Bridgeport July 31 Poker Race to Honor the late Tom Cimpko with Bonus $$$

Bridgeport, NJ – Earlier this season, noted mechanic Tom Cimpko passed away at the age of 85.  The Hillsborough Township, NJ resident was well-known in the world of dirt modified racing by many.  Cimpko’s Family wanted to get together at a track that Tom’s presence played a large part at.  “My Dad just loved racing, the people involved in the sport, and Bridgeport Speedway was a big part of our lives,” offered Dawn Cimpko-one of Tom’s daughters.

The Cimpko Family has put up THREE hefty bonuses for the 40-lap Poker Series event on July 31!  The winner of the $4,000 event will receive a $1,000 bonus – 5th place will receive a $500 bonus and 8th place will receive an $800 bonus on top of their regular earnings.  Current Spirit Auto Center Big Block point leader Billy Pauch has also revealed that he and the Liedl Family have gotten together to debut a throw back “L”paint scheme for this special event!

Known by his contemporaries as a man of integrity and vast knowledge, there was no mechanical issue that Tommy would not find a work-around for!  A “super fan” of dirt racing, Tommy was a fixture at the iconic Flemington Speedway. He raced many cars over the years, but is prominently remembered as the lead mechanic for

many notable drivers throughout his tenure in the racing world. Drivers such as as Sammy Beavers, Mike Grbac and Billy Pauch are among those who can say Tommy was a major part of their team. He truly inspired every member of the crew to do their best, and his hard work helped those drivers earn much success.  Tom also crewed for other notable drivers like Frank Cozze, Fritz Epright, Roger Laureno, Fred Dmuchowski, Billy Osmun, and the McCaughey Family.

His most proud moment had to be when Billy Pauch won 10 in a row at Flemington and the track put a bounty up on ‘The Kid’ for $500, which was a lot back in the 80’s.  A few owners that Cimpko worked under include the Liedl Brothers, Ted Arnold, Tony Sesely, Joe Scamardella, and Ricky Grosso.

Racing will begin at 7:15pm on Wednesday, July 31.  The Big Block Modifieds will battle in a 40-lapper, the 602 Crate Sportsman will compete in a 20-lap $1,000 to win event, and the Outlaw Stocks will race in a 15-lap $500 to win affair.

We were fortunate enough to get a few quotes from some of the people that Tom influenced over the years:

Billy Pauch:  Tom and I had a lot of success together.  He was like a father figure to me and I looked up to him tremendously.

Wade Hendrickson:  When Tom helped on my injection he would tap the butterflies closed with an ice pick…my dad called him Tom Icepick

Roger Laureno: You had to get up early in the morning to try to out work Tommy.  A great guy and a true racer.  I really enjoyed the time I got to spend with him building and racing the MBC 58 and the Tony Sesely 16.

John McCaughey:  Tom was a great man and a helluva racer.

Rick Shive:  Tom was all business at the track, kinda reminded me of Gus Frear.

Mark Marotta: Brilliant man

Fred Voorhees:  He was a pioneer in the racing world

Randy Morton:  Tommy was a great friend of my dad who always said Tom was the best wrench period.

Ted Arnold:  One of the nicest and intelligent persons I have ever met. I wish I took in more of his knowledge.

Scott Pool:  Great mind when it came to building race cars

Dominick Ragano:  Tom was a great guy knew him well over 50 years very smart, always one step ahead of everyone, knew him back when he worked for Gavazzi Tire

HOT SUMMER NIGHT RACING AS PAUCH, PECK & WILLS RACE TO BRIDGEPORT WINS

The only thing hotter than the weather is the racing action at the Bridgeport Speedway as the Spirit Auto Center Big Blocks, South Jersey Overhead Door 602 Crate Sportsman and Sunbelt Rental Outlaw Stocks returned to Saturday night action on thelightning fast 5/8th mile speedway on First Responders Night.

Billy Pauch raced to his fifth win of the 2019 season in the twenty-five lap Spirit Auto Center Big Block Modifieds in a race that saw five different leaders and too many lead changes to count!  On lap nine, it was Pauch who drew the caution with a left rear flat.  He made a trip to the pits and returned to start at the rear of the field, breaking into the top five with just ten laps to go.

