Saturday Portion Of Wildcard Weekend Still On – Show Moved Up An Hour

Bridgeport, NJ – The final hand of the 811 Dig Safe Poker Series is set for Saturday afternoon at 4pm. “The track dried pretty good today and we’re excited to get this final race of the season in the books,” offered track manager Danny Serrano. “We’ve moved the times up by an hour to try and get the fans and drivers home a little earlier tomorrow, as we appreciate everyone’s support and their eagerness to race this weekend.”
Pit gates will open at 12:30 p.m. with grandstands opening at 1:30 p.m. The first heat race of the three-division show will start at 4pm. The Spirit Auto Center Big Blocks, Stewart Stainless 602 Crates, and the Pennco Tech Outlaw Stocks will compete in what is sure to be one last great night of racing. Mother Nature’s Wrath Wins Friday’s Program of Wild Card Weekend
Bridgeport, NJ – Well, no one could have seen this coming. Well, at least not the white version of precipitation this time. With an all day and evening Thursday snow and rainstorm hitting the entire Northeast, Bridgeport Speedway was left without any option other than to cancel the Friday November 16 racing program. For the fourth consecutive weekend, Bridgeport’s Friday night racing schedule has been wiped out due to rainy weather.
“As of now, Saturday’s Big Block, 602 Crate, and Outlaw Stock show is still on,” offered track manager Danny Serrano. “We will evaluate the track tomorrow and see just how much it can dry out. This has obviously been a season to forget weather wise. November has been no different than the entire summer and as far back as to opening night practice way back in March. We just don’t have the words to describe it anymore,” Serrano added.
Saturday’s show will be the final hand of the 2018 811 Dig Safe Poker Series at the speedway. Pit gates will open at 1:30 while grandstand gates will open at 2:30 and the first green flag waving at 5pm. Bridgeport, NJ – In what has been a rain-plagued 2018 season to say the least, Bridgeport Speedway has been forced to implement it’s scheduled rain date for this weekend’s ‘Gone But Not Forgotten’ Wildcard Weekend. Both Friday and Saturday’s programs on the 5/8 mile will now be run next Friday 16th & Saturday 17th. The divisions and times will remain the same for Friday and Saturday’s shows.
Sunday’s Bill Thomas Memorial is still scheduled for this Sunday, November 11 at 4pm on the Spirit Speedway 1/4 mile.
“This is pretty much a repeat of last weekend here at Bridgeport,” offered track manger Danny Serrano. “With all the rain we received last Friday, we weren’t able to dry out in time for Saturday’s URC show. Even though this Saturday’s forecast isn’t all that bad, we truly can’t see us drying out once again in time to race on Saturday. We want to be fair to those who are traveling from out of state, taking off work early, and who have booked hotel rooms. Looking at the 10-day forecast, next weekend looks a whole lot dryer and warmer, so we’re remaining positive that we can get this last race of the season in the books,” Serrano added.
“We were all ready to end the season on a high note but, I guess we’ll just have to wait one more week to crown the 811 Dig Safe Poker Series Champions. We’ve already hung the tarps this week under the pavilion, ordered the heaters, food, and grill for our annual Friday night party. We’ll just have to have it next Friday night for all the fans, race teams, and employees. It’s frustrating because we’ve been receiving a lot of calls from the drivers who are eager to race one last time in 2018” summed up Serrano.
Friday’s show will feature the 358 Small Blocks, Pennco Tech Outlaw Stocks and an open practice sessions for Big Blocks & 602 Crates (locking in 2 cars from each division from fast times), along with the ‘Underdog 20’ for 602 Crates. Saturday’s program will feature the Spirit Auto Center Big Block Modifeds, Stewart Stainless 602 Crates and Pennco Tech Outlaw Stocks on Saturday for Hand 4 of the Call 811 Before You Dig Poker Series. DISMAL FORECAST CANCELS FRIDAY PORTION OF BIG TRACK CLASSIC
Bridgeport, NJ – With nearly 100% rain and thunderstorms predicted for Friday (day & evening) in South Jersey, Bridgeport Speedway and the United Racing Club (URC) both felt it wise to cancel Friday’s event as soon as possible. “After talking with Rick Weller of URC and our team, cancelling made the most sense unfortunately,” offered track manager Danny Serrano. “They’ve been calling for rain on Friday since Sunday and it hasn’t gotten any better, only worse. By calling it tonight we’re hoping that drivers, crews, and fans can still go about their Friday plans without altering their schedule just to get rained out anyway,” added Serrano. “We rained out in April and now again Friday. We can’t wait to see these guys finally thrill the fans on Saturday!”
Day-2 of the ‘Big Track Classic’ sponsored by BRB Contractors will go on as scheduled on Saturday, November 3. Pit Gates open at 1:30 pm with grandstand gates opening at 3pm. The first heat race will go green at 5pm. Joining the URC 360 sprint cars will 602 Crates and the Garden State Vintage Stock Car Club. Friday’s ‘Underdog 20’ for the 602 Crates has been rescheduled and will now take place next Friday, November 9, as part of Wild Card Weekend. And divisions seeking some hot lap sessions that were scheduled to run Friday can still come on Saturday to get those hot lap sessions.

