Bridgeport, NJ – Day two of the John Blewett Inc Wildcard Weekend at the Bridgeport Motorsports Park produced many unforgettable moments for both the competitors and the fans.  It was a day full of excitement, great racing and big victories with nearly three hundred  laps raced throughout the day honoring the memory of Danny Serrano.  Danny was on everyone’s mind as Doug Rose and his crew produced a day of racing that will have fans talking about their Bridgeport experience for a long time.

Alex Yankowski raced to the biggest win and the biggest payday of his young career when he took the checkered flag in the Danny Serrano 100.  There are many ways to celebrate victory on the track but Yankowski came up with one (accidentally) that will not soon be forgotten;

After crossing the finish line for the win, the field continued to circle the track so that all cars could complete their last lap and take the checkered flag.  Yankowski was behind a group of lapped cars who were still racing for position.  One of those cars spun in front of the race winner, forcing Yankowski to take evasive action but he caught the outside wall in the process, flipping at the start/finish line.  The race winner emerged uninjured but the No. 84Y had to be towed to the scale and Victory Lane.  It was certainly an experience not soon to be forgotten as the grandstands cheered for Yankowski’s first Bridgeport victory!

Yankowski, a regular Saturday night competitor at the new Bridgeport Motorsports Park, took to the 4/10 mile track immediately, competing for the win on his first night of competition.  He’s been close so many times but finally sealed the deal in the $10,000 to win Danny Serrano 100.

“If I ever have grandchildren,” Yankowski related, “this will be something to tell them about.”  “The car just kept getting better and better,” Yankowski stated and no truer words have ever been spoken.  Yankowski lined up in the twelfth row of the line-up, going to the green flag in the twenty-third position.  Yankowski never reached the top ten until after the halfway mark.  While the leaders raced through heavy lapped traffic, Yankowski broke into the top five with about thirty laps to go.  

Ryan Krachun took the lead on the start but it was Jimmy Horton who led the field to complete lap one after Krachun made hard contact with the wall in turns three and four.  Jojo Watson raced Horton to become the race leader on lap nine.  

Watson led the way through lap forty with Danny Bouc taking over on lap forty-one.  Ryan Godown raced from twenty-fifth to challenge Bouc for the lead as they raced down the backstretch on lap fifty-nine.  

With Godown out in front, Yankowski began to pick his way through the top five after a three wide battle with Mahaney and Billy Pauch.   Bouc challenged Godown for the lead on a lap seventy-four restart but it was Yankowski who raced into second and then challenged for the lead.  A move to the inside on lap seventy-eight saw Yankowski take the lead in turn three.

Yankowski pulled away from the field leaving Godown, Watt and Bouc battling for second while Jeff Strunk battled with Billy Pauch and then Danny Bouc for a top five spot.  

Watt moved into second and began to close in on the leader but his progress was detoured when a lapprd car crossed the track in front of him.  Yankowski drove to the $10,000 win over Watt, Godown, Bouc and Strunk.  Frank Cozze, who had been battling in the final laps with Bouc and  Strunk, finished sixth followed by Mahaney, Matt Stangle, Rick Laubach and Pauch.  

Yankowski’s win came with small block power under the hood of the No. 84Y.  

There was racing all through the field throughout the one hundred laps.  Fans didn’t know where to look as the wheel to wheel action went from green to checkered.  After one hundred laps, twenty-seven cars were still running – the attrition rate was incredibly low.  It was a race for the ages.

The track crew took a few minutes to prepare for the next feature and delivered a multi-groove surface for the Capitol Renegade URC Sprint cars, sponsored by Absolute Dog Training of Medford, NJ.  

Polesitter Alex Bright took the lead at the start of the second race for the High Banks Classic.  Bright led the way with Pauly Colagiovanni running in second.  

Bright led through lap eight and then came to a stop in turn two on the next circuit.  Bright’s night ended with mechanical failure as Colagiovanni took the lead as the field lined up for the restart.  

Empire State Sprint competitor, Colagiovanni used every inch of the wide Bridgeport surface, choosing the highest line possible as he ran through the turns.  Colagiovanni, who is accustomed to racing on the flat bullrings of New York, took full advantage of the wide racing surface as he led the way in the twenty-five lap event.  

