough one. “I didn’t think I was going to get there in time,” the defending track champion said after the win. Godown led only the final two laps of the thirty lap feature.

Jordan Watson and Davey Sammons led the starting field to the wave of the green flag and Sammons quickly claimed the lead as the field raced out of turn two. Dominick Buffalino dove to the inside of Watson in turn three and came away with second the Danny’s Pizza Pizzazz Modifieds headed to the stripe to complete lap one. Sammons continued to lead through lap five with Buffalino, Jordan Watson, Jim Gallagher and Ryan Watt racing in the top five.

Buffalino drove the Big Spring Car Wash No. 126 into the lead on lap six and wasted no time driving away from the field. The running order remained the same through lap ten as the leader caught up to the back of the field.

With each lap, Buffalino seemed to extend his lead as the top five remained the same. Ryan Godown, Billy Pauch, Jr. and Richie Pratt, Jr. were wheel to wheel, using the track’s multiple lanes to better their positions, looking to break into the top five. Buffalino took the crossed flags over Sammons, Watson, Gallagher and Watt while Neal Williams and Godown raced just outside the top five.

Williams picked up a spot as he raced by Watt just before the caution waved for the race leader. Buffalino’s night ended as he came to a stop on the homestretch with mechanical issues and Sammons led the way back to the green flag.

Williams and Godown raced up to second and third on the lap twenty restart with Watson and Pratt completing the top five. Godown took over second with Sammons next on his radar. Five laps to go and Sammons raced out in front of Godown, Williams, Pratt, Jr. and Watson.

Time was running out for the defending track champion as Sammons led the way. With two to go, Godown took the lead, shooting by Sammons out of turn two. Williams raced Sammons door to door to the checkered and picked up a second place finish with Sal DeBruno’s No. 0. Sammons finished third followed by Pratt and Watson. Pauch, Jr. finished sixth followed by Watt, Joseph Watson, Clay Butler and Alex Yankowski behind the wheel of the iconic Rio Brothers R10.

It was a satisfying race for Williams. “We’re right there – we’re good,” Williams stated at the end of thirty laps. It was a learning experience for Sammons who has collected a number of runner-up finishes at Bridgeport but that first win still eludes him. “We knew we weren’t going to our best at the end,” Sammons related, “but we have to learn.”

The F&L Door Modified heats were won by Williams, Jordan Watson and Joseph Watson.

It hasn’t been an easy start of the 2022 season for Brian Papiez. A flat tire deprived him of a win during the opener. Wednesday night the No. 37 team changed a driveline between the heat and feature. But that led the team to take a closer look and it all paid off with a win on Saturday night.

2021 DA’s Auto Body & Repair Rookie Champion, Ethan Bill led the first seven laps of the Precision Hydraulics & Oil 602 Sportsman feature. Papiez got by on a lap eight restart. Ryan Godown, Jr. raced in third and challenged Bill for second but Bill was not to be denied as he raced to the checkered behind Papiez. Godown, Jr. finished third followed by Sammy Martz, Jr. and Wayne Weaver. Howie Finch finished in sixth followed by Travis Hill, Stephen Yankowski, Jim Dallett and Matt Ellery.

Hoffman’s Discount Parts 602 heats were won by Howie Finch, Wayne Weaver and Papiez with Matt Ellery winning the consolation.

Mike Hughes dominated the field in the Rent Equip Party Central Street Stocks. Jeramy Doerr had a strong race to finish second over Kyle Saylor, Tom Wills, Jr. and Lee Allen.

In a true show of sportsmanship, Nick Sandone came to the rescue at the end of the week when Hughes discovered that he had a broken brake rotor. Hughes knew that it wasn’t likely that the part would arrive in time for the weekend and placed a call to Sandone. Hughes knew that Sandone had a new rear assembled to go into his car. Sandone generously offered the rotor to Hughes and the No. 18 raced to its second win of the season.

Jeramy Doerr was the winner of the Rent Equip Party Central Street Stock heat race.

Chris Carroll drove to the checkered in the twelve lap Four Cylinder feature for his first win of the season. Bobby Johnson was the race leader for the first five times around the high banks. Carroll took the lead and lap six land led the way to the checkered. Joe Garey, Jr. finished second followed by Scott Dunn, Chris Gall and Ed Ford.

Scott Dunn picked up the win in the Cassidy’s Painting Four Cylinder heat race.

The Rapid Tire USAC East Coast Wingless Sprints and Delaware Auto Exchange Mid Atlantic Sprint Series joined the Precision Hydraulic 602 Sportsman and the Bridgeport Street Stocks for Saturday night action. The Danny’s Pizza Pizzazz Modifieds are idle on Saturday night as the prepare for the King of the Big Blocks/Super DIRTcar event on Tuesday, May 3, 2022.

