DANNER, KEMERY & STINSON GET IT DONE IN BRIDGEPORT ACTION

Bridgeport, NJ – Bridgeport Motorsports Park presented a triple header program of South Jersey Overhead Door 602 Sportsman, Sunbelt Rental Street Stocks and Rapid Tire USAC East Coast Sprint cars on Saturday night with racing sponsored by Church’s Auto Parts. The racing provided the thrills and excitement that racing fans have come to expect at the Kingdom of Speed.

Briggs Danner picked up where he left off last season with another win in the Bill Gallagher owned No. 5G wingless sprint car as he once again raced Alex Bright for the win.  Steve Kemery made several key moves to gain the lead in the 602 Sportsman Feature event to earn his first Bridgeport win of the season.  Rich Stinson became Bridgeport’s first repeat winner of the 2021 season with his victory in the Street Stock main event.  

Danner ended last season with a win in his first ever race with the USAC East Coast Sprint Cars.  In that event, he chased down race leader, Alex Bright, in the final laps and executed a perfect slide job to grab the lead at the white flag.  Saturday night’s race had many similarities.

Danner led from the green flag and drove away from the field as Bright sliced his way into the top five from his ninth place start.  By lap eight, Bright was running in second.  The race went fifteen laps before the caution waved for the first time, erasing Danner’s lead.

Danner was able to hold off Bright’s challenges on the lap sixteen restart as well as the two subsequent late race restarts.  Bright was able to slide by Danner going into the corner on at least two occasions but each time, Danner was able to drive off the corner an regain the lead.  “I gave it everything I had,” Bright said after the race.  “Once I showed him my nose he just went faster,” Bright added.  “I really didn’t want to see those cautions,” Danner stated.  “I knew he (Bright) was coming.  It was a good, clean race,” Danner added on a track that was very racy with multiple grooves. 

Trailing Danner and Bright to the checkered was Joey Amantea in third for his first podium finish in a wingless sprint car.  Amantea held third, despite challenges by three time USAC East Coast Champion, Steve Drevicki.  Tommy Kunsman made his first start in the wingless sprint car and finished fifth.  

Kenny Miller III rebounded from a tangle in turn four to race back to a sixth place finish over Bruce Buckwalter, Jr., Mike Thompson, Ed Aiken and Blaine Emery.

Andy Walko led the 602 Sportsman for the first two laps of their feature event before Howie Finch made the pass to the lead on a lap three restart.  Kemery went from sixth to second by lap four and then took advantage of the race between Finch and Steve Davis to make his bid for the lead.  

Finch led through lap five but Kemery led the way one lap later and finished the race without a challenge.  Travis Hill chased Kemery to the finish line for second followed by Davis and Tom Sherby who raced through the top five using the bottom of the track.  Wayne Weaver won the battle for fifth.

Kyle Belmont, made the trip home on a NASCAR off weekend  and finished sixth followed by Finch, Chad Sandt, Ryan Higgs and Joseph Brown.

After a battle with race leader, Tom Wills, Jr., Rich Stinson prevailed to win his second race of the young season in the Street Stock Division.  Wills finished second followed by Mike Hughes, Jr., Nick Sandone III and Terry Chany.

Plenty of racing action coming to the Kingdom of Speed this week with the 410 Sprints and Foley Cat Modifieds appearing in a double header on Tuesday night.  The Spirit Auto Center quarter mile opens on Friday night with 270, 600 micro sprints and Slingshots.  The action returns to the 4/10th mile track with the first race of the 2012 point season for the Modifieds, 602 Sportsman and Street Stocks.

​MARESCA, MARTZ AND SMITH ARE BRIDGEPORT OPENING DAY WINNERS

Bridgeport, NJ – Mike Maresca picked up where he left off at the end of the 2020 season.  His season ended with a win in the final show at the Bridgeport Motorsports Park during Wild Card Weekend.  The Potsdam, NY driver returned for the Kingdom of Speed Weekend sponsored by Millville Glass and Door and again walked away with a win – this time in the sixty lap Doug Hoffman Memorial.  

Sammy Martz, Jr. got his 2021 season off to a good start when he raced 2020 South Jersey Overhead Door 602 Sportsman Champion, Steve Kemery for the win in the twenty lap feature event.  

Ryan Smith put the Specialty Rigging No. 10x in Victory Lane as the United Racing Club (URC) opened their 2021 season at the Bridgeport Motorsports Park.  URC celebrates their 74th season of competition this year.  