Ryan Smith raced the Eastern Rigging No. 10x into second around the midpoint of the race and set his sights on the leader.  Smith closed in on Colagiovanni and the drivers of the two number ten cars raced hard in the final laps.  Smith was able to challenge for the lead but Colagiovanni held the advantage.  The two cars came out of turn four and headed for the checkered flag with Smith mounting the final challenge.

Colagiovanni improved his past Bridgeport performance by one to take the win over Smith and Briggs Danner, racing the Gallagher No. 5G in only his second race in a winged sprint car.  Chuck Hebing finished fourth followed by Derek Locke.    Jason Shultz finished sixth followed by Tyler Ross, Josh Weller, Adam Carberry and Troy Betts.

Ryan Smith posted the best two night performance to take possession of the Midge Miller Memorial Trophy after finishing  fifth and second.  Adam Carberry finished one spot behind Josh Weller but his thirteen point advantage at the start of the night carried him to his first ever URC Championship.

With $3,000 on the line for the winner, there was plenty of bumping and banging with side by side action in the thirty lap Precision Hydraulic & Oil Invitational race for the South Jersey Overhead Door 602 Sportsman feature event.  

Polesitter, Steve Davis and Steve Kemery raced for the lead at the start.  Davis won the battle and led for the first fourteen laps.  Kemery put the No. 69K out in front at half way and led all the way to the first caution after twenty-eight green flag laps.  

That put Kemery and Davis back together for the final two lap shootout.

The two cars raced as one around the track with Kemery holding the advantage on lap twenty-nine.  Coming out of turn four for the checkered, the two leaders were door to door in the drag race for the checkered.  Payton Talbot, the young invader from New York, was in a great position to steal the win as he raced on the bottom of the track while Kemery and Davis banged their way to the finish line.  Davis held the advantage for the win with Kemery taking second and Talbot a close third.  Dan Fleming finished fourth with Ryan Simmons in fifth. 

Mike Mahaney and Richie Pratt, Jr. were the fast timers in the timed Modified hot laps with both drivers earning a starting spot in Sunday’s fifty lap season finale for the Foley Cat Modifieds. 

Scott Riggleman won the make-up event for the 4/8 Cylinder Enduro cars over Chris Allen and Justin Dunn.

Justin Dunn returned to pick up the win in the second race over his father, Scott Dunn and Scott Riggleman.

Bridgeport, NJ – Night one of Bridgeport Motorsports Park Wild Card Weekend sponsored by John Blewett, Inc. is in the books with two more days to follow.  The racing action was intense as the fans gathered on a beautiful Fall evening to watch the three and four abreast racing on the 4/10th mile track.

Absolute Control Dog Training sponsored the two days of the High Banks Classic for the winged sprint cars of URC.  Mark Smith got things rolling as he picked up the win – his 21st of the season and his first ever at the Bridgeport Speedway.

Smith raced for the lead with Ryan Taylor at the start but it was Taylor who grabbed the lead in turn three and led the field to the stripe to complete the first lap.  Smith continued to pressure Taylor and even edged ahead on lap three but the wave of the yellow flag negated Smith’s efforts. 

Taylor was able to pull ahead when the green flag waved as he led Smith, Troy Betts, Adam Carberry and Josh Weller through lap five.  Carberry and Weller were not only racing for position but for the 2020 URC title.  Coming into Friday night’s events, Carberry led Weller by a single point.

The red was displayed on lap eight when Austin Bishop took a ride in turn two.  The driver was not injured but the car was heavily damaged.

After a false start, Taylor was able to take the lead on the second restart but the caution waved again before the lap could be completed – this time for the spinning car of Danny Pebbles.  

Smith became the race leader on lap nine as Betts moved into second, dropping Taylor to third.  Carberry and Weller completed the top five through lap ten.

By halfway, the leaders had caught the back of the field and were racing through lapped traffic.  Lucas Wolfe, a past winner of this event, raced just outside the top five, looking for his opportunity.  

Taylor renewed his efforts to regain second from Betts but Betts was able to hold off Taylor’s efforts.  After contact with the wall, Taylor would head pitside and not complete the race.

