The 2025 season marked a change of venue for father and son drivers, Kevin and Jesse Hirthler. On Saturday night, both Kevin and Jesse Hirthler got to share a relatively rare event with their family and friends as they both won their first features at the Bridgeport Motorsports Park.
Saturday’s races were sponsored by SY Murray Performance and it is only fitting that it is a Murray powerplant under the hood of the No. 117.
Kevin Hirthler’s name can be found in the record books of many different area tracks, including Bridgeport’s old 5/8th mile surface. Saturday night’s win marked his first win on the High Banks of the Bridgeport Motorsports Park. It has been a few seasons since Hirthler picked up a win in his Pioneer Pole Building sponsored Modified. “This track can beat up an old guy like me,” Hirthler exclaimed following his win. “This track is tough – you have to run as fast as you can.” Hirthler led a race earlier this season only to be passed on a late race restart but he learned those lessons well.
Hirthler’s win in the Danny’s Pizza Pizzazz Modifieds came over third generation driver, Billy Osmun who had several restarts to challenge for the lead but Hirthler rallied each time. Three-time feature winner and current point leader, Dillon Steuer finished third, challenging Osmun all the way to the finish. Mike Lisowski, also making this his first season at Bridgeport, finished fourth with Neal Williams in fifth.
The Ice Less 602 Sportsman feature followed the Modified main event. Jesse Hirthler drove his No, 117 onto the track so that he could share in his dad’s Insta Sign Plus Victory Lane before taking his place in the starting line-up of the next feature.
Austyn Myers took the early race lead with challenges coming from Charley Cossaboone. By lap four, the top three spots were held by graduates of the 2025 DA’s Auto Body & Repair Rookie class as Rookie Champion, Mike Hughes led the way over Myers and Cossaboone. Trent Willey and Hirthler completed the top five at this point.
Hughes led through lap ten as Hirthler closed in on the leader. Hirthler had the No. 117 out in front on lap eleven as Matt Peck moved up to second. Willey took over third on lap fourteen.
As the laps counted down, Hirthler caught the back of the field and lapped traffic played a role in the final laps. Hirthler concentrated on hitting his marks and led the way to the checkered for the win over Peck, Willey, Cossaboone and Billy Chester. Travis Hill finished seventh followed by Hughes, Jax Yohn, Joe Toth and Myers.
Thomas Radivoy set a new benchmark in the Victory Fuel Wingless Sprints by being the first to win three times this season.
Polesitter, Dan Leaper led the first lap of the feature event before Radivoy took the lead. Radivoy led every lap to the checkered followed by Stan Ploski III, defending champion, Brian Spencer, David Swanson and Jonathan Swanson.
Pulling double duty, Mike Hughes raced to the win, in the Insta Signs Street Stocks with a hard charging Bailey Tolson finishing in second. Kevin Heckman finished third to capture the final podium spot.
Joe Garey, Sr. started the Insta Signs Plus Four Cylinder feature as the race leader but Eric Degler had his No. 1 out in front before the field reached the stripe to complete the first lap. The racing action centered in the positions behind the leader as Garey, Sr., Roger Kummerer, Lee Allen and Joe Garey, Jr.
Degler took the win with Kummerer winning the race for second over Garey, Sr. After battling throughout the race, Lee Allen finished fourth followed by Joe Garey, Jr.
The Delaware Super Trucks made their first ever appearance on the High Banks and the drivers found the track to their liking. Sean Martinez raced from last to first to take the win in the final laps over
LJ Walbert, TJ Williams, Steve Portillo and Chase Carter.

The ageless veteran, Wayne Weaver, raced to the win in the Double Down Showdown for the Ice Less 602 Sportsman in Bridgeport Saturday night action. The 602 Sportsman had the spotlight on this night with their special forty lap main event that paid double the purse in each position.
Justin Grosso earned his first Bridgeport victory in the Danny’s Pizza Pizzazz Modified feature win. Mike Hughes did double duty and came away with two wins – his third win in the DA’s Auto Body & Repair Rookies and his sixth win of the season in the Insta Signs Plus Street Stocks. Scott Degler came away with his fourth win in the Four Cylinder feature event with racing sponsored by John Blewett Inc. Scrap and Metal.