RECORDS FALL WHEN PA POSSE COMES TO BRIDGEPORT

Bridgeport, NJ – Did you hear the noise?


If you were in the area of the Bridgeport Motorsports Park on Wednesday evening, then you most certainly heard the noise! It was the sound of records being broken by the PA Posse 410 Sprint Cars on Specialty Rigging Night at the Bridgeport Speedway.


The “Concrete Kid”, Anthony Macri set the one lap record on the high banks of the Bridgeport Speedway during last year’s Invasion of the PA Posse event. That record was 13.581 seconds around the four tenth mile speedway. But that record fell on Wednesday night – not once – but repeatedly throughout the evening.


The driver of the Hendrick Motorsports No. 48 Ally Chevy Camaro was in the first group of timed hot laps and he promptly set fast time with his time of 13.092 – shaving about a half second off the previous record. Alex Bowman’s fast time only lasted until the second group of cars hit the clocks. Fourteen other drivers beat the original record but it was Brent Marks of Myerstown, PA who surpassed all other competitors and established the new one lap record of 12.705.


Kyle Reinhardt was the winner of the Dash in his Capitol Renegade No. 91, earning him the pole position for the thirty lap main event. When the green flag waved, it was Marks who charged into the lead from the outside pole and then drove away from the stellar field.


Marks set a torrid pace as he flawlessly raced through traffic as the green flag laps were scored. Justin Peck, the 22 year old driver from Monrovia, IN raced by Reinhardt to take over second. With ten laps on the books when Justin Peck made contact with the car driven by the “Outback Outlaw”, Linton Jeffries between turns three and four. Jeffries was done for the night but Peck’s crew made fast work of doing what they could to repair a right rear shock and change a tire, sending Peck back out to rejoin at the rear of the field.


Marks continued to pace the field with Macri, Reinhardt, Freddie Rahmer, Jr. and Bowman making up the top five through halfway. Briggs Danner of Allentown, PA raced just outside the top five and battled with Ryan Smith throughout the race. It was Danner’s first ever race in a 410 winged sprint car.


As the laps counted down, everyone’s eyes were on Peck’s yellow No. 13 as he raced through the pack and into the top five.
Marks took the five to go sign followed by Macri, Reinhardt, Rahmer and Peck. Christopher Bell had the Swindoll Speed Lab No. 39 challenging for position late in the race as he ran just outside the top five.


With just one lap to go, Marks slowed on the track. The closing rate was so significant that Macri tagged Marks’ No. 19, spun, did a 360 and never stopped. Marks was out of fuel and his quest for the win fell one lap short. Macri thought, at first, that it was the checkered flag and so Marks backed out of the throttle.


Macri led the field to the restart for the final lap. Macri scored the win followed by Peck who took over second in the final lap. Reinhardt finished third followed by Bell and Rahmer. Ryan Smith finished sixth after some late race passes followed by Parker Price Miller, Briggs Danner, Bowman and Marks.


The was Macri’s third in less than a week and there’s no doubt he likes the high banks of the Bridgeport Speedway. “It’s really a fun track,” Macri commented after collecting the $7,500 winner’s share of the purse. Macri had a pair of podium finishes in 410 events at Bridgeport last season as well as a win in the United Racing Club season finale behind the Christopher Dyson No. 20. Macri plans to race the remaining 410 shows at Bridgeport – including the World of Outlaw show on May 17th. Macri related that the lapped traffic was a little trickier than usual during the thirty lap feature event.
Peck’s run from the back was certainly a crowd pleaser. “I think I ran about the last ten laps without a right rear shock,” the speedster stated. Peck talked about the contact between himself and Jeffries. “I ran up on him so fast – I just misjudged it. I was really able to move around and Cowboy up!” Peck is also expected to return for the World of Outlaws show next month.


Kyle Reinhardt was disappointed with his third place run after starting on the pole but the driver admitted to struggling the first half of the race. “I don’t know if it was the full load of fuel or what,” Reinhardt explained but he did feel that they were a third place car.


The Precision Hydraulics & Oil 602 Sportsman competed in a twenty-five lap feature event and it was Joe Toth in the Belmont’s Garage No. 14 who took home the $2,000 paycheck. Brandon Edgar was the early race leader until Toth came through to challenge. Toth was the race leader after five laps.


Edgar was still pressuring Toth when the caution waved with five laps to go. James Hill got turned around between turns one and two. The field was realigned for a single file restart. Toth not only executed a great restart but was then able to pull away from Edgar by several car lengths.


Toth took the win over Edgar, Craig Whitmoyer, Joseph Brown and Sammy Martz, Jr. who took the spot from for the top five in the final laps. Travis Hill finished sixth with Steve Kemery, Brian Papiez, Steve Davis and Matt Ellery rounding out the top ten.


Action returns to the high banks on Saturday for Modifieds, 602 Sportsman, Street Stocks and 4 cylinder Enduro cars.