WATT MAINTAINS HIS CROWN IN BRIDGEPORT’S THIRD ANNUAL KING OF THE BIG BLOCKS
The scene was set for the third annual King of the Big Blocks sponsored by K&A Excavating and Spirit Auto Center.
Jimmy Horton, the winningest driver in the history of the Bridgeport Speedway drew the pole for the start of the fifty lap main event. Ryan Godown, driver the Lincoln Auto Body No. 5, a car that Horton has won with at Bridgeport on many occasions, started on the outside pole. The two young guns – Matt Stangle and Brandon Grosso followed with the first King of the Big Blocks, Billy Pauch starting in fifth.
Gary Balough led the starting line-up to the track behind the wheel of the Batmobile No. 112.
With the wave of the green flag, Horton jumped out in front while the battled was waged for the runner-up spot. Godown ran in second followed by Grosso, Wade Hendrickson and Pauch. By lap five, Pauch had moved into second, setting his sights on Horton. On lap eleven, Ryan Watt moved up to third. With twenty laps scored, just a few car lengths separated Horton, Pauch and Watt as Grosso and Godown rounded out the top five.
The red flag was thrown on lap twenty-three when Craig VonDohren got upside down in turn one before bouncing the Dick Biever No. 14s back on its wheels. VonDohren was not injured but his race for the King of the Big Block crown was over.
When the field was again underway, Pauch headed to the pits with a smoking No. 1. Pauch returned to the rear of the field following a trip to the pits but withdrew from the race a few short laps later.
When the green flag waved to restart lap twenty-three, Watt used the outside lane to race into the lead. “The bottom was so good in the beginning, you didn’t want to be on the outside on a restart,” Watt later explained. “I was just kind of riding around, watching Pauch and Horton when I started getting moisture on my helmet from Billy.” Watt added.
A lap twenty-four restart saw Neal Williams challenge Godown for second but Godown was able to regain the spot as Williams, Horton and Grosso rounded out the top five. 
With less than twenty laps to run, Godown was able to cut into Watt’s lead but then he lost his line through turns one and two and Watt again stretched his lead.
Watt raced to the checkered flag without a challenge to collect the $10,000 winner’s share of the purse and his second Ace in the
2018 811 Dig Safe Poker Series. Godown ran a strong race to finish second with Williams taking third. Grosso held off the late race challenges of Ryan Krachun to finish fourth with Krachun completing the top five at the finish line. Horton, Mike Gular, Jeff Strunk, Richie Pratt, Jr. and Travis Hill rounded out the top ten at the checkered flag.

Grosso held off the late race challenges of Ryan Krachun to finish fourth with Krachun completing the top five at the finish line. Horton, Mike Gular, Jeff Strunk, Richie Pratt, Jr. and Travis Hill rounded out the top ten at the checkered flag.Steve Kemery picked up his first win since his Rookie year in 2015 in the Stewart Stainless 602 Crate Sportsman feature event. Kemery, the 2016 Crate/Sportsman Poker Series Champion, took the lead from Danny Buccafusca on a lap nine restart. Joe Toth raced into second when Kemery took the lead and chased the race leader all the way to the checkered flag. Kemery took the win and an Ace for his Poker Series hand followed by Toth, Wayne Weaver, Buccafusca and John Micek. Ryan Heim, Ryan Simmons, Frank Dorry, Brad Roberts and 2018 Track Champion, Eric Kormann completed the top ten at the finish.
Invader Jon Meyer picked up the win in the Penn Co Tech Outlaw Stock feature event, taking the lead from pole sitter, Jeramy Doerr on a lap ten restart to capture the win. Doerr finished second with Tom Wills, Jr. taking third. Rich Stinson, Jr. finished fourth with Rick Brouchard taking fifth.