Smith drove to the checkered for the win.  Carberry took second in the closing laps with Betts crossing the line in third.  Weller finished fourth with Ryan Smith and the Eastern Rigging No. 10x finishing fifth.  Lucas Wolfe, JJ Grasso, Tyler Ross, Alex Bright and Robbie Stillwaggon trailed the leaders to complete the top ten.

Carberry’s point lead increased to thirteen after the first night of racing.

The Sunbelt Rental Street Stocks put on a great show of close competition in their twenty lap feature event.  

Former track champion Jeramy Doerr raced two time champion Tom Wills Jr. for the lead at the start.  Doerr grabbed the lead as he and Wills raced through turn two.  The cars ran four wide behind the leaders.

Lee Allen raced into second and then closed in on Doerr to challenge for the lead.  Allen was the new leader on lap eight as 2020 Champion, Rich Stinson battled Doerr and Mike Huges, Jr. for second.  

Stinson moved into second and chased Allen for the second half of the race.  Stinson was able to get a nose alongside Allen’s No. 98B but each time, Allen was able to hold off the challenge.

Stinson and Allen raced side by side out of turn four as they headed for the checkered flag.  It was Allen for the win at the finish line by a wheel.  Stinson finished second followed by Mike Hughes, Jr., Shannon Mongeau and TJ Henry.  Brian Spencer, Ron Frees, Nick Sandone, John Parker and Mike Creamer followed to complete the top ten at the finish.

Six track champions competed in this twenty lap race – Stinson, Henry, Frees, Wills Sr., Wills, Jr. and Doerr.

John Micek was the early leader in the South Jersey Overhead Door 602 Sportsman Underdog 20.  This race was open to any 602 Sportsman competitor that had not won a feature event this season.

Tom Sherby took the lead following a lap five caution and never looked back as he raced to the win.  Joseph Brown finished second with Anthony Tramontana advancing to third late in the race.  Micek finished fourth with Payton Talbot taking fifth in his first ever race at the Bridgeport Motorsports Park.  Travis Hill, Wayne Weaver, Jon Meyer, Ryan Grim and Doug Snyder rounded out the top ten at the checkered.

Saturday, we have spoke with all of the qualified drivers of the Danny Serrano 100. The consensus was let’s have an action packed day of Sprint Cars and Modifieds! The Danny Serrano 100 Memorial will take place Saturday along with a full program of URC Sprint Car action and the Precision Hydraulic and Oil 602 Sportsman 30 lap event + 4 & 8 cylinders combined. The action will begin at 3:00 pm!

Then on Sunday, we bumped up the Modified program to 50 laps paying a whopping $7000 to win (w/gamblers). Sunday will consist of a full program of modified qualifying and the 50 lap feature along with the 602 sportsman, Street Stocks, and twin SpeedSTR features. We will also take the green at 3:00 pm Sunday.

This is going to be a HUGE final weekend at the “Kingdom of Speed” Bridgeport Motorsports Park!

Bridgeport, NJ – The news you all have been waiting for!!!

Bridgeport, NJ – We are excited to announce the inaugural debut of the South Jersey Holiday Light Show coming this holiday season!⠀

Bridgeport, NJ – After the “light showers, clearing after noon” turned into substantial amounts of rain overnight Friday and into the day Saturday, Doug Rose and crew persevered and presented day two of the Danny Serrano Memorial weekend.  The start time had to be delayed due to the very wet conditions but between the hard work of the track crew and the cooperation of the race teams, the scheduled program was completed minus the Modified Cash Dash that was moved onto Sunday’s schedule.

The Foley Cat Modifieds ran three groups of timed hot laps to determine the starting line-up of the three, twenty lap qualifying races for Sunday’s Danny Serrano 100.  As expected, the twenty lap events provided great racing as the starting field for Sunday’s 100 lap main event were determined.

Jeff Strunk and Jimmy Blewett led the way to the first twenty lapper with Blewett jumping out in front on the start.  Blewett led the way for the first two laps before a flat tire caused the red, white and blue to make a wicked turn on the cushion.  Blewett pulled to the infield while Strunk led the way over Jared Umbenhauer, Davey Sammons, Ryan Godown and Mike Mahaney through lap five.  

Mahaney was the man on the move as he raced into third by half way and then battled lap after lap with Umbenhauer for second.  