Just two weeks earlier, Wayne Weaver won his first feature event of the season and his first win in nearly a year to the date of his last win. Weaver had expressed his reluctance to race on that particular night – things had not been going well and the thought of a night off was appealing. But when his brother produced a carburetor that he was anxious to try on the No. 0, Weaver relented. In the end, one more win to his credit, he was glad he did.
Now two weeks later, Weaver stood in Victory Lane with one of the biggest wins of his second career. After years in the Modifieds, Weaver switched to the Sportsman competition.
Polesitter, Howie Finch led the first lap before Matt Peck raced into the lead on lap two. Jess Hirthler raced in second until Travis Hill took over second on lap seven. Weaver drove up to third on lap eleven.
On lap seventeen, Peck slowed, bringing out the caution when a tire came off the bead on the No. 51. Peck returned to restart at the rear of the field. Travis Hill was the new leader followed by Weaver, Jax Yohn, Hirthler and Steve Kemery.
As the race neared the lap thirty mark, Weaver began to close in on Hill. Hill led with ten to go but then pushed up the track in turn two, allowing Weaver to take the lead. Hirthler advanced to third. A few laps later, Hirthler was up to second.
Hill was involved in a multi-car incident on the backstretch that also involved Thomas Prychka just three laps from the checkered,
The sixty-five year old Weaver drove to the win followed by the eighteen year old, recent high school graduate, Jesse Hirthler. Steve Kemery finished third followed by Joe Toth and Jax Yohn. Matt Peck rebounded for a sixth place finish followed by Luke Bunting, Duncan Molesworth, Matt Ellery and Billy Chester.
Justin Grosso raced to his first Bridgeport win in the Danny’s Pizza Pizzazz Modifieds after taking the lead on a lap seven restart. Justin has proven to be a strong competitor on the High Banks this season.
Mike Franz and Mike Lisowski led the field to the start with Franz taking the early lead. Franz led the first six laps until the racing came to a stop after Brian Papiez took a nasty ride in turn two. Papiez escaped injury and the field lined up for the restart. Grosso took the lead and began to pull away from the field, taking advantage of the clean air in front of the leader.
Billy Osmun III raced into second and had Dillon Steuer and Sam Martz battling for position behind him. When Steuer finally cleared Martz for third, he turned his attention to Osmun. Steuer repeatedly raced to the inside of the third generation driver but Osmun was tenacious and pulled ahead as they exited the turn. With just six laps to go, Steuer finally took over second but Grosso was out of reach at that time.
Grosso raced to the victory over Steuer, Osmun, Sam Martz and HJ Bunting. Ryan Krachun finished sixth followed by Cale Ross, Sammy Martz, Jr., Neal Williams and Mike Franz.
Grosso expressed his preference for a rougher race track. “I really like a rough race track,” Grosso explained. “I prefer to drive the car straight and that’s how you have to run through the rough.” And he did so successfully.
Mike Hughes scored a pair of wins on Saturday night. First, he won his third DA’s Auto Body & Repair Rookie feature. Polesitter, Austyn Myers led the first two laps before Hughes raced into the lead. Myers went on to finish second followed by PJ Bozowski and Charley Cossaboone. Only one more race remains in the Rookie season and the title has yet to be decided.
Hughes went on to win his sixth race in the Insta Signs Plus Street Stocks. Hughes raced by polesitter, Gary Bozowski and then Bailey Tolson to take the lead on the first lap. Hughes led all the way to the checkered with Tolson posting another strong second place run. Kevin Heckman finished third followed by Nick Sandone III and Gary Bozowski.
Scott Degler led every lap of the John Blewett Inc. Four Cylinder feature to capture the win over Joe Garey, Jr. Roger Kummerer raced by Joe Garey, Sr for third with Colin Gale completing the top five at the checkered.

Swedesboro, New Jersey (June 18, 2025)………Five USAC Eastern Storm wins. Five different tracks.