THE BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY PRESENTS THE THIRD ANNUAL KING OF THE BIG BLOCKS
One of the biggest weekends of racing is quickly approaching as the Bridgeport Speedway prepares for the third running of the King of the Big Blocks, sponsored by K&A Excavating.
This two day event has become a highlight of the Big Block Modified season. The Bridgeport Speedway management team introduced this event in September of 2016. Since most of the big races at this time of the year are geared toward the Small Block Modifieds, the Bridgeport Speedway wanted to offer an event that would showcase the Big Block Modifieds that are still raced on the lightning fast 5/8th mile track every Saturday night throughout the racing season.
Billy Pauch was Bridgeport’s first King of the Big Blocks as he raced ahead of Jamie Mills to capture the win in the inaugaral event. “I hope that I can do this a few more times before I give it up,” Pauch exclaimed following his big win and he has kept to his word as he has raced to three Bridgeport victories this season in his K&A Excavating No. 1, adding more wins to his third place ranking on the All Time Feature Winners list.
Last year, Ryan Watt had this event circled on his calendar. Watt was forced to play “catch up” during the 2016 event after suffering damage early in the race. Watt made several pit stops and rallied to a top ten finish at the end of fifty laps.
2017 was a different story. After a wheel to wheel battle with Craig VonDohren, Watt raced into the lead on lap thirty-six and never looked back, leading the way to the checkered flag at the end of fifty laps. Watt was on a roll as he added the big check from the King of the Big Blocks to his growing collection.
This year, Friday night’s events will feature the Small Block Modified and Pennco Tech Outlaw Stocks. They will take center stage with qualifying and main events. The Big Blocks and 602 Crate Sportsman will also be able to practice during the night’s action in preparation for Saturday’s big event. Timed hot lap sessions will produce the first two starters in each division for their Saturday night feature events.
With the results that he produced earlier this season, Jeff Strunk has to be considered the man to beat in Friday night’s 358 Small Block Modified event. Strunk accumulated two wins and a second place run on the Design for Visions/Sunglass Central 3/8th mile track during pre-season events. Ryan Godown led Strunk to the checkered in this summer’s Three for All event back in July. And, Strunk is the defending winner the Friday night action last year. Frank Cozze was the Small Block Modified race winner in 2016.
Racing will get underway at 7:30 on Friday with pit gates opening at 4pm and grandstands at 6pm. General admission is $25, Students (10-15) for $10 and children 9 and under are free. There is also a General Admission Fan Pass available for the weekend for $45.
Saturday will feature a double header show with the Spirit Auto Center Big Block Modifieds and Stewart Stainless 602 Crate Sportsman. K&A Excavating is sponsoring both days of racing for the King of the Big Block weekend.
The King of the Big Blocks will be decided at the end of the fifty lap event, paying $10,000 to the winner. The 602 Crate Sportsman will compete in a twenty lap feature event.
This weekend’s events are also a part of the 2018 811 Dig Safe Poker Series with cards up for grabs in all three divisions – Big Blocks, 602 Crate Sportsman and Outlaw Stocks.

Pit gates will open at 2pm on Saturday. The gates will swing open in the grandstands at 4pm with racing getting underway at 6:30pm. General admission for Saturday is $30, Students (10-15) for $10 and children 9 and under are free.
There is a great deal of excitement heading into the King of the Big Block weekend. Both fans and competitors alike are looking forward to the two day event after the many rain outs experienced this season.