Bob Sarkisian and Ron Roberts lead the starting line-up to the green flag with Sarkisian taking the lead.  Sarkisian led the first six laps before Richie Pratt, Jr. raced by on lap seven in the Danny’s Pizza Pizzazz No. 51.  Pratt led a pair of laps before Brett Ballard took to the outside on the backstretch to race into the lead for laps nine and ten.  On a lap eleven restart, it was Pratt who took to the outside to take the lead.

There was plenty of action happening behind the leader as Ballard. Ryan Watt and Neal Williams battled for position.

Pratt took the five to go sign from starter, Ken Golden, Jr. with Watt, Williams and Pauch trailing.

Then things got really interesting as Pauch raced into third on lap twenty-one.  Watt challenged Pratt for the lead and led the way to complete lap twenty-two.  It was a three car battle for the lead the next time around with Pauch taking over on lap twenty-three.  Pauch was able to pull away from the field, leaving Pratt and Watt to race for second.  Pauch took the checkered followed by Watt, Pratt, Williams and Ballard.  Jim Britt finished sixth with Roger Manning, Matt Stangle, Travis Hill in the Michael No. 51M and Sam Martz completing the top ten at the end of twenty-five laps.

Former Rookie Champion, Matt Peck raced to his second win of the season but first on the 5/8th mile track in the South Jersey Overhead Door 602 Crate Sportsman competition.

Peck led all twenty laps and spent most of them deflecting the challenges of a very persistent Wayne Weaver who ran in second.  Jim Gallagher, Jr. battled back to finish third after a back and forth battle with Sammy Martz, Jr. who was sidelined with mechanical issues on the final lap of the race.  Current point leader, Eric Kormann raced to a fourth place finish with Travis Hill rounding out the top five.  Ernie Miles III finished a season best sixth followed by David Hartman, Andrew Belmont, Bobby Bracall and Brett Belmont.

Justin Moench came away with the win in the final DA’s Auto Body & Repair Rookie feature event to capture the 2019 Rookie Championship.  Scott Maher finished second in the eight lap feature event but it was Kathy Buzby who finished second in the Rookie points.

Rookie graduation took place behind the grandstands before the start of the Saturday night competition.

Tom Wills, Jr. picked up his fourth win of the season in the Sunbelt RentalOutlaw Stocks, taking the lead with an outside pass by Brian Ludwig on a lap seven restart.

Andrew Joslin led the first four laps before Ludwig took over on lap five in a race that saw numerous caution flags during the fifteen lap event.

Wills led the way to the checkered flag with Ludwig finishing second.  Lee Allen rebounded from several incidents to finish third  followed by Joslin and John Parker to round out the top five.

Bridgeport action returns next Saturday for Bike Night on the 5/8th with the Big Block Modifieds, 602 Crate Sportsman, Outlaw Stocks and Vintage cars with racing getting underway at 7pm.

BRIDGPORT’S PACK THE HOUSE IS HUGE SUCCESS

The Bridgeport Speedway’s fourth annual Pack the House Night was a huge success as fans filed through the gates from four o’clock until well after the start of the night’s racing action.  Fans enjoyed the free musicial entertainment, camera and autograph day, the many food concessions and the Bandit Bus before the start of the night’s events.

Fans were treated to a night of racing action among six different divisions.  The South Jersey Overhead Door 602 Crate Sportsman, Sunbelt Rentals Outlaw Stocks and the Delaware Auto Exchange Mid Atlantic Sprint Series (MASS) raced on the lightning fast 5/8th mile track while the Ace Overhead Door 600 Micro Sprints, the JS Weld-Rite/Mongoose Chassis 270 Micro Sprints and Slingshots raced on the Spirit Speedway quarter mile track.  There was also a hot lap session for the Spirit Auto Center Big Block Modifieds held on the 5/8th mile track.

The South Jersey Overhead Door 602 Crate Sportsman opened the night of racing with their twenty lap feature event.  Polesitter, Eric Kormann led the first eleven laps around the 5/8th mile track before Steve Kemery drove into contention from his tenth place start.  Kemery caught up to the leader and then made his pass for the lead with a move to inside off turn three on lap twelve.  Kemery then drove away from the competition to claim his third victory of the 2019 season.

Kormann finished a strong second followed by Jim Gallagher, Jr.in third.  Matt Peck added a fourth to his collections of top fives this season with last week’s feature winner, Tom Sherby rounding out the top five.  Travis Hill finished sixth followed by Tommy Errico, David Crossman, Howard Huepfel and Bobby Bracall completed the top ten in the running order at the checkered flag.