Justin Grant set a brand new record during Wednesday night’s opener of the 17th edition of Eastern Storm Presented by Levan Machine & Truck Equipment at New Jersey’s Bridgeport Motorsports Park.
After previously winning at Grandview, Selinsgrove, Williams Grove and Port Royal throughout his career, the Ione, California native added Bridgeport to his personal checklist became the first driver to win Eastern Storm features at five different racetracks.
Grant achieved his latest score following a late-race restart in which he made his winning move with five laps remaining to earn his third series victory of the 2025 season in his TOPP Motorsports/NOS Energy Drink – TOPP Industries – LA Poly/Maxim/Kistler Chevy.
Overall, Grant’s 57th career USAC National Sprint Car triumph brought him one step closer to the all-time series win record as he now sits just four behind Brady Bacon (61) for second all-time and five behind Dave Darland (62) for the number one spot.
The victory places Grant as the early Eastern Storm point leader, a major boon toward accomplishing one of his major personal goals of capturing the Eastern Storm title.
“We’re chasing the championship here, but coming into this week, I’m just trying to focus on having fun, trying to go win races and do my thing and quit worrying about points,” Grant stated. “I’m not smart enough to do any of that. I just go out and smash and hope it works out.”
In the process, Grant gained his 49th career USAC National Sprint Car win as a driver for TOPP Motorsports. That’s just one shy of the all-time series record for feature wins by a driver/entrant combo held by Brady Bacon and Hoffman Auto Racing (50).
Pole sitter and reigning Eastern Storm champion Mitchel Moles got the early race edge as he paced around the outside of challenger Kevin Thomas Jr. for the lead on lap one. By lap nine, the leaders were already working lapped traffic, and Moles excelled to extend his lead bit-by-bit, his margin increasing to two full seconds by the halfway mark of the 30-lap main event.
Meanwhile, Grant found his way to second around the outside of Thomas in turn four on lap 20. Mere moments later, disaster struck for Thomas whose car went up in a cloud of smoke on the back straight, forcing him to pull into the infield on lap 21, saddled with a disheartening 17th place finish.
At that moment, with one of his main contenders falling by the wayside, Moles’ lead remained 2.5 seconds over Grant while being seemingly in complete control. However, Moles’ destiny left his grasp when the yellow flag was displayed for the stopped car of Braydon Cromwell (18th) who came to a halt on the back straight on lap 22.
That immediately piqued Grant’s attention as he now knew his second wind had arrived.
“I was really, really excited to see that yellow come out,” Grant admitted. “It took me a while to get around (Kevin Thomas Jr.) there. I was running kind of underneath him. The top looked so dirty, but I finally got up there and got rolling. I rolled by KTJ and I knew we were coming to Mitchel. I felt like I was really carrying a lot of speed up there. Once that yellow came out, I was like, ‘ooh here we go!’ This is what they put your name on the visor for.”
Moles was a staunch defender for the first three laps following the lap 22 restart as he successfully fended off Grant for the time being, running mostly through the middle and sliding up toward the top of turns two and four. All the while, Grant was wound up on the topside, just looking to pick his spot when the moment arrived.
First, Moles successfully denied Grant entering turn one him by sliding himself in order to prevent Grant’s slider attempt on lap 24. However, like clockwork, Grant continued his path up top undeterred, and on lap 25, ducked low off turn four under Moles who was sliding up to the cushion. In the race back to the line, Grant had a half car length edge on Moles.
From that point forward, Grant was in a zone, laying down by far the fastest lap of the race with two laps to go. His 15.149 second mark on lap 28 was more than three tenths faster than any other driver during the duration of the event, cementing his victory at the 4/10-mile dirt oval by a 2.414 second margin at the checkered flag over Mitchel Moles, Briggs Danner, Kyle Cummins and Daison Pursley.
Mitchel Moles (Raisin City, California) came oh-so-close to winning his first career USAC Eastern Storm feature after leading the opening 25 laps. He wound up second, which ranks as his best finish of the 2025 USAC National Sprint Car season thus far.