The start of the new season meant the return to three and four wide racing and slide jobs in all divisions as the fans were treated to some great racing during this first weekend of 2021.

When asked what made him so good on the high banked 4/10 mile track, Maresca responded, “That’s I good question!”  He may not know what makes him so good but the fact remains that he is very good.   His weekend was nearly perfect.  Ryan Krachun and Maresca were the two fast timers that transferred into Saturday’s main event after setting fast time in timed hot laps on Friday night.  

As the winner of the six lap Dash, Duane Howard started on the pole of the Doug Hoffman Memorial with Mike Mahaney starting to his outside.  Howard grabbed the lead on the start as Joseph Watson took over second.  Howard led until a lap six restart when Watson took the lead.   Howard regained the lead from Watson on lap twenty but the Big Creek Concrete No. 15G was showing some smoke.  One lap later, in a plume of heavy smoke, Howard pulled off the track.  Maresca, who had just taken over second, became the new leader.

Watson, Mahaney, Frank Cozze and Ryan Godown trailed Maresca.   Cozze took over third on a lap twenty-three restart and got by Watson for second on the next circuit.

The top five remained unchanged through halfway but Mahaney was starting to make moves through the top five.  Following a lap thirty-two restart, Mahaney, Watson and Billy Pauch, Jr. took it three wide while racing for position.  Mahaney took over third on lap thirty-four.  With twenty to go, Cozze was on Mahaney’s radar.  Five laps later, Mahaney raced in second.

A lap forty-five restart shuffled several spots around as Mahaney continue to chase down Maresca but now Godown, Pauch, Jr. and Cozze ran third through fifth.  

As the laps counted down, Mahaney closed in on the leader and looked to make his move.  “I took a look at Mahaney’s tires on that one restart,” Maresca explained, “and they looked pretty beat up.”  Mahaney was confident though, that he had enough tire left to challenge for the lead.  

On the final lap, Mahaney made a big crossover move going into turn three to take the lead but Maresca came right back.  The two drivers raced for the win out of turn four with Maresca winning the drag race to the checkered.  Maresca admitted that he was kind of taken by surprise by Mahaney on that last lap but “not really.  Mike is one of the best right now,” the race winner said of the challenger.

Godown finished third followed by Pauch, Jr. and Cozze.  Joseph Watson finished sixth with Briggs Danner taking seventh after racing his way through the pack from his twenty-third starting spot after winning the first consolation.  Peter Britten finished eighth after a long duel with Danner.  Alex Yankowski crossed the finish line in ninth followed by Craig VonDohren.  

Sammy Martz, Jr. led every lap from the green to the checkered in the South Jersey Overhead Door 602 Sportsman feature event but Steve Kemery kept it interesting on the restarts.

Kemery had his hands full with another young driver in the name of Kyle Smith who pressured the 2020 track champion has the laps counted down.  

Martz took his first win on the high banks followed by Kemery, Smith, Ryan Godown, Jr. and Wayne Weaver who ran outside of the top five with just two laps to go.  Howie Finch, Payton Talbot, Brett Belmont, Tom Moore, Jr. and Scott Hulmes rounded out the top ten.

Ryan Smith took the green flag in the twenty-five lap URC sprint car feature event with the intent of being a ‘start and park’ car if he wasn’t able to advance from his fifteenth place start.  However, that notion was quickly erased as Smith raced into the top five in just five laps and then took over second on the next circuit.

He immediately challenged race leader, Brian Carber, and the two put on a tremendous display while battling for the lead.  Following a lap eight caution, Smith took the lead for good and never looked back as he pulled away from the field. 

There was plenty of action in the top five throughout the race as Denny Peebles, Andy Best, Dallas Schott and Jason Schultz battled along with Carber for position.

Smith took the win – his first on the high banks of the 4/10 mile track followed by Best, Schott and Schultz with Derek Locke racing into fifth in the closing laps.  Carber ended up sixth followed by Paulie Colagiovanni, Alex Bright, Josh Weller in the Hogue No. 39 and Denny Peebles.

Smith also picked up the $300 Hard Charger Award presented by Diane Pursell in memory of her brother, Scott, a former URC competitor who passed away earlier this year.

2021 SEASON IS OFF AND RUNNING AT BRIDGEPORT Motorsports park

Bridgeport, NJ – The Kingdom of Speed weekend sponsored by Milville Glass and Door kicked off the 2021 season at the Bridgeport Motorsports Park and the racing confirmed that this is the place to be.  Just like the inaugural season, the racing was fast and furious.  Three and four wide and slide jobs through all divisions, it was racing at its best.