Strunk had the All Fab No. 126 out in front and was able to pull away from the competition in spite of several restarts.  Godown, who set fast time for the first group on Friday, was pushed to the pits after half way with mechanical failure.  

Strunk led the way to the checkered with Mahaney grabbing second as he raced Umbenhauer to the finish line.  Sammons, Tommy Scheetz, Jr., Craig VonDohren and Brandon Grosso trailed Strunk to the finish transferred to the Serrano 100 on Sunday.

Jojo Watson led the way in the second twenty lapper with Dominick Buffalino, Danny Bouc, Peter Britten and 2020 Track Champion, Bill Pauch racing behind the leader. 

At half way, Watt was engaged in a back and forth battle for third with Bouc, with Watson and Buffalino out in front.  Bouc challenged Buffalino for second on lap twelve but it was Watt who was on the move, taking over second on the next circuit.  Watt quickly reeled in Watson and mounted a charge for the lead.  Watson held on for lap sixteen but Watt put the inside to good use as he drove into the lead one lap later.

Watt, who usually prefers the high outside line, rolled the inside of the track for the win over Bouc, who grabbed second on a late race restart, Watson, Buffalino, Britten, Cozze and Pauch who transferred into Sunday’s main event.

The final twenty lapper was just as exciting as Justin Grim took the lead over Duane Howard on the start.  Both drivers were making their first attempts on the new Bridgeport 4/10th mile speedway.  

Multiple caution flags realigned the field during the first laps as Horton moved into second with Grim prevailing as the leader.  Horton battled with Grim for the lead, putting the Halmar No. 43 out in front on lap seven.  At half way, Horton led Grim, Howard, Dillon Steuer and Rick Laubach.  

Ryan Krachun was forced to pit for a tire change on lap two and raced his way into contention in the second half of the race.  With five laps to go, Krachun was back to second but was not able to challenge for the lead.

Horton drove to the twenty lap victory over Krachun, Howard, Steuer, Laubach and Grim.  JR Heffner grabbed the last transfer spot from Briggs Danner in the final laps.  

Horton, the winningest driver in Bridgeport history, grabbed a victory on the new 4/10 mile surface.

The East Coast USAC Wingless Sprints made their first ever appearance on the 4/10th mile track and provided the type of action that this group is been known for.

Carmen Perigo, Jr. fell victim to a classic Alex Bright outside run as Bright grabbed the lead on the start and quickly drove away from the field.  Briggs Danner, making his first ever start in sprint car competition in the Gallagher No. 5G, grabbed the runner-up spot on lap two.  

Two time series champion, Steve Drevicki raced into third and then took second from Danner on lap six.  Ryan Watt, who has a win in the wingless series from earlier this season, put the Tim Hogue No. 39 on top of the cushion and blasted his way into second on lap eight only to see his run come to an end with a flat tire.  Drevicki also headed to the pits at this time with neither driver able to return.  It was Drevicki’s first DNF in his third season of competition.

Bright continued to lead the way over Danner, stretching his lead until lap sixteen when the leader caught the back of the pack.  With five to go, Bright looked to be on his way to his second wingless victory over Danner as Kyle Spence, Chris Allen, Jr. and Joey Amantea battled it out for third.  

Danner continued to close the gap on Bright as the raced through lapped traffic.  With three to go, Danner caught the leader.  Coming to the white flag, Danner executed the perfect slide job to move into the lead as the field headed to the white flag.  Danner drove to a popular victory followed by Bright, Allen who won the battle for third over Spence and Amantea.  Troy Betts finished sixth in his first wingless start followed by Kyle Lick, Bill Unglert, Perigo and Bruce Buckwalter, Jr.

It was a popular victory for the nineteen year old hot shoe from Allentown, PA who also set fast time in his USAC All Pro SpeedSTR and just missed a transfer spot in his twenty lap Modified run.  

Steve Kemery became a five time winner as he dominated the twenty-five lap South Jersey Overhead Door 602 Sportsman feature event.  

Kemery led the way through several caution flags with Dave Jenkins racing in second.  Second and third saw all of the racing action after Wayne Weaver got out of shape in turn three and four but was able to collect the No. 0 and continue, after losing several positions.  Brian Krummel, Friday night‘s Underdog 20 winner, Dan Fleming and Sammy Martz battled to the finish.