GODOWN, NAGY & DIRKES ARE EASTER EVE HIGH BANKS WINNERS

​Bridgeport, NJ – The Bridgeport Motorsports Park beat the weather and 2021 Track Champion, Ryan Godown, defending Mid Atlantic Sprint Series champion, Kevin Nagy and Street Stock competitor, Jeff Dirkes beat the competition to capture their first wins of the 2022 season on F&L Door Night at the track.

Mike Franz and Jim Gallagher led the field to the wave of Kenny Golden’s green flag with Franz leading the way the first time around the High Banks in the Danny’s Pizza Pizzazz Modified feature. Godown quickly moved in to challenge and had the R&M Motorsports No. 26 our in front on lap two. Ryan Watt raced into second on lap seven with Franz, Jim Gallagher and Clay Butler making up the top five.

Richie Pratt, Jr. raced into third with Danny Sommerling’s No. 51 on lap ten with Franz and Gallagher still battling in the top five.

Godown’s biggest challenge came from the lapped traffic that he encountered by lap ten as he set a blistering pace around the four tenths mile track.

The thirty lap feature event ran without a caution until five to go when Sammy Martz Jr. had his powerplant go up in smoke on the No. 24. The burning oil produced a significant flame so the red was thrown and the fire was quickly extinguished.

The restart brought Godown back to the field and erased his significant lead but the Ringoes Rocket was up to the challenge as he led Watt and Pratt back to the green. The restart found Franz holding on to fourth with Gallagher challenging. With three laps to go, Matt Stangle raced into fifth but Franz held on to a popular fourth place finish.

Godown took the checkered over Watt and Pratt. Both Godown and Watt were in cars rebuilt during the week after last Saturday’s backstretch crash. Pratt finished a strong third over Franz and Stangle. Billy Pauch, Jr. raced home in sixth after electrical issues took him out of a handicap spot in his heat race. Sam Martz finished seventh followed by Gallagher, Butler and Ryan Krachun.

“We were good last year,” the feature winner stated, “but we worked hard over the winter to be even better.”

Godown, Dominick Buffalino and Watt picked the wins in the F&L Doors sponsored heat races.

Kevin Nagy raced to the win in the Delaware Auto Exchange Mid Atlantic Sprint Series feature event that was shortened by one lap when the rain started to fall. Nagy dominated the MASS action at Bridgeport last season and returned to his winning ways Saturday night.

Nagy quickly raced into the lead while Josh Bricker, Aiden Borden and Tim Iulg battled for second. Borden took the spot but Iulg followed quickly to take over second.

Nagy pulled to a large lead but racing through lapped traffic enabled Iulg to cut into some of that distance. Borden was also able to close the gap on Iulg late in the race but Wind Gap, PA’s, Kevin Nagy drove to the win over Iulg in the Ale No. 19a, Borden, current point leader, Larry McVay and Buddy Schweibinz who charged into the top five in the final laps of the Pioneer Pole Building sponsored event.

Bricker, Mark Bitner, Rory Janney, Bryant Davis and Kristina Pratt completed the top ten at the finish.

Iulg, Borden and Schweibinz picked up the wins in the F&L Doors heat races.

The Triple R Truck Parks sponsored Street Stock feature was a thrill a minute as the winner was never determined untilt he field raced to the checkered flag.

Kyle Saylor looked like he was ready to redeem his three second place finished for a victory as he took the lead from Lee Allen on lap five after battling side by side. Last week’s winner, Mike Hughes took over third and then battled with Allen for second, taking the spot just before the five to go mark.

A couple of single file cautions kept the field tight in the final laps. With just two laps to go, Saylor got crossed up out of turn two with Allen regaining the lead while Hughes and Dirkes battled for second. With Hughes then challenging Allen for the lead, Dirkes drove past them both to take the lead and the win.

The finish was Dirkes for his first win of the season followed by Allen, Hughes, Nick Sandone and Saylor.

The Street Stock heat race was sponsored by On the High Side Apparell with the win going to Saylor who just nipped Allen at the line for the win.

Tom Errico, Sr. took the win in the Vintage exhibition.

Action returns to the Bridgeport Motorsports Park with the Invasion of the PA Posse on Wednesday night. 410 Winged Sprint cars and the Precision Hydraulic and Oil 602 Sportsman will appear in the first mid-week show of the season. Then Saturday night it’s back to the a four division show with the Danny’s Pizza Pizazz Modifieds, the Precision Hydraulic & Oil 602 Sportsman, the Bridgeport Motorsports Park Street Stocks and Four Cylinders.