The Underdog 20 event for the non-winners in the South Jersey Overhead Door 602 Sportsman was a hell of a race, but ‘a Hill of a race’ would be a more accurate description.  Homegrown Bridgeport driver, Travis Hill and  Delaware’s James Hill produced some great wheel to wheel racing for the lead in this twenty lap event.  From the halfway mark, Hill and Hill swapped the lead back and forth and raced side by side, door to door, lap after lap.  Wayne Weaver, John Micek and Payton Talbot had front row seats to some great racing as they race in third, fourth and fifth with ten laps scored.


Hill and Hill swapped the lead back and forth multiple times, lap after lap.  With five to go, James Hill had his No. 1 out in front.  Travis Hill came back one lap later with the Brett Cogdill No. 98 to take the lead.   A little smoke could be seen coming from the No. 1 and one lap later, James Hill was forced to pull off the track as the motor expired just laps before the checkered.


Travis Hill took the checkered flag followed by Weaver and Micek.  Anthony Tramontana made a late race charge to finish fourth with Payton Talbot finishing fifth.  Hill, Weaver and Micek have a lot of experience among them but the young guns – Tramontana and Talbot represented their peers well.


Will Dupree finished sixth followed by Brett Belmont, Kevin Borden, Andy Walko and Billy Chester.


Kevin Nagy opened the Mid Atlantic Sprint Series (MASS) 2021 season with a win after an exciting battle with Dave Brown.
Nagy is always a strong competitor when MASS comes to Bridgeport.  His last Bridgeport win came in 2016 on the 5/8th mile track. 

Nagy can now add a win on the 4/10 mile track.  But it certainly wasn’t easy.  Nagy had one eye on his gauges as the temperature climbed.  And Brown was close enough that he could smell the anti-freeze.


Brown tried several times to slide his way into the lead but came up a little short.  


Nagy led the way to the checkered flag at the end of twenty-five laps followed by Brown, Dom Melair, Rory Janney and Bryant Davis.  


Larry McVay finished sixth and then, check out seventh and eighth.  Zach Bealer drove his family-owned No. 44 to a seventh place finish with Cody West in eighth in Fred Kennedy’s No. 56 – both drivers were making their first sprint car starts!  John Brennfleck finished ninth with Eddie Wagner rounding out the top ten.  


2020 Sunbelt Rentals Street Stock Champion, Rich Stinson picked up where he left off last season by capturing the win on Friday night.  


Fan favorite, Nick Sandone III led the first eight laps of the feature with Stinson taking over on lap nine.  
Stinson led the way to the checkered over Mike Creamer, Gary Klimeczak, Sandone  and Ken Moren.  


Time hot lap sessions were held for the Foley Caterpillar Modifieds with the fast timer in the each of two sessions earning a spot in the six lap Cash Dash on Saturday as well as a redraw spot in the Doug Hoffman Memorial.   Ryan Krachun set fast time in the first session with a lap of 16.187 seconds just a few one hundredths of Dominick Buffalino.  Mike Maresca set the pace in the second session with a time of 16.330 over Dillon Steuer.


​Night one of racing was on the books and the bar was set for another great day of racing on Saturday.

Kingdom Of Speed 100 Has a New Revised Schedule!

Bridgeport, NJ – ? SCHEDULE CHANGE FOR THIS WEEKENDS EVENTS.

? Modifieds will run a full program on Saturday with a 60 Lap, $6000 to win feature event.

? On Saturday Modifieds will run regular warmups, heats, consi’s, and a 60 lap feature. Feature will pay $6000 to win, $1000 for 10th, and $500 to start (The Dash presented by Precision Hydraulic will remain in place). D3B RR remains mandatory for 60 lap feature.

? Also on Saturday the URC Sprint Cars and the 602 Sportsman program will remain exactly as it was with same $1500 to win for the Sportsman. Nothing changes for these 2 divisions.

? Sundays program will not take place. SpeedTR’s and 4/8 cylinders we will look for another date at another time. Thank you. ? Fridays program will remain in place as scheduled. No changes there. (Modifieds top 2 times lock into Saturday Dash).? Times originally scheduled for both Friday and Saturday remain in place.

? These adjustments being made now will allow for those of you that have reserved hotels or were planning to camp the night Saturday to adjust those plans ahead of time.