Kemery took the win over Jenkins who was disqualified after failing post race tech.  Krummel finished second followed by Fleming, Martz and Weaver.  Travis Hill finished sixth with Steve Davis, Anthony Tramontana, Jeremy Martino and Adam White rounding out the top ten. 

On to Day 3 of the Danny Serrano Memorial weekend with more Foley Cat Modifieds and USAC All Pro SpeedSTR action.

Bridgeport, NJ – Danny Serrano would be proud – 130 cars signed in for the first of three nights of racing on the 4/10th mile track at the Bridgeport Motorsports Park with three drivers paying a visit to the new Danny Serrano Victory Lane.

Brian Krummel made his return to racing in a big way as he drove Howie Finch’s No. 4 to victory in the Underdog 20 in his first ever appearance on the new 4/10th mile track.  

“Howie called and offered me the ride in the Sportsman,” Krummel explained.  “He knew how bad I wanted to race.”  

Krummel’s team mate, Steve Davis was the race leader with Krummel in second with fifteen laps scored.  

Brad Roberts went for a wild ride on the homestretch to bring out the red flag with five laps remaining in the twenty lap feature for non-winners.  Roberts walked away from the incident but his Z14 was heavily damaged.

The field lined up single file for the restart with Davis leading the way to the green.  Krummel drove to the inside of Davis and the pair raced side by side with Krummel emerging as the leader on lap sixteen.   Krummel had been having carburetor issues up to that point but he timed the restart perfectly and the carburetor responded, sending Krummel to the front.  Once in the lead, Krummel was able to pull away from the field.

Krummel raced to the checkered flag over Davis, Wayne Weaver, Anthony Tramontana and Tom Sherby.  Travis Hill finished sixth making his first start of the season in the Cogdill No. 98.  Jon Meyer followed with Daniel Morgi, Greg Reed and Darren Cox rounding out the top ten.

After a heated battled throughout the twenty lap feature event, Rich Stinson raced to his fifth win of the season in the Sunbelt Rental Street Stocks over TJ Henry.  Stinson’s win was worth $1,000 – $500 was posted by the track, Precision Hydraulics and Oil added another $300 with several other contributors making up the difference on race day.

Henry and Stinson started from the front row and battled for the lead from the drop of the green.  Stinson, who was recently crowned as the 2020 Sunbelt Rentals Street Stock Champion ran the high line while Henry raced mid-track. Stinson held the lead throughout the race but Henry never allowed him to get too far ahead. 

Brian Spencer finished third after challenging Henry for second at one point in the race.  Lee Allen finished fourth followed by Tom Wills, Sr.  Tom Wills, Jr., Gary Klimeczak, Brian Ludwig, Mick Search and Nick Sandone III rounded out the top ten.

Dave Brown raced to the win in the Mid Atlantic Sprint Series (MASS) twenty-five lap feature event, the final race of the year for the 305 sprint cars of MASS.

Jeff Geiges was the only competitor that still had a mathematical chance to take the season title away from point leader, Tim Tanner.  Geiges was able to lead a few laps but Brown charged back into the lead and never looked back.  

Kevin Nagy won the battle with Geiges for second while 2020 Champion, Tim Tanner finished fourth.  CJ Faison finished fifth.  Andy Best, Tom Carberry, Sr., Eddie Wagner, Tyler Reinhardt and Rick Stief completed the top five in the running order.

Ryan Godown, Peter Britten and Ryan Krachun set fast time in their respective timed hot lap sessions, guaranteeing each driver a redraw spot in Saturday’s twenty lap qualifiers.  

The East Coast USAC Wingless Sprint Cars were on hand for practice sessions.  Briggs Danner, making his first start in the Gallagher No. 5G, was the fastest car in all three sessions.  The wingless sprints will run qualifying events and a feature as part of Saturday’s racing program.

Bridgeport, NJ – Ryan Godown, Steve Kemery & TJ Henry added to their 2020 season win totals on Saturday night but it was Billy Pauch, Kemery and Rich Stinson who collected the 2020 track titles in their respective divisions – the very first champions of the new Bridgeport Motorsports Park.  