Tom Wills, Jr. turned his 2019 season around with his third win of the season in the Sunbelt Rentals Outlaw Stocks.

Polesitter, Nick Sandone led the first lap as the field raced three wide behind the leader for the runner-up position.  Andrew Joslin won that battle and then took the lead as he raced Sandone off of turn two on the second lap.  Wills, Jr. drove through the pack, taking the lead as he raced Joslin to the start finish line on lap three.

Wills, Jr. pulled away from the competition as Lee Allen took over second followed by Mike Creamer, Gary Klimeczak and Brian Ludwig through lap five.

Creamer raced by Allen on a lap eleven restart to take over second while Klimeczak and Ludwig continued the battle for fourth right down to the checkered flag.

Wills, Jr. took the win over Creamer and Allen with Ludwig edging out Klimeczak at the finish line.

Ricky DiEva, a former Big Block Modified competitor at the Bridgeport Speedway, moved into full time competition with the MASS 305 sprint cars this season and picked up his first victory in front of a packed house on Saturday night.  DiEva led from the wave of the green flag to the finish to capture the victory over Andy Best who has already won a MASS event earlier this season.

This was the third race for the MASS Sprint Cars at Bridgeport this season but the first on the 5/8th mile track.

DiEva led Best to the finish with Rick Stief finishing third.  Eddie Wagner, who has played an integral role in DiEva’s sprint car experience, finished fourth with Jason Dunn taking fifth.  Larry McVay finished sixth followed by Tom Carberry, Joe Kay, Tyler Brehm and Scott Frack.

Bridgeport invader, Jacob Hendershot debuted a new car and immediately put the No. 27 into Victory Lane in its maiden voyage in the JS Weld-Rite/Mongoose Chassis 270 Micro Sprint feature.

Pole sitter, Johnny Trendler led the first two times around the Spirit Speedway quarter mile.  Hendershot, who started third in the twenty lap feature raced into the lead on lap three and never looked back.  Three time feature winner, Alex Swift finished second followed by Brandon Shipley who recovered from an earlier incident, restarted at the rear of the field and drove back to a third place finish.  Kyle Weiss finished fourth with Glenn Macomber taking fifth.  Tom Landwher, Shea Wills, Ross Holler, John West and Ken Andreas completed the top ten at the end of twenty laps.

2017 Track Champion, Matt Smith, drove to his third win of the season in the Ace Overhead Door 600 Micro Sprint Feature.

Polesitter, Jon Keller led the first five circuits around the quarter mile before Smith made his way to the front from his eighth place start.  Gary Bozowski quickly raced into second on the first lap and held off any challengers to cross the finish line behind Smith for second.  Luke Thomas finished third with PJ Williams in fourth and Jon Keller finishing fifth.

Brandon Pavel, Lee Nardelli, Richie Keller, Travis Hill and Mike Thompson who won the consolation event, completed the top ten in the running order.

Ryan Davey took the lead on the first lap of the Slingshot feature to earn his second win of the season at the Spirit Speedway.  Dave McCullough trailed the leader to the finish with Ryan Harris finishing third.  Dave Morrell finished fourth with Tomas Mowery rounding out the top five.

It was a beautiful June night for racing.  It was a full night of racing action – the first for many in attendance.  The Pack the House night continues at the Bridgeport Speedway.

There will be three nights of racing this weekend as the Spirit Auto Center quarter mile runs a regular show on Friday night with 270 & 600 Micro Sprints and Slingshots.  The 270s will be featured in Twin 15 lap feature events. Racing gets underway at 8pm.  The action moves to Bridgeport’s 5/8th mile track on Saturday night for Quarter Midget Night with the Big Block Modifieds, 602 Crate Sportsman, Outlaw Stocks and Rookies with racing getting underway at 7pm.

Then on Sunday, it’s Poker Series time on the Spirit quarter mile for the 270 & 600 Micro Sprints, Slingshots and Xcel 600 Modifieds.  Racing starts on Sunday at 6:30pm.

BUFFALINO PUTS HORTON NO.76 IN BRIDGEPORT VICTORY LANE

Earlier this season, Dominick Buffalino climbed behind the wheel of the Horton No. 76.  Week after week, the driver and car showed promise.  For the last two races, car and driver were sidelined by mechanical issues.