“All in all, these restarts are what win and lose these races, and guys like Justin who are veterans, they find ways around guys like me. I’m just trying to learn as much as I can. I got a little soft on the restart and started bouncing, and ultimately, missed it off four and that’s what gave Justin the run on me. I’ve never been given anything easy. I feel like I’ve had to earn every win I’ve ever gotten. I don’t think anything’s going to change, so I’ll just go back to the drawing board.”
Briggs Danner grabbed his third career USAC National Sprint Car Honest Abe Roof Fast Qualifier award to start the night. After setting fast time, Danner (Allentown, Pennsylvania) proceeded to run second in his heat and finish third in the feature to provide himself with a nice solid start to his Eastern Storm campaign.
“I felt good early on getting around the top,” Danner recalled. “I didn’t want to see that yellow with lapped traffic coming, which bunched us all back up when I felt I had a shot there. I kind of started to search around and saw Cummins poking on the bottom and just made the best of what I had.”
Robert Ballou was the biggest mover of the feature, advancing plus-six from 13th to 7th in the feature. That earned the Rocklin, California racer Rod End Supply Hard Charger honors.
Steven Drevicki (Reading, Pennsylvania) represented the USAC East Coast Sprint Car contingent proudly. The four-time series champ raced from fourth to first in a lap to score a heat race win. That earned him the Inferno Armor Fire Move of the Night.
Bonuses were up for grabs to the top-three USAC East Coast 360 Sprint Car finishers. At Bridgeport, it was Ed Aikin ($150), Billy Ney ($100) and Patrick Chilmonik ($50).

CARBER CELEBRATES BRIDGEPORT WIN IN JOE KAY MEMORIAL
Brian Carber raced to one of the biggest wins of his career – this was a race that he really wanted to win.
Carber was just one of the competitors with the Mid Atlantic Sprint Series (MASS) that spent months planning for this event to honor Joe Kay who lost his life in a highway accident about one year ago. It was a tremendous cooperative effort that brought this racing weekend to fruition – from the Bridgeport Motorsports Park, Erika & Eddie Wagner of MASS as well as the drivers and owners that compete with the 305 sprints, family and friends, worked tirelessly to offer the Joe Kay Memorial weekend sponsored by JW K Electric. More than $35,000 was paid out in prize money and merchandise during this event.
Carber and Dave Grube led the field to the green with Grube grabbing the lead on the start. Grube led the first four laps before Carber took the lead on a lap five restart. Grube retook the lead on lap seven. Grube led Carber, Robbie Stillwaggon, Bob DeVault and Jeff Paulson through lap ten.
Friday night winner, Tyler Graves, drew a caution with eleven laps scored. Carber regained the lead on the resulting restart and never looked back.
Robbie Stillwaggon took over the runner-up spot on lap seventeen and spent the remaining laps trying to close in on the leader. Stillwaggon was within striking distance on the final lap but as the leaders headed to the finish line, Stillwaggon found a disabled car in his path. Contact was made with Stillwaggon flipping just feet before the finish line. Stillwaggon was not injured.
Carber scored the win over Grube, Paulson, DeVault and Tim Tanner who broke into the top five late in the race. Timmy Bittner finished sixth with DJ Tanner in seventh after starting on the outside of the ninth row. That finish earned Tanner the race’s Hard Charger award. Shelby Kelly finished eighth followed by Troy Betts and Andy Best.
There were several incidents that occurred during the race but all drivers escaped injury. Dave Brown caught the homestretch wall and went for quite a ride down the homestretch with three laps scored. Jeremy Kombau, Aidan Borden and Rory Janny were involved in a multi car incident in turn three. While cars sustained heavy damage, the safety equipment did its job and protected all of the drivers.
5-3 Titanium sponsored match races earlier in the evening. Troy Betts won $500 for winning five matches before Robbie Stillwaggon beat him in round six. Stillwaggon won $100 for winning one round. Dave Grube picked up the win over Stillwaggon plus two more rounds for $300. Grube was defeated in the final round by Brian Carber.
Trent Willy had the winning combination in the Ice Less 602 Sportsman feature. Willy held off challenges from Dave Damiani in the early going and then survived some late race pressure from Travis Hill on his way to his first feature win at Bridgeport.
Willy was one of the winners in the special non-winners events at the end of the 2024 season.