Billy Osmun and Stan Frankenfield, Jr. led the field to the start with Osmun jumping out in front at the wave of the green.  The third generation racer led the first twelve laps of the thirty lap feature with Ryan Godown getting closer and closer to the No. 81.  On lap thirteen, Godown took the lead as the pair raced out of turn two and down the backstretch.  

Alex Yankowski moved into second and it wasn’t long before he challenged Godown for the lead.  By halfway, Matt Stangle raced in third followed by Billy Pauch and Richie Pratt, Jr. who were contending for the Foley Cat Modified title.  Pauch challenged Stangle for third and took over the position on lap nineteen.

Yankowski and Stangle put on quite a show as they battled for second, allowing Godown to gain some breathing room at the head of the field.  Lap after lap, the two young guns tried different lines and tactics to better their positions.  

Godown raced to his third win of the season followed by Yankowski, Stangle, Pauch and Briggs Danner who raced by Pratt late in the race.  Neal Williams’ late race charge earned him a sixth place finish followed by Pratt, Osmun and Frank Yankowski who was making his first Bridgeport appearance.

Godown was encouraged by his car’s performance with the special shows coming up on the calendar.  

Pauch earned the 2020 title – his second in row at Bridgeport – making him the final point champion on the 5/8th mile track as well as the first on the new 4/10th mile speedway.  Doug Rose was on hand to congratulate the new champion but Pauch turned the tables on Rose, asking the crowd to aknowledge Rose for building the new track at Bridgeport.

Steve Kemery made a daring move on a restart to gain several positions.   He then challenged Matt Peck for the lead and moved out in front on lap nine.   Kemery led Peck, Ryan Godown, Jr., Kris Lilick and Tom Sherby at the halfway mark.  

Tom Moore, Jr. trailed Kemery by just four points at the start of Saturday night’s action.  Moore worked hard during the twenty lap race to gain as many positions as possible.  He was three wide with Lilick and Sherby to move into the top five just after halfway.  

Godown moved up to second but his efforts fell a lap short when the left rear wheel and tube came out of the No. 26, bringing out the caution with just one lap remaining.  

Kemery raced to his fourth win of the season in the South Jersey Overhead Door 602 Sportsman competition with Peck, Moore, Lilick and Wayne Weaver trailing the leader at the finish.

Kemery earned his first track title since winning the Rookie honors five years earlier.

TJ Henry raced to his fifth win of the season in the Sunbelt Rentals Street Stocks.  John Parker led the first five laps of the feature before mechanical issues saw the leader slow on the backstretch.  Henry became the race leader and led the way to the finish over Tom Wills, Jr., Mike Hughes, Jr., Lee Allen and Vern McLaughlin.  Jeff Dirkes finished sixth followed by Tom Wills, Sr., Paul Donahue, Ken Moren and Drew Brocklebank.

Rich Stinson was uanble to finish Saturday night’s feature event but had clinched the Street Stock title as soon as he took the green flag.  Stinson returned to racing during the 2018 season and has been a contender in the division ever since.  

The All Star Slingshots made their final matinee appearance of the 2020 season with Amanda Angstadt racing to her fifth win of the season over Michael Beckett, Ryan Davey, Gary Bozowksi and Joseph Hansen.  Last season, Davey picked  up seven wins but two DNFs kept him from the track title.  This year, Angstadt collected the most wins but Davey’s consistent performance and one victory was enough to earn him the 2020 championship.  

Pat Hires was the winner of the 8 Cylinder Enduro race.  

The Monster Truck Throwdown comes to the Bridgeport Motorsports Park next weekend on both Saturday, September 19th and Sunday, September 20th.  Come out and see the Avenger, Jester, Kraken, Buckshot, Brutus, Hurricane Force and others!  Tickets are available through bridgeportspeedway.thunderfix.com.  

Then one weekend later, the Danny Serrano 100 Memorial Race comes to the kingdom of speed with three days of racing beginning on Friday, September 25th.  In addition to Modified, 602 Sportsman and Street Stocks, there will be 305 and wingless sprint cars and USAC All Pro SpeedSTRs during the three day event.  Something for everyone!!  Don’t let the 2020 season come to an end without seeing a race at this fabulous facility.