But all that changed on Saturday night when Buffalino drove Mr. Horton’s No. 76 to Victory Lane in the twenty-five lap Spirit Auto Center Big Block Modified feature event on the Design for Vision/Sunglass Central 3/8th mile track at the Bridgeport Speedway.  Buffalino led every lap from his pole position start but multiple cautions kept the field close and the challengers even closer.  And Billy Pauch, who finished second to Buffalino, was the one who pointed out that when you win a feature there isn’t a little note that indicates that you won from the pole.  A win is a win!

By lap ten, Ryan Watt had his No. 14w in second with Pauch running in third.  Two laps later, Pauch took over second and began his challenge for the win but Buffalino was not to be denied as he raced out in front in spite of multiple restarts during the last half of the race.

Buffalino’s last Bridgeport win came in March of 2016 when he won the 60 Over – Doug Hoffman Memorial Race but it was this race on Saturday night that Buffalino declared to be the biggest win of his career.  “To win in this car that doesn’t even have a garage,” Buffalino exclaimed.  “I can’t thank old man Horton enough!”

Buffalino took the win followed by Pauch, Watt, Matt Stangle and Richie Pratt, Jr.  Brett Ballard, Jim Britt, Scottie Ambruster, Roger Manning and David Hunt completed the top ten at the checkered flag.

Tom Sherby was the winner of the South Jersey Overhead Door 602 Crate Sportsman feature event for his first win of the 2019 season.  Sherby was chased to the start/finish line by Wayne Weaver who trailed within striking distance all the way to the checkered flag.  Matt Peck held off a determined Eric Kormann to finish third while Kormann won the battle with Travis Hill to finish fourth.  Andrew Belmont finished sixth followed by Bobby Bracall, Rich Wegner, Jr., Jim Gallagher, Jr. and Kyle Belmont to complete the top ten.

Rich Stinson, Jr. picked up his third win of the season and second victory on the Design for Vision/Sunglass Central 3/8th mile track as the current point leader in the Sunbelt Rental Outlaw Stocks.  Lee Allen finished second followed by Brian Ludwig, Jeff Dirkes and Gary Klimeczak.

Scott Maher, Jr. returned to Victory Lane in the DA’s Auto Body & Repair Rookie feature event, racing ahead of Justin Moench for the win.  Kathy Buzby finished third.

The fourth annual Pack the House Night comes to the Bridgeport Speedway next Saturday night with FREE admission to the grandstand.  Fans will be treated to nine divisions of racing with the 602 Crate Sportsman, Outlaw Stocks, Rookies and Mid Atlantic Sprint Series (MASS) racing on the 5/8th mile track while the 270 and 600 Micro Sprints, Slingshots and 8Cylinder Enduros will compete on the Spirit Speedway quarter mile.  Racing gets underway at 6pm, preceded by a Camera and Autograph event from 4-5pm.

BRIDGEPORT TO RACE ON 3/8 ONE MORE TIME THIS SATURDAY, JUNE 15

Bridgeport, NJ – (June 11, 2019) – The upcoming ‘Eastern Storm’ for the USAC wingless 410 sprint cars was slated to be the final showing this Wednesday for the Design for Vision/Sunglass Central 3/8 in 2019.  However, due to scheduling and more importantly weather, Bridgeport Speedway has decided to race one more time on the 3/8 layout this coming weekend.

“We needed to be proactive this week with a midweek show and looking at the forecast,” explained owner Brian Ramey.  “Rain is supposed to move in after midnight on Wednesday with heavy rain all day Thursday, which will make it all but impossible to get to and move the 14 light stands and get the heavy equipment onto the track to remove the added clay in turns 1 and 4.  We’re not going to give the drivers an inadequate 5/8 to run on and the weather is bound to hinder our efforts.  We wanted to get this information out as quickly as possible to the drivers so they can prepare properly heading into the weekend.  I think the 3/8 has proven itself this past month and has had some tremendous racing in all divisions.  With that being said, we are still looking forward to getting back on the 5/8 just as much….it’ll just be a week later that’s all.”