Trailing Willy and Hill to the checkered were Matt Peck, Jimmy Chester and Thomas Prychka who broke into the top five in the final laps. Joe Toth finished sixth followed by Jax Yohn, Ethan Young, Jesse Hirthler and Eric Kormann in a second Dan Sommerling entry.
Austyn Myers earned his third win in the DA’s Auto Body & Repair Rookies, surviving a last lap challenge from PJ Bozowksi. Mike Hughes finished second followed by Charley Cossaboone, Justine Wessner and Bozowski.
Stan Ploski the third picked up the win in the Victory Fuel Wingless Sprints for his first win of the season. Ploski has been very consistent among the top five in each race. Brenden Hires led through lap fourteen laps with Ploski executing a slide job to take the lead on lap fifteen. Brian Spencer moved into second one lap later and pressured Ploski all the way to the checkered.
It was Ploski for the win over Spencer, Hires, Thomas Radivoy and Dan Leaper.
Dan Stine Jr. was a very happy winner in the Insta Signs Plus Four Cylinders. As a new home owner, Stine has not been racing on a regular basis but picked up the win on Saturday night. Stine led Joe Garey, Sr., Lee Allen, Jim Backowski and Dale Noll to the checkered.
SATTERLEE & ROSS CELEBRATE BRIDGEPORT VICTORIES
The third day of the Joe Kay Memorial Weekend gave Bridgeport fans the opportunity to see Late Models in action on the High Banks as the Appalachian Mountain Late Model Speed Week closed out their week of competition on the High Banks. The Danny’s Pizza Pizazz Modifieds and Insta Signs Plus Four Cylinders shared the Sunday program.
Greg Satterlee raced to the win in the forty lap main event for the Super Late Models after taking the lead from Trevor Feathers on a lap twenty-four restart.
Feathers lined up for the start with pole sitter, Brian Bernheisel and then took the lead at the wave of the green. Satterlee passed Bernheisel for second on lap ten. Briggs Danner, making his first ever start in a Late Model, and Donnie Lingo completed the top five.
Satterlee was pressuring Feathers as the leaders raced through traffic just before the halfway mark. A lap twenty-four single file restart saw Satterlee take the lead as the field exited turn two. Two laps later, Feathers headed to the work area during a caution to change a flat tire.
Jakob Piper raced into third on lap twenty-six but Satterlee and Bernheisel led the way to the checkered. It was Satterlee for the win in his first ever Bridgeport appearance followed by Bernheisel, Piper, Danner and Lingo. Danny Snyder finished sixth after an early race caution. Robbie Emory, Trevor Feathers, Trevor Collins and Dan Stone completed the top ten.
“What an awesome track,” Satterlee exclaimed after exiting his car. Satterlee and his crew worked throughout the day to improve their set-up. Satterlee left Bridgeport with the Speedweek point lead.
After the Late Models display of speed, the Danny’s Pizza Pizzazz Modifieds were not to be outdone.
After a pair of cautions slowed the action during the first four laps, the feature ran clean and green to the checkered. Roger Manning raced Mike Lisowski for the lead at the start, putting the No. 414 in the lead for the first two laps. Cale Ross raced from his seventh place start to challenge Manning for the lead on a lap three restart and Ross never looked back from that point on.
As Ross drove away from the field, Manning fended off the challenges of Justin Grosso in the early going. Sam Martz and Dillon Steuer joined the battle before halfway.
Colby Frye broke into the top five with ten to go. Steuer took over third late in the race and then turned his attention to Manning for second. Making the moves in the final laps was Brian Papiez, making his first start of the 2025 season in the J&S Electrical No. 37.
Ross raced to the win, eleven seconds ahead of Steuer in second. Manning finished third followed by Papiez and Frye. Neal Williams finished sixth followed by Sam Martz, Sammy Martz, Jr., HJ Bunting and Ryan Krachun.
Lee Allen closed out the three-day weekend with a win in the Insta Sign Plus Four Cylinders. Allen raced to the win over Roger Kummerer, Joe Garey, Sr., Colin Gale and Scott Dunn.
