IT ISN’T OVER TILL IT’S OVER, PAUCH BLASTS TO VICTORY LANE!

PAUCH BLASTS TO FIRST WIN OF SEASON ON HIGH BANKS

“It isn’t over til it’s over!”  That’s a phrase commonly used when referring to the outcome of sporting events and it has certainly has been true so far this season on the High Banks of the Bridgeport Motorsports Park!

SY Murray sponsored this great night of racing at the Bridgeport Motorsports Park.

Defending Champion, Billy Pauch, Jr. raced into the lead of the Danny’s Pizza Pizzazz Modified feature as he raced Sammy Martz, Jr. down the homestretch to the white flag.  Cale Ross’ feature win came with a pass by Kevin Hirthler with four laps to go.  Dillon Steuer’s win came by way of a lead change over Rick Laubach on a restart with less ten laps remaining.  The racing has been “on-the-edge-of-your-seat” exciting in the first four point races of the 2025 season.

Matt Ellery raced to the win in the Ice Less LLC 602 Sportsman for his first victory of the season.  PJ Bozowski’s efforts were a lap short a week ago but on Saturday night this rookie claimed his first win in the DA’s Auto Body & Repair Rookie feature event.

Mike Hughes dominated a good field of Insta Signs Plus Street Stocks while Joe Garey, Jr. raced to his fourth win of the season in the Premio Sausage Four Cylinder competition.

Stan Frankenfield took the lead on the start of the Modified feature.  By lap six, Frank Cozze was racing side-by-side with Frankenfield, staking his claim on the lead.  Frankenfield slowed with mechanical ills on lap ten, bringing out the caution.  Sammy Martz, Jr. moved up to second on the resulting restart.

Cozze led the field through the crossed flags.  Neal Williams drew a caution when the Sal DeBruno No. 0 smoked heavily two laps later.  The restart saw Cozze and Martz race to the green with Martz, Jr. and the No. 24 out in front to score lap eighteen.

Pauch, Jr. bested Ryan Krachun for second and had the ten remaining laps to race Martz for the lead.

Pauch applied the pressure but Martz, Jr. continued to lead the way.  Coming to the white flag, Pauch went to the outside and put his No. 1 between Martz and the homestretch wall to be scored as the leader.  Pauch led the way to the checkered over Martz, Jr., Ryan Krachun, Brandon and Justin Grasso.  Billy Osmun III finished sixth followed by Sam Martz, Mike Lisowski, Dillon Steuer and Kevin Hirthler.

“He (Martz, Jr.) was starting to hang there at the end,” the feature winner stated.  “Doug Rose does so much for our sport, I’m happy to get a win here.”

Rob Tete had the No. 30 out in front for the first seven laps of the Ice Less 602 Sportsman feature until eighteen year old Zane Roth took the lead on a lap eight restart.

Roth led lap fifteen but Matt Ellery had the Ellery Pub No. 29 out in front following a lap sixteen restart.   Ellery raced to his first win of the season over Roth who scored his best Bridgeport finish to date.  Ronnie Solomon started in fifteenth and raced the Straub Tree Experts No. 22 to a third place finish.  Jim Wyers and Jax Yohn completed the top five at the checkered after racing among the top five cars for most of the race.

Joe Toth rebounded from an on-track incident earlier in the race to finish sixth followed by Wayne Weaver, Matt Peck, Travis Hill and Jesse Hirthler.

PJ Bozowski claimed victory in the DA’s Auto Body & Repair Rookie feature, becoming the third different winner among the Rookie competitors.  It was a big win for Bozowski who has raced his way through quarter midgets and Slingshots to get this opportunity.  Mike Hughes kept the pressure on the leader throughout the race to finish second followed by two-time winner, Austyn Myers, Charley Cossaboone and Justine Wessner.

David Swanson raced to his first win in the Victory Fuel Wingless Sprints, putting an end to a number of races with nothing but bad luck.   Swanson took the lead from JR Fulper on lap and then beat Dan Leaper to the checkered flag with Thomas Radivoy, Stan Ploski III and Shea Wills completing the top five. Brendan Hires finished sixth followed by Joe Kata, Jonathan Swanson and JR Fulper.

Mike Hughes dominated a great field of Insta Signs Plus Street Stocks for his third win of the season.  Jimmy Combs raced to a second place finish over the Spider Ensingers, son and father.  Patrick Force rounded out the top five.  Bailey Tolson made his first Bridgeport start of the season and had to pit for a flat tire just a few laps from the finish while running second.

And he did it again!  Joe Garey, Jr. came away with another win in the Premio Sausage Four Cylinders – his forth of the season.  Lee Allen led the way through lap twelve and then raced side-by-side with Garey, Jr. on lap thirteen.  Garey was out in front the next time around and scored the win over Allen, his father, Joe Garey, Sr., Tim Jones and Colin Gale.

Racing action returns to the High Banks on Saturday with Modifieds, Sportsman, Rookies, Wingless Sprints, Street Stocks and Classic Vintage.