Billy “The Kid” Pauch charged to his fourth win of the season in Spirit Auto Center Big Block Modified action at the Bridgeport Speedway and his third win of the year on the Design for Vision/Sunglass Central 3/8th mile track.  Rich Wegner Jr. picked up the win in the South Jersey Overhead Door 602 Crate Sportsman – his first ever victory in a stock car.  Rich Stinson Jr’s last lap challenge gave him the victory in the Sunbelt Rentals Outlaw Stock main event while Lee Allen repeated in the 8 Cylinder Enduro competition.  Justin Moench claimed his third win in the DA’a Auto Body & Repair Rookie feature.

Saturday night marked the final scheduled Saturday night event on the Design for Vision/Sunglass Central track as Saturday night action switches back to the 5/8 mile next week.  Pauch won three of the five Big Block Modified races with Jimmy Horton and Ryan Watt with one win a piece.  The 602 Crate Sportsman had six main events on the 3/8th mile with Eric Kormann taking two wins while Wayne Weaver, Matt Peck, Jim Gallagher and Rich Wegner each won a single feature event.

Tom Wills and Rich Stinson each earned a single victory in Outlaw Stock competition while Lee Allen collected two win and Scott Riggleman won once in 8 Cylinder Enduro competition.

Pauch started fifteenth in the twenty-five lap Big Block Modified contest that saw Dominick Buffalino take the lead in the early laps over Kyle Borror.  Both drivers raced cars that represent a lot of Bridgeport family history with Buffalino wheeling the Horton No. 76 and Borror behind the wheel of the Pratt No. 28.

Pauch quickly drove into the top five and then began to pick off positions one by one.  He battled side by side with Borror following a lap seven restart and then moved in to challenge Buffalino.  When the field raced to the start finish line on lap nine, Pauch was the race leader.

Neal Williams used a slide job to take over second from Buffalino on lap eleven.  Buffalino tried to retake the spot but it was Watt who took over not only third but second just before the halfway mark.  The next restart saw Williams race back into second as Pauch led Williams, Matt Stangle, Watt and Richie Pratt, Jr. with ten laps to go.

Pauch was able to drive away from the competition while driving to his fourth win of the season.  Watt raced his way to a runner-up finish followed by Williams, Stangle and Pratt.  Jim Britt, Ryan Anderson, Tommy Beamer, Brett Ballard and Bill Lasko finished in sixth through tenth at the end of twenty-five laps.

Polesitter, Bobby Bracall took the lead at the wave of the green flag for the 602 Crate Sportsman twenty lap feature event.  Bracall led the first two times around the 3/8th before Wegner took the lead after a lap three caution.  Wayne Weaver raced into third and the top three remained unchanged to the checkered flag.

The fourth and fifth positions attracted a lot of attention.  Eric Kormann raced Andrew Belmont to take over fourth just before the half way mark.  Matt Peck arrived on the scene to challenge Belmont for fifth with Peck winning the spot.

Wegner took the win over Bracall, Weaver, Kormann and Peck with Belmont, Jim Gallagher, Jr., Kris Lilick, Vince Troia and Joe Toth rounding out the top ten.

Earlier in the evening, Justin Moench drove the Wegner No. 304 to his third win in the eight lap Rookie feature over Jim VanWickle and Kathy Buzby.

Mike Creamer took the lead at the start of the fifteen lap Outlaw Stock main event while Chris Allen, Jr., Gary Klimeczak and Brian Ludwig raced three wide for second.  Allen was behind the wheel of his uncle’s No. 97.

After making an early race trip to the pits, Rich Stinson, Jr. raced his way back through the field, one position at time.  With five laps to go, Stinson sat behind Allen in second.  Stinson took over the runner-up spot with one lap to go and then drag raced Creamer to the finish line to take the win.

Stinson took the win over Creamer, Allen, Ludwig and Klimeczak with Jeff Dirkes racing the high line looking for a way into the top five.

For the second week in a row, Lee Allen took the win in the twenty-five lap feature event for the 8 Cylinder Enduro cars.  Allen, Scott Riggleman and John Bronne raced nose to tail for many laps.  Racing for the checkered, Riggleman gave it all he had as he challenged Allen for the win but Allen was able to hold off the challenge to take the victory over Riggleman and J. Bronne.

The Design for Vision/Sunglass Central 3/8th mile will host the Eastern Storm on Wednesday with racing starting at 7:30 pm.  See the stars of USAC Wingless Amsoil Sprints battle it out wheel to wheel for the win.  The Winged 600 Micro Sprints will join the USAC cars in a doubleheader.  Next Saturday is Bike Night on the 5/8th mile track with the Big Block Modifieds, 602 Crate Sportsman, Outlaw Stocks and Rookies.  Race time is 7pm.

