2018 POKER SERIES RETURNS TO BRIDGEPORT WITH RUMBLE ON THE RIVER
The Rumble on the River will see the return of the 811 Dig Safe Poker Series to the 5/8th mile of the Bridgeport Speedway on Tuesday, August 21st. This event was scheduled as the third hand of the 2018 Poker Series before Mother Nature forced the cancellation of the All American 40 on July 1st.
The Poker Series events are scheduled on non-regular race days to allow competitors from throughout the Northeast to compete. The Poker Series was brought to the Bridgeport Speedway during the 2012 season when Doug Hoffman became the race promoter at a track that was his Saturday night home for many seasons during his racing career.
Colonial Pipeline returns as the sponsor of the Poker Series for the third season. Colonial Pipeline asks that you call 8-1-1 before you dig. It’s important to always call 8-1-1 before you begin any digging project, no matter how large or small. Just dial 8-1-1 a few days before beginning to notify your local one-call center of your intent to dig. A representative from your local one-call center will ask for your location and description of your digging project. They will then notify all of the affected utility companies who will send a professional locator to the proposed dig site to mark the approximate location of your underground lines. It’s simple. It’s free and it’s the law.
The Spirit Auto Center Big Block Modifieds will see action in the Rumble on the River in a forty lap feature event. Ryan Watt was the winner of the first Poker Series hand this season – The 60 Over Special, Doug Hoffman Memorial Race back in March. Watt holds an Ace going into the next hand with Stewart Friesen (King), Anthony Perrego, Ryan Godown, Tommy Beamer, Andy Bachetti, Duane Howard, Jim Britt, Jeff Strunk, Craig VonDohren, Billy Pauch, Jr., Jimmy Horton and Wade Hendrickson (deuce) each receiving a card for their Poker Series hand. As the Pre-season Champion on the Design for Vision/Sunglass Central 3/8th mile track, Jeff Strunk is also holding an Ace going into the second Poker Series Hand.
The Stewart Stainless 602 Crate Sportsman will also be competing in this event, running a twenty LAP feature. Invader, Adam McAuliffe was the winner in the first hand with Eric Kormann (King), Chris Jenkins, Frank Dorry, Scott Kohler, Ryan Simmons, John Criscion, David Crossman, Pete Serra, Tom Creed, Kevin Borden, Mark Clauss and Paul Hartwig (deuce) each receiving a card for the first Poker Series Event. Tommy Scheetz Sr. is also holding an Ace by virtue of this pre-season title in this division.
Pit gates open at 4:30 with grandstand gates opening at 5:30pm. Racing gets underway at 7:15.
Admission for the grandstands is $25, kids 10-15 for $10 and 9 and under are free. Pit admission is $40.
As always, plan to arrive early and enjoy all that the Bridgeport Speedway has to offer. Live music, great concessions, a bounce house and a huge wooden Monster Truck for the kids to play on, and as always, rides on the Bandit Bus to view the behind the scenes action before the racing begins. Take home a souvenir Bridgeport Speedway t-shirt or a copy of the official program of the Bridgeport Speedway – The Bridgeport Bullet – as a memento of your visit to the speedway.
The Bridgeport Speedway continues to provide a safe, fun and family oriented environment for the world’s greatest racing entertainment.