Bridgeport, NJ – The trend unfortunately continues in South Jersey, as Bridgeport Speedway has been forced to cancel yet another racing program in 2018. With four straight days of rain and a more predicted for Tuesday, Bridgeport management was left with no other decision other than to cancel the already postponed Hand 3 of the 2018 Poker Series.
“This is just crazy,” offered general manager Danny Serrano. “We rescheduled a rainout only to get rained out again. Hopefully this will be the end of the rain so we can get back to business at Bridgeport,” Serrano added. Bridgeport’s next on track activity after the Monster Truck Throwdown this weekend will be the King of the Big Blocks Weekend brought to you by K&A Excavating. Friday’s show will feature the 358 (spec) Small Blocks, Outlaw Stocks, and Big Block practice on the 5/8. Saturday’s show will feature the Big Blocks contesting for $10,000 in a 50-lap showdown featuring the best of the best from NJ, PA, NY, and DE. Joining the Big Blocks will be the 602 Crate Sportsman.

WATT, GASKILL AND WILLS, JR. CAPTURE WINS ON CHAMPIONSHIP NIGHT AT BRIDGEPORT
Ryan Watt, Roger Gaskill and Tom Wills, Jr. put the finishing touches on the 2018 season with feature wins on Championship Night sponsored by Joy Auto Parts at the Bridgeport Speedway on Saturday night.
For the third consecutive season, Watt and his Ron Roberts Racing Team have captured the Spirit Auto Center Big Block Modified Championship on Bridgeport’s 5/8th mile speedway, putting the icing on the cake with their fifth win of the season in Saturday night’s twenty-five lap feature event. Eric Kormann earned his third title in the Stewart Stainless 602 Crate Sportsman. dedicating his efforts to the memory of his late father-in-law, Dave Stanton. Jeramy Doerr put together a season of consistency to capture his first Penn Co Tech Outlaw Stock Championship with four feature wins during the championship chase.
Watt was the big winner but Hammonton, NJ’s Bucky Kell was certainly the man of the hour. Not many drivers can lay claim to passing Ryan Watt and his No. 14w at Bridgeport this season but Kell is one of them. Kell put his No. 58 out in front at the wave of the green and then drove away from the field to lead through the race’s half way mark.
Mike Franz drew the race’s first caution on lap twelve, erasing Kell’s lead and closing in the ranks for the restart. Kell lined up in front of Richie Pratt, Jr., Ron Roberts, Tommy Beamer and Neal Williams with Watt and Billy Pauch running just outside the top five. At that point, Pauch had turned the race’s fastest lap.
During the caution, Roberts headed to the pits with a flat tire, relinquishing his third place run. A seven car pile-up came following the restart as Williams got out of shape and several cars were collected in the melee. Tom Maccherone, Wade Hendrickson in the Hendrickson Farms No. Z1 and Jim Britt were towed to the pits while Williams, Sam Martz, Stan Frankenfield and Roberts were able to continue.
Watt raced by Pratt on the next green flag lap and then had second by the end of lap thirteen. One lap later, Watt had the lead but Kell was not out of it yet. When Pauch slowed, drawing a caution for lap fifteen, Kell lined up to the outside of Watt and regained the lead on the restart. Kell was the race leader on lap fifteen before Watt edged ahead as the two drivers crossed the line one lap later.
Watt raced to the checkered followed by Kell, Beamer, Pratt and Williams. Martz, Frankenfield, Franz, Roberts and Dave Shirk rounded out the top ten.
Roger Gaskill ran the race of his career as he picked up his first career win in the 602 Crate Sportsman feature. Gaskill had plenty of pressure from Sammy Martz, Jr. The two drivers crossed the line side by side on lap sixteen but Gaskill regained the lead on the next circuit when lapped traffic came into play.
At the end of twenty laps, Gaskill took the win over Bobby Bracall, Kormann, Wayne Weaver and Matt Peck. Tommy Errico, Jr., last week’s feature winner, Tom Moore, Jr., David Crossman, Frank Dorry and Dave Damiano completed the top ten.
Tom Wills, Jr. drove to his third win of the season in Penn Co Tech Outlaw Stock competition in what was a four car race for the lead through most of the fifteen laps as Doerr, Brian Ludwig and Mike Creamer raced side by side and nose to tail behind the leader for many laps.
Wills took the win over Doerr, Creamer, Darren Cox and Gary Klimeczak. Cox had a great run after starting at the rear of the field and driving up to a fourth place finish.