THE EASTERN STORM IS HEADED TO BRIDGEPORT

You won’t need a weather map for this storm!

The Eastern Storm is headed to the Design for Vision/Sunglass Central 3/8th mile track at the Bridgeport Speedway on Wednesday, June 12th.

Last year’s event was a huge success.  The drivers found the track “racey”.  The fans came in droves for the only appearance of the stars of USAC  in the state of New Jersey and they did not go home disappointed.   In the words of USAC’s Levi Jones, “There was a good crowd who got to see the greatest names in USAC.  You can’t ask for it to be much better than that!”

At the end of the night, Kevin Thomas Jr. was the first to the checkered flag after laps of wheel to wheel racing with Chris Windom and Tyler Courtney.  Windom and Courtney had swapped the lead back and forth.  When the two made contact, Thomas saw his chance and raced into the lead.  It was just the opportunity that he was looking for.

So far this season, Chris Windom is the only driver to have repeated in the win column but it is CJ Leary who sits on top of the point standings , currently 29 points ahead of Kevin Thomas, Jr. and 38 points ahead of Windom.  Justin Grant, Leary, Brady Bacon, Tyler Courtney and Chase Stockon have one win a piece coming into the Eastern Storm races.

In addition to the regulars on the USAC tour, race fans will be able to see several local drivers competing in these events.

Joey Biasi recently picked up the win in the USAC East Coast Wingless Sprint Car event on the Design for Vision/Sunglass Central 3/8th mile.  Biasi has made it no secret that he really likes this track and his record shows it.  In two events, Biasi has a win and a second place finish.

Biasi is not stranger to Eastern Storm competition.  He has competed in these event for several years because, as the driver explains, “You don’t have to have a million dollar engine to compete.  Wingless competition is more about the driver driving the car.”  Biasi’s sponsors are on board for the Eastern Storm, including B&F General Machine, Burns & Yost Engines, GME Steering, Calaman Radiator, Frank’s Truck Lettering,k HG Block Lightning and Dyno, Larry’s Hot Rod & Harleys, Blinders restaurant, Shaup Brothers and Tito Juice.  These sponsors are very important to Biasi for monetary as well as product support.

USAC East Coast Wingless Sprint Car Champion, Steve Drevicki will also be in this year’s line-up.

Drevicki is receiving support from Gene Frankowiak who is supplying the engine.  Drevicki will also be receiving some technical support from Clauson & Marshall in what will be his first endeavor in Eastern Storm competition.  Drevicki will be using the same car that he uses in wingless competition.  He and his team have already done all of the prep work to allow them to change engines with relative ease.  Drevicki will attempt to get some practice laps with the 410 motor this week.  He will change motors to compete at Big Diamond on Friday night and will then have several days to prep for the Eastern Storm opener at Grandview on Tuesday.

A former two time ARDC midget competitor, Drevicki believes that the car with the 410 power plant will react more like the midget than the 360 sprint car so he isn’t expecting the change to be a big adjustment.

With the exception of the last event scheduled at Weedsport, the local talent has considerable experience in the tracks that will run during the Eastern Storm.

Grandstand admission for this event is $30, $10 for students 10-15 years old with children 9 and under admitted for Free.  Racing will get underway at 7:30pm.

Come early and take advantage of all that the Bridgeport Speedway has to offer.  Enjoy the free musical entertainment or ride the Bandit Bus to get a look behind the scenes as you ride through the pit area.   Enjoy the many delectable delights that the refreshment stands have to offer.  And don’t forget to pick up the latest copy of the Bridgeport Bullet – the official program of the Bridgeport Speedway.  There’s all sorts of new Bridgeport Speedway souvenirs from decals to hats and shirts to help you remember your visit to the Bridgeport Speedway during the 2019 Eastern Storm.

We are Bridgeport – the only track in New Jersey to offer Big Block Modifieds;  we are committed to maintaining a safe, fun, family atmosphere, creating life-lasting memories of excitement.