PAUCH OPENS BRIDGEPORT POINTS WITH A VICTORY 


Bridgeport, NJ – Mother Nature wasn’t very cooperative but the Bridgeport Motorsports Park ran their first points race of the 2022 season with Billy Pauch taking the win in the Danny’s Pizza Pizzazz Modifieds.  Ryan Godown, Jr.  won his second Precision Hydraulics & Oil 602 Sportsman feature in as many weeks and starts out the 2022 season on top of the points.  Mike Hughes raced to an impressive win in the Premio Sausage Street Stocks while Joe Garey, Sr. picked up the win in the Liberty Kenworth four cylinder action.

It was Pauch vs Pauch in the first Modified race of the new season as Pauch Senior led the way to the checkered flag over Billy Pauch Jr. and Matt Stangle in the thirty lap feature event.  

The start of the race was marred by a multicar incident that occurred on the backstretch on lap one.
When Richie Pratt was forced to go to a back-up car for the feature, his pole position start had to be forfeited, moving Tommy Beamer to lead the way to the green alongside of Jim Britt.  The field headed down the backstretch behind Beamer and Britt when Beamer’s mount suddenly slowed.  Jordan Watson was right behind Beamer and had nowhere to go as he spun to try and avoid the disabled car.  Ryan Godown, Ryan Watt, Roger Manning and Brett Ballard followed as everyone tried to scramble to avoid the melee on the track.  It was strictly a racing accident.  “Something broke in the rear,” Beamer explained.  “It was like the car was in neutral.  I was a sitting duck.”  It was like the perfect storm – a full field of cars, headed down the backstretch on the first lap – the worst possible time and place.  

The cars of Watt, Godown, Beamer, Watson, Manning and Ballard were heavily damaged but there were no injuries.  Several other cars had minor damage and were able to drive away and continue. The track crew did a great job attending to the drivers and the cars, clearing the track for the resumption of the feature event.
Britt took command and led the first nine laps as Pauch Senior and Junior raced in second and third.  “I was just biding my time with Britt,” Pauch explained, “but when the No. 96 challenged I thought I’d better get going.”  Pauch took the lead on a lap ten restart after a caution for Matt Smith who had slowed on the track.  

Pauch Jr. moved by Britt to take second on lap twelve.  The Pauches led the way through halfway followed by Joseph Watson, Matt Stangle and Britt.  

Pauch Jr. and Stangle had battled for the win in the second heat race and now the battle was renewed in the feature event.  As the leader caught the back of the field, Pauch Jr. and Stangle were able to close in on the leader.  The cars to be lapped were tough customers.  “They didn’t do anything wrong,” Pauch explained.  “They were racing each other and I finally had to go between them.”  The top three ran with less than a car length separating each position until they cleared the traffic.


For the start of his 48th year in racing, Billy Pauch Sr. led the way to the checkered flag followed by Pauch, Jr., Stangle, Joseph Watson and Ryan Krachun who won the first point race last season.  Alex Yankowski raced to a sixth place finish followed by Britt, Dominick Buffalino, Richie Pratt, Jr. and Williams.  Both Buffalino and Pratt raced into the top ten from starts deep in the field.
The Rent Equip & Party Central Modified heat races were won by Pauch, Sr., Pauch, Jr. and Ryan Krachun.  Clay Butler won the consolation.


Ryan Godown, Jr. put himself on the top of the points with a win in the opener.  The twenty-five lap 602 Sportsman feature was riddled with caution flags, putting a strain on the race leader.  

Brian Papiez had Dave Adams No. 37 out in front in the early going until a flat tire on lap seven had him heading to the pits.  Eric Kormann was the new race leader on the restart but Godown wasted no time in taking the lead.  Travis Hill moved in to challenge Godown for the lead and actually led two laps after a big run to the outside on a restart.  Godown, Jr. knew what he had to do on the next restart and got up on the wheel to retake the lead.  Wayne Weaver made it a three way battle on several restarts.


Godown led the way to the win over Hill, Weaver, Howie Finch and Matt Ellery.  Jim Dallett, completed the top ten.


Greg Humlhanz, Weaver and Hill won the three Hoffman’s Speed Supply heat races.  Pete Serra was the winner of the consolation.  

Mike Hughes raced to a convincing win the fifteen lap Street Stock feature with Kyle Saylor again racing to a second place finish.  Defending champion, Tom Wills, Jr. made his first start of the season to finish third followed by Jeramy Doerr and Jeff Dirkes.  Two time winner, Lee Allen finished sixth.  Hughes thanked fellow competitor TJ Henry and his dad, Tim Henry for their help along with his sponsors, family and friends.


Saylor took the win in the Atmostemp heat race.  
Joe Garey, Sr. was victorious in the Four Cylinder twelve lap feature while Pitcher picked up the win in the Izzy Rigging and Trucking qualifier.  

Saturday action will see the Delaware Auto Exchange Mid Atlantic Sprint Series joining the Modifieds and Street Stocks this weekend while the 602 Sportsman share the limelight with the PA Posse in a double header on Tuesday, April 19th.