PAUCH & WATT SPLIT THE WINS AT DESIGN FOR VISIONS/SUNGLASS CENTRAL 3/8th MILE AT BRIDGEPORT

It was a full night of racing at the Design for Visions/Sunglass Central 3/8th mile track at the Bridgeport Speedway as the Spirit Auto Center Big Block Modifieds ran two feature events in addition to a full show of 602 Crate Sportsman, Delaware Auto Exchange Mid Atlantic Sprint Series (MASS) 305 Sprint Cars, DA’s Auto Body & Repair Rookies, Garden State Vintage and 8 Cylinder Enduros.

The Big Blocks did double duty on Saturday night to make up their feature event that was rained out on Saturday, May 11th.  Todd Neiheiser led the field to the green flag and took command for the first lap but Billy Pauch was on the move, racing to the inside of Neiheiser on lap two to take the lead.  Neiheiser raced in second until a lap seven restart when Jim Britt took over the spot.  Neal Williams moved up to third one lap later as Richie Pratt, Jr., Ryan Watt and Neiheiser race three wide for fourth.

As Pauch left a blazing trail as he pulled away from the field, Pratt caught Williams at half way and the two raced side by side until Pratt took over third.  After the three wide battle earlier, Watt lost several positions but was back knocking on the door as he raced Ryan Anderson to take over fifth on lap eighteen.

Pratt tracked down Britt in the final laps and completed a last lap pass to take over second.  Pauch raced to his third win of the season followed by Pratt, Britt, Watt and Williams.  Anderson, Matt Stangle, Roger Manning, Johnny Guarino and Todd Neiheiser completed the top ten run down at the finish.

Kyle Borror led the line-up to the green flag in the second twenty-five lap feature event, leading the way through the first six laps.  When the Pratt No. 28 overheated during a lap seven caution, Borror gave up the lead to head to the pits, putting Ryan Anderson out in front of Billy Lasko, Watt, Stangle and Pauch for the lap seven restart.

Watt tried outside and inside but Anderson was able to block his every move until Watt went to the inside of turn three on lap eight.  Watt edged ahead of Anderson as they crossed the line to complete lap eight as Pauch moved up to third.  Pauch quickly moved up to second and began to close the gap on Watt.

With Pauch on the bottom and Watt running the higher line, the laps began to count down.  Lapped traffic would become a factor in the final laps as Pauch closed in on Watt.  The leaders split a lapped car on the final lap with Watt winning the drag race to the checkered flag for his first win on the Design for Vision/Sunglass Central 3/8th mile track.  Pauch finished second followed by Williams,  Stangle and Scottie Ambruster.  Tom Beamer, Britt, Neiheiser, Bob Sarkisian and Manning ran sixth through tenth in the second feature event.

After six top three finishes so far this season, Jim Gallagher, Jr. raced to his first win of the season in the South Jersey Overhead Door 602 Crate Sportsman Feature event.  Gallagher led every lap of the twenty lap contest after his wife drew the pole for his starting position.  Eric Kormann was Gallagher’s closest rival to finish second followed by Brad Roberts, Wayne Weaver and Matt Peck.  Bobby Bracall finished in sixth after battling throughout the race with Rich Wegner, Jr. who finished seventh.  Joe Nappi, David Hartman and Scott Hulmes completed the top ten at the checkered.

Scott Maher, Jr. picked up his second win over Justin Moench in the DA’s Auto Body & Repair Rookie feature event.

Andy Best drove the Faison No. 2 to victory in the Delaware Auto Exchange MASS feature event.  Rick Stief led the first lap before Kevin Darling took over on lap two.  Darling was the race leader through lap eight when the race was red flagged when Tim Tanner took a wild ride at the end of the homestretch.  Tanner escaped serious injury but the No. 18 was heavily damaged.  Darling headed to the pits prior to the restart.

Best, who was challenging for the lead before the race was stopped, led the field back to the green and raced to his first win of the season over Rick Stief, Jason Dunn, Dominic Melair and Ricky DiEva.  Larry McVay, Logan Diehl, Eddie Wagner, Tom Carberry and Joe Kay trailed the leaders to the finish line at the end of twenty laps.

Lee Allen picked up his first 8 Cylinder Enduro win on the Design for Vision/Sunglass Central 3/8th mile, taking the lead for lap ten.  Derek Jones trailed Allen to the finish followed by Jason Duvall.

The Garden State Vintage put on a ten lap exhibition with drivers Rob Rindgen, Dave Deerson, Paul Ielmini, Whitey Miller, Connie Joyner and Richard Caramella and Stan Hawk.
